TR Visa Platinum length & are resort fees based on when booked or check-in?

I may place a call/email into Total Rewards but was wondering about the TR Visa card and Platinum status length..I've seen some posts here about status length but no 100% confirmation. If you attain Platinum via the Visa card, do you stay Platinum for the same amount of time you would if you earned it through Tier Credits (the credit card terms are very vague). Through play/Tier Score, I always explain it to others that the status lasts to March 31st of the 2nd calendar year after it was earned. For example, get Platinum status in Jan 2015...Platinum would last until March 31st, 2017. In this example, I know the initial Platinum cards you get will have 3/16 as the initial expiration date on them but then after 3/16, your new cards will say 3/17.

Hoping the Visa is the same way, especially since I most likely won't earn Platinum via Tier Credits this year (first born arrived this year, not much time for the casinos ).

Also, while I have comped rooms available, now that I'm Gold, I see that resort fees are listed when making even a comped reservation. If I make a Gold reservation now, but later earn Platinum before my trip, will either the phone reps or lobby employees be able to remove the resort fees (without having to cancel the rez and rebook at the then current price)? I'd like to book a room now in case these days aren't comped when I plan on getting Platinum via the card in Jan/Feb (to maximize my Platinum time).

I'm sorry, I can't answer your question, but just wanted to pass on some information from my recent attempt at getting the card. I tried to apply on line, but it failed (I got an error, but then the bank said they had received it???). So when I called to ask a question about my room reservation that is in 3 weeks, she mentioned the offer and I told her about the failed on-line attempt. She said she wouldn't be seeing the offer on-line for me if my attempt had worked. But she said she could take care of it for me - but as she was explaining it, she said it takes 30 days from approval for the Platinum status to kick in. So I understand about waiting to get the card to maximize your platinum time, but I would do it at least 6 weeks ahead of your trip.

I'll be paying resort fees on this trip because I procrastinated .

 

good questions. i would like to know this as well as i have the TR visa (haven't spent enough to get the platinum reward yet).

 

IT should be good for a year from the date you got it, I got mine in November /2013 and its good til March 2015 Caii the property were you are staying and ask for total rewards desk , they should help you thats what I did.

 

Mine was good for a year, then they extended it for a year for some reason, and it wasn't because I played enough to reach Platinum status.

 

This is seemingly positive news! That's how the increased status levels work when you earn via play. In any calendar year, you are playing to earn status for the next calendar year (but they also tack on until March 31st of the 2nd year after). As a bonus, you also get that status immediately in the same calendar year you earned it. If you earn in 2015, your cards will show an expiration date of 3/16 but after 3/16, you are extended for another year until 3/17.

To the other poster, that is a good reminder that it takes at least 30 days to "kick in" and I will have enough time there.

 

Good for one year from issue date. Never had an issue getting charged for the resort fees. If you login to your account, using the new interface, you should see the status level expiration date.

 

I don't stay at TR properties (only MLife) so I can't speak about the resort fees, but I have the TR Visa and my platinum status is still good well over a year from the card issue date. In fact I gamble very little at TR properties, focusing mostly on MLife properties and my Platinum status is good through the expiration date on the credit card, (which will be this coming Spring, two years from the card issue date).

 

Ditto, you'll stay at Platinum level, regardless of your gambling at CET as long as you're in good standing with your TR Visa card.

 

When I signed up for the CC the fine print stated "good for one year from issue date" and even explained how it was different than earning it through play. In practice, I have been platinum since May '13 and will be at least through March '15. I only have 2800 base points this year and only had about 750 last year.

One side note, if you like squeezing every bonus point you can, your bonus points are calculated on each transaction, and the points are always rounded up to the nearest dollar, so when you get gas it is 2x points,so $20.00 equals 40 points but $20.01 equals 42

 

I sent an email to Total Rewards a couple weeks ago asking if the Platinum is valid for as long as you have the Total Rewards Visa card or if it is for only one year....I signed up in January 2014; the response was that my Platinum status was good until March 2016 (almost 2 years)...

 

Awesome on the reports of Platinum length and it appears to be valid for the same amount of time as earning it through play (March 31st of the 2nd calendar year after you get the card). I'm going to sign up in Jan to give me the maximum amount of Platinum time (March 2017).
