I'm primarily a $5 slot player, but play all casino game to change things up.

Lately I have been finding single line VP a little boring. I have been finding myself playing more and more multi line DDB and even multi line Ultimate X DDB. At dollars the 3-line Ultimate X it is $30 per game and I have only played hit and run, never playing more then $500 per session.

Today at the local casino I had $720 Freeplay and decided to play through it on 3-play Ultimate X DDB.

2 hands after cycling my Freeplay I hit this:

The problem I have now is I don't think I will ever have a hand as good as this, but I now want to play longer sessions on this game.

Does anyone else have success on this game or am I doomed if I keep playing?

Nice hit! Seems like people have good luck on this machine, especially with the multiplier.

I'm certainly not a VP expert, but the problem with these games is when you play ultimate X you're throwing gas on the fire of variance that already exists on DDB. While that certainly adds more excitement to VP (vs. the boredom of playing JoB), it also requires a pretty hefty bankroll. Much like playing slots, if you're going to be taking $30 rips on UX DDB, you either have to have a very big bankroll, or reduce your level to a more appropriate amount for the bankroll you have.

I also love this game and was pretty lucky in the begining but boy when it goes bad it goes bad quick and can beat you up bad. I have taken a break from it but after seeing your nice hit will probably give it a try today.

L-Bear: You can play this VP game free by linking off the El Cortez website. I am using my phone now, but when I get to my office, I will post a link.

In general, you fall behind quickly, because your first hand has no multipliers. Notice that on a ten-unit bet, Jacks-or-Better only pays Five. As a result, you have to have 2X on a hand, just to match regular JoB VP. Admittedly, it is raining credits when you string together good hands.

When you play, you do need to watch for chances to get Straight (8X) and Flush (11X) hands. In your case, you got 4OaK on a hand following a Full House (12X).

It's a tough strategy too. Much different from the normal game...

Sorry...things got busy...but here is the pathway to Free Ultimate X, so anyone can practice:

If you have the ElCo player's card, click the "Try the Games FREE" button below your offers.

The generic pathway is to go to

    elcortezhotelcasino.com

and then select "Gaming", then "Play for Fun".

Given the very different strategies of the Ultimate X VP, practice is a good idea.

    Regards, Gene!

Although I have had some good hits, this game has overall beaten the crap out of me, so I don't play it that often. It is definitely the most exciting VP game though.

I lOVE this game, but I have to lower my $1.00-$2.00 VP to .50 or .25. I was dealt a royal flush at the MGM in March and won 4,000 due to multipliers. I have never lost a lot on this game, but I don't get to play it very often...They only have a few machines at each property in my price range and they are usually taken. Wish I could play it at 1.00 though. It is VERY exciting and makes me crazy with anticipation. LOVE!

Stackinchips and Kiwiboy said what I was going to say. It's easy to lose your stake and hard to play correctly. I won't touch it.

Hey, but I've got a little STP game for you over here....nyah-ha-ha.

Yeah, at "full pay" games, it's common to hold things like 3 to a flush, which most players are not trained to do. Another big issue, even being able to find "full pay" for this game. The only play I have seen "full pay" outside of Vegas in Hammond, IN. I wouldn't expect to do much better on $5 slots though, which Aaron plays a lot of as well. I'd also pick STP/Double STP too, strategies are identical to standard games. But if someone likes to really gamble up their freeplay, Ultimate X is a decent choice.

There is one or two at the Horseshoe in SI and Cincinnati that are player favorable DDB. However this game is like VP crack. I had a couple of great hits at the 10 cent level ($2000 and $2500) last year, and easily gave back half that this year.
Way too volatile for me to enjoy, so I limit my play to .25 or lower and no more then $200 out of my session bankroll.

Just tried this game at my local casino. I played 5-play $1 DDB at $50 per deal. I just wanted to test it out and hope to get lucky, so only invested $200. For the most part I was just floating. I would win non-multiplier and 2x hands, but whenever I would have the occasional 12x, i got total rags. Only one premium hand came up...quad Aces on a 2x hand. Was dealt 2 aces and rags and held the Aces. I think there was a trips and two pair on a couple of the other hands on that deal. After all was said and done, I cashed out for $605. Honestly, I had no clue what I was doing, as I rarely ever play VP. I am sure the woman playing next to me was saying to herself, what an idiot player I was...lol. It was a fun half hour, but I need to learn proper strategy before I play it with any regularity.

Eh, Ultimate X is a messed up strategy to begin with, so I wouldn't feel bad feeling confused. In DDB, you usually break Aces up and going for quads like you did, but in Ultimate X, holding two pair guarantees 3X multipliers for the next hand instead of 2X, with a decent chance at 12X multipliers from making full houses. So in most cases always holding 2 pair is actually superior.

This is what "full pay" DDB strategy looks like, it's quite different from standard DDB. More flush and straight chasing.

I definately play at a lower level when i play this usually dimes sometimes quarters but it is like crack I cant seem to walk by the machine without playing a little in it. I have been on a big down slide on it lately but I keep swinging (and missing) what is it that they say about a fool and his money :(

I just played this yesterday at Caesar's AC. Something weird happened with the machine. I was playing UX DDB at 50 cent level, where the pay table is the typically crappy 8/5. I hit a small hand pay, then when the attendant unlocked the machine and I resumed playing I noticed it had changed to full pay, 9/6. Same exact game, same denomination. A while later I stopped playing to get something to eat, and when I returned to the machine it was back to 8/5. I wish I knew what I did to change it to 9/6!

My game of choice is DDB Double Super Times pay. LOVE IT. It is volatile, however, and I believe Ultimate X is even more so. Often folks are either playing Ultimate X or that Frenzy VP poker game on either side of me. There's potential for BIG wins but also BIG and FAST losses.

Are you sure it didn't switch to DoubleBonus, rather than DoubleDoubleBonus?

I don't think so, but it's possible. I've never seen the game change by itself after a hand pay, but you never know.
