Not to be an alarmist but we USED to clean the buttons and other "areas" of contact when coin-in-coin-out was the norm to prevent transmission (we thought) of flu or common cold or whatever back in the day. Now we have ebola with whatever transmission; whatever incubation period there is as well as the EVD-68 which effects mainly youth so far....

I am just asking; have you decided to use anti-septic or other interventions when playing video or table games? I have used germ-x and other type products when (1st) playing poker with the exchange of chips amongst players as well as when playing craps with exchange of chips and die. Previously this was mainly due to influenza or other seasonal infections....anyone worried about the newest medical invasions?........Don't mean to raise ire but want to feel comfortable still using my gel as a deterrent without offending.
I am aware there is a tolerance build up but feel there is no alternative available at present.

Obviously I am very conscious of touching my eyes, nose and mouth in the interim. Again, am I just being paranoid?

This right here is going to minimize the majority of your risks of contamination.
You can't freak out about touching the machines. If you start to break down all your activities and everything you touch you are going to go crazy. Every door handle, money, chips, table , pen.... etc has the same potential of carrying viruses/bacteria. So like you said, just be conscious of touching your mouth, nose and eyes. You can use an antibacterial gel which will help. If you have any kind of cut or open sore, make sure you have a bandaid over it. And properly wash your hand with soap and hot water especially before you eat (and if its not an automatic faucet, wipe your hands first, then use the paper towel to shut off the water). Although this is difficult in Vegas, try to avoid overly crowded place..... people are disgusting and assume at least 50% of them have some form of bad hygienic habits.

I'll make sure I bring more hand sanitizer but frankly, I would be more concerned about coming home with a regular run of the mill ailment over those two diseases. But based on what I observed during the H1N1 flareup, the casinos in Vegas probably won't take extra steps to sanitize surfaces. Maybe it hit Illinois harder than Nevada, but there was a much more noticeable response to it in casinos here.

Hand sanitizer and severe hand washing. For its worth, I always carry alcohol wipes to clean off the buttons of the video poker machines.

Quickly, I don't feel like such a nervous nellie nurse.....I don't want to look like a goof but I think it is reasonable to wipe the button and wash after cashing....an incentive to cash!...

for the Ebola/Marburg viruses you MUST come in DIRECT contact with BODY FLUIDS..(blood vomitus feces urine semen...) of an infected individual...so unless someone pukes at your table, I think you will be safe from these....

Just wash your hands...its the right thing to do anyway....

People worry to much studies show that all the antibacterial soap andhand sanitizers people are using is actually making them less tolerant to disease it prevents your body from building natural defenses. People are becoming so paranoid about daily life it's not good just live and stop worrying about that which you can not control.

If you are worried about Ebola you might want to walk to your hotel from the airport as you are infinitely more likely to die in a car accident than from Ebola. (just be careful at intersections as Las Vegas averages a pedestrian death every week)

Over 400 people die a year from falling out of bed in America, so far Ebola deaths are at 1.

Not saying you shouldn't take some precaution because influenza kills 40000 people a year in the States, clean hands after the bathroom, minimize face touching etc. Just no real need to worry about an R2 virus with 60 percent fatality outbreak centered in an underdeveloped country on the other side of the world, yet.

Wash my hands after using the bathroom and before eating. I have never wiped down a VP machine's buttons and I don't carry any kind of sanitizer.

It's OK to be paranoid. You only have to be correct once.

I plan on doing nothing, just like I do now.

I have an immune system for a reason and plan letting it do its job.

No flu shots either. Not that i am scared of it, I just find it a waste of effort.

I also shake sick peoples hands, its my way of getting my immunity built up.

I'm not trying to be an alarmist here but I believe you would have to include sweat in the list of body fluids. And it is fairly common for people's hands to produce sweat which could easily be transferred to common surfaces in a casino.

This is the same argument people who play the lottery make.

True but too much would have to happen to not only have an Ebola victim even in a casino, let alone become in contact with their sweat. I think if it ever really hits here, people will be more aggressive about seeking treatment which will help contain it.
