    My Trip Report

One more sleep (technically 2 nights, but I'm sure I won't sleep much tomorrow night) till I depart for my happy place. This will be my 4th trip in 18 months due to MyVegas, a little lucky timing, and a great wife.

This trip planning started in May this year while celebrating my mom's 70th birthday. I asked my parents what the plan was for my Dad's 70th, October 23rd, and they said they had no plans. I asked if I could take Dad to Vegas to celebrate his birthday and they both agreed that would be great! Dad took me to Vegas for my first trip 20 years ago and it still stands out as one of my favorites. I had over 500k LPs on MyVegas, and the room availability worked out, so we were good to go! Just a heads up, this will not be a Packer, PPhold (maybe I'll use the pool), Natedog, or JDVegas type of report. I will be low rolling and using comps and coupons for almost everything. I'll will try my hardest to provide live updates and pictures, but I can't guarantee it will happen. I really do love the live reports with pics, so thank you everyone who has taken the time to do it.

The trip started out as a short vacation. Our plan was to leave Wednesday morning and come home Saturday afternoon. I bought my one way flight from Columbus (CMH) with Reward Points and paid $226 for my return flight on Southwest. Then Jimmy Buffett announced that he was going to be at The MGM Grand on Saturday October 25th, so I bought one ticket to the concert Saturday night and changed my flight to come home Sunday (I love Southwest!). About a month ago, my two good friends asked if I was still going to Vegas (duh, of course I was) because they were going to be in Vegas for a convention beginning Monday October 27th, but wanted to come in for the weekend and asked if they could crash with me. I had a Comp night with the purchase of one night for $59 at Monte Carlo and I was already booked there for Saturday night, so I booked a room there Sunday and Monday. Since I HAD to pay for one night to get one free, I couldn't come home Monday so I changed my return flight to come home Tuesday (did I mention I love Southwest?):wink

This is where I'll be staying:

Wednesday - Red Rock Casino Resort (MyVegas)
Thursday (Dad's Birthday) & Friday - New York New York (MyVegas)
Saturday, Sunday, and Monday - Monte Carlo (MyVegas, Mlife Comp, $59)

$59 (plus resort fees) for 6 nights! Not to shabby.

Dad also started playing MyVegas and was able to earn his 3 comps:

$50 Dining Credit at Monte Carlo
    2 Aria Buffets
$25 dining credit at Nine Fine Irishman

I asked Dad if there were any shows that he wanted to see and he responded, "Zumanity :wink2: and B- A Tribute to the Beatles." I used my 4th MyVegas reward to get 2 premium tickets to Zumanity and bought General Admission tickets to B from Groupon for $32. I called Saxe theatre and upgraded to VIP for $10/ticket and got second row, center seats. :peace:

I have a Full size Car reserved from Wednesday - Saturday with Dollar for $102 all in and will be using the Dollar Express booth .

I have 8 hours on Wednesday from the time I arrive until I have to pick Dad up from the airport, so I have a coupon run planned with Match Play and Free Play coupons from The American Casino Guide and the Las Vegas Advisor and $50 Free Play from The D plus I'll use the ATM rebate for Free Play at El Cortez. I plan on hitting mostly off strip properties; Hooters, Ellis Island, Gold Coast, Palms, Orleans and then head Downtown. I'll be using the Free Play on Video Poker (9/6 JOB & 8/5 Bonus Poker) and the Match Play on Roulette, Black (come on 17!)

I made dinner reservations at Mon Ami Gabi for Thursday night through Open Table and hope to get patio seating. My parents took my sister and I to Paris when we were teenagers, so I would love for my dad to have dinner at Paris under the Eifle Tower on his birthday.

When my buddies arrive, there will be lots of drinking and LOTS of Sports Betting. This weekend, we'll be able to bet on College Football, NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA (pre-season, but we'll still throw some money down). For a sports bettor it doesn't get any better than that!

I already talk to my Dad on a somewhat regular basis, but since we planned this trip he now calls me 2 times a week and tells me how excited he is. Seriously, like a kid on Christmas Morning. I don't know who's more excited about this trip.

Again, I hope to have some live updates and pics starting Wednesday. Thanks for riding along!

    Good luck!!!

And I did notice you asking about the best craft beers with the best paytables on VP in the bartop thread. But I really haven't found a great combo of both, but I was told by another member that Ninkasi Total Domination IPA was at El Cortez, which is shocking. D has about 20 beers on tap at long bar with 8/6 Boner Deluxe w/prog. Orleans has about 20 as well with 7/5 Bonus with progressive, and last time I was there the progressive got over $1700. M Resort has 50c 98.91% Deuces at the 32 degree bar, which has about 90 beers on tap. TAG Lounge at Linq casino is the best overall selection by a longshot, but your best choices there are 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus (97.67%), or 6/5 Super Aces on Spin Poker (97.78%).

Thanks Tringlomane! I will absolutely try a Total Domination IPA at El Cortez
and check back to confirm. I also will be partaking in some refreshments at The D and Orleans. Hopefully I can reset that progressive. ;-)

I've never been to M resort, but may need to make a trip down there now.

And thanks for all your VP help and info. Really appreciated!

Sounds great! I love a low-rollin trip report. Very interested in your thoughts/review of the Beatles tribute show.

While i get much enjoyment from the extravagance and high drama of a "High Roller" trip report, i can most relate to a low roller trip report :p looking forward to it! Hope you have a blast!

Hello VMBers! I made it and it is Beautiful here in Las Vegas. Great flight in from Columbus. Watched Hangover and talked to a really nice couple sitting next me.

Flew right by the long line inside at the Dollar counter and proceeded outside. I got a new Charger and was on the road within 5 minutes of arriving at the rental car facility.

Tried my first coupon run and to be honest, it was a pain in the ass. Waiting in players club lines for $10 felt like a total waste of my time. I did buy in for Nickles for $100 on Roulette at The Orleans. Played $5 each on 20 and 17 and 20 hit my first spin! I stuck around for a few more spins and walked away with an extra Hundy! I also had lunch at In-N-Out Burger and it was great!

Beautiful view of the Mountains and the pool from my room at Red Rock.

Heading Downtown for a couple hours and then to the airport to pick up my Dad.

We love it out there at Red Rock. We keep saying we're going to plan a whole trip just around there and make it a nice and relaxing one but we never seem to lol

    Re: good morning quads

Had you gone to sleep for the night yet? I wouldn't want to intentionally get up at 4am.

And yeah the players club lines are the really crappy thing about the coupon books. At times I question if they are worth it to me too.

Excellent sounding trip. I love Red Rock. Sounds like you have a good eye for good odds. I know you've left there, but the pay tables on their VP are outstanding.

I went to bed at midnight, but was still on east coast time and wide awake at 4am Vegas time.

Well, the trip's coming to an end. It's been a long 6 days of drinking and gambling, and it didn't help that I was up at 5am every morning. I knew it was definitely over while playing a Progressive Video Poker machine and the guy sitting next to me says "I just hit the Royal Flush." I cashed out and headed up to my room.

I'll add some details and thoughts on the trip when I get home and get some rest.

    Thanks!
