    My Trip Report

It had been a while since my dad and I took a golf trip together. I pieced an itinerary up that had us leaving Indiana Tuesday morning to LAX so we could catch the Dodgers/Giants game and then drive to LV.

SWA was as expected, except on way out, we both were lucky enough to have an empty seat next to us (we both like to sit on the aisle!). On time departure, on time arrival. No issues at all, except their bloody mary mix sucks epic ass. Go with another option. Picked up rental car at Thrifty for 4 days including a drop off in LV. Got a Full Size for $240.

Dodgers WIN!!!! Greinke goes 8 and holds off the hated Giants to reduce the Dodgers' magic number to 1. (next night Kershaw slammed the door!) Game over at about 10:45. I overestimated my ability to remain awake for 28 hours that ended with a mind-numbing 4 hour drive to Ballys from Dodger Stadium.

Checked in at Bally's at almost 3am. Quick and easy, nice room in the tower that isn't the Jubilee tower. On 15th floor. Woke up at 7 because my dad is a freak. Went and walked thru City Center, PH, and Paris before settling in on what was to be one of many face-flattening beatdowns at the craps tables. SOOOO cold. Had Earl of Sammich for lunch (always great), and Pink's for dinner. Pink's was good and quick, but man did I regret it later. Got to bed at a reasonable hour due to the 6:40 tee time in Mesquite at Wolf Creek!

Thursday morning, checked out of room at 4:45, loaded up rental and hit the road to maybe the most picturesque golf course on the planet, WOLF CREEK! We got into Mesquite at about 6:15, and played 36 in a little less than 8 hours (including stopping for about a 45 minute lunch after the first 18). Went next door to the Eureka casino. Saw my dad on a Double Double Bonus Poker machine hit 4 quads in about 40 minutes, one of which was the AAAA2 for a crazy 2000 credit hit. I of course got stomped. Drove back to LV and checked in at GG.

GG. Well, I had never stayed there before, and I was aware of the recommendations about the noise. However, the only double/double room they had was on the third floor facing the FSE. Holy SHIT. It sounded like the damn speakers were IN room 327. The room was small, but good enough for our tastes. Only problem was the noise. Even after copious amounts of liquor and being dead-ass tired, I had trouble getting to sleep before the music quit at 1am. We had dinner at Du'Par's. Good food quick.

Woke up at 4:45 again to drive to Wolf Creek again. Played 36 again, cashed in my Thursday night football Over43 wager at Eureka, and then we drove back to GG. Had dinner at 777, and the walked to the Grand. Got drilled there. Then walked to El Cortez. Got drilled there. Walked to the D. Yup, you guessed it. Man this is getting old! Dad went to bed about 11:00. I manage to go on a solid run to come back home a small loser for the trip. Got in bed about 3 (watched the Ryder Cup, only reason I was up that late!). Woke up at 7, checked out, and returned car to Gillespie St Rental Car facility. No problems there at all. On time departure on SWA non-stop to Indy.

    Gambooling observations:

Bally's, Flamingo, and PH on the strip seemed to be the most fun. Certainly the most personable crews at the Craps tables. Downtown, GG was way better than the last time I was there. The crews were competent, if maybe a little slower. I will take that as long as they get the bets right. GN was stuffy as usual. Binion's was surly, as usual. MSS was solid. The Grand is a nice property, but after getting my face melted off my skull in about 15 minutes at a $10 craps table, we didn't stick around to really take it all in. Made a major run at LVC in craps. Crew was fun, even if the box was a surly grumpy old man. The GG valet might be the best ever. Small and really quick.

Had a great time with my dad. Can't wait to get back in March (or before!!!!)

What kind of shape was Wolf Creek in post-overseeding? Looks like you did that two days of unlimited golf deal they were offering.

Glad you had fun, Beausky! LOL @ "my dad is a freak." And thanks for leaving some money in Vegas for me to collect this week. If I get any of it back I'll buy you a coke. Maybe.

Yes, we take our clubs. The course was in good shape, but not as good as it is in the spring. Greens were slow, but with the major movement every one of the them has, that is probably a good thing. And the two days unlimited was what we did. Could have probably put in at least another 9 holes each day, but 36 there is challenging enough. And, Murph, thanks! I guess. Kill em!

Solid trip report - only played it once, but fell in love with Wolf Creek. In the event I ever take my clubs with me to Vegas again, I'll gladly make that drive to play it another time.

Totally worth the time. We always threaten to stay in Mesquite, but always take the free offers we already have in LV. Another plus to WC that I didn't already mention: their staff is the best. From the waitress in the bar to the starter to the pro shop personnel. Always pleasant and helpful. I wish I could say the same for Paiute. Paiute's staff act like they are doing you a huge favor by letting you pay them to let you on the course.
