I've never flown SWA and I've been looking at their rates. I see that their "Wanna Get Away" rates are considerably less expensive than the other rate categories. Does anyone with any experience with SWA have anything good, bad or ugly to say about the Wanna Get Away rates. Any and all input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks. :peace:

I love Southwest and fly them whenever possible. Easy, understandable, good web site, etc. I've never had a problem. If I change my plans, I can cancel my flight and hold the money paid in my account or apply it to a more expensive fare if need be. I like no charge for bags, since I hurt my back a year ago and am no longer supposed to lift a suitcase above my head to put it/remove it from overhead compartments. I like that I can pay extra for "early check in" (which I do for Vegas, since the flight is always full).

It used to be that they boarded in the order you got to the airport, so there were long lines of people there early - it was a mess. But since they eliminated that, and opened check-in either automatically via Early Bird ($12.50 each way extra) or 24 hours in advance of the flight, that is a memory of the past.

I usually fly with a wanna get away ticket, only downside is you can't get a cash refund if you cancel, but I think you get credit for your next trip

which for me is almost monthly, LOL ( but then again my RT is usually $150 for Sat-Mon)

Have flown them exclusively from Milwaukee, to Vegas, Seattle, Phoenix and Boston for the last 5 years. We only pick non stop flights and we have had a few glitches, but nothing worth mentioning.

Already have flights booked for tomorrow, Nov, Dec & Feb to Vegas.

In addition to what the others have said, the "Wanna Get Away" fares are the lowest offered and only available till they're gone. They're for the people who plan ahead as SWA designates only so many seats at that rate. When boarding or flying, no one has any idea which of the three-(3) fares you're flying on, except I guess for Business Select as they board A1-A15. All open seats are available and the service, leg room, etc. is the same for all. I LOVE SWA and pretty much fly them exclusively.

They work fine. You just have to know when you're going and commit.

I missed a flight by a couple minutes at the gate last year. I assumed that I would have lost my paid flight but, even without cancelling, SW still gave me my flight credit! Unfortunately, I had to be in LV that night so booked on line at the gate a one way connecting flight - BUF- WASH-LAS on United. I walked to the gate where the sign said flight delayed for weather - ended up four hours! My original BUF flight was to leave 1 PM Eastern and I finally arrived LAS 12:30 Pacific:(

I have never had any issues with SW. Free bags including golf, last second cancellation with credit are a good sell for me. I don't need a seat back TV for a four hour flight. They have these things called books and tablets now!

Every airline has letter codes associated with airfares. F is first class, J is business class, Y is economy class, W is premium economy. The codes also have meaning with refunds and change costs and other fees you either pay or don't pay should things get screwed up through no fault of the airline. I assume the wanna get away fares are equivalent to a Y class ticket and that's the fares that just about everyone buys. You'll get the same seat but pay a lot more money if you buy a ticket where you can cancel and get a full refund.

I almost always do the Wanna Get Away fare for Southwest. Why? It's cheaper! :)

Never any problem. One thing is, when you check in in advance, you need to be right on the spot the minute you can check in (24 hours prior) or else you get stuck with a C pass. :(
