    My Trip Report

I had some time off from work and 2 comped nights at Caesar’s properties so I decided to spend a few days at Atlantic City. Originally I was supposed to travel with a friend but he had to cancel at the last minute so I did the 4.5 hour drive by myself. Since it was Labor Day, I left my house at 6am to avoid as much traffic as possible. I have been traveling to Vegas 4 times a year but due to increased airline prices, hastle with air transportation and the fact the customer service in strip casinos is suffering, I started going to AC a few times a year instead. AC doesnt have the vibe or entertainment LAS Vegas has but Vegas doesnt have beaches and boardwalks. AC is also improving security on the boardwalk as I only had 1 person ask for change during my visit.
I arrived at Bally’s at 11am and since it was too early to check in, I grabbed my bathing suit, cooler and beach chair from the trunk and spent the next 5 hours sitting on the beach. It was crowded but there is so much space available it did not seemed cramped. The weather for all 3 days was low 90’s and the water was warm enough where you did not freeze when you walked in. Atlantic City really does a great job of keeping the beaches clean.
I went to check in around 4pm and there was a line of about 50 people ahead of me but several check-in desks were open and it took about 20 minutes to get the keys and head up to the room. I reserved a room in the Bally’s tower as I have stayed here before and find this to have nicer rooms and views. I could see all the way down to the Trump Taj Mahal from my room. It had a shower/tub and a large sink and counter. The room was clean and comfortable and housekeeping does an excellent job. I tracked sand into the room every day and each day I noticed the room was vacuumed.
The casino at Bally’s is kind of bland, like a warehouse with slot machines, and was not crowded at all. I played there the first night and then played at Caesar’s which is right next door the other 2 nights as they have a more festive atmosphere and good drink service. On my 2nd night, I hit for $280 on a Monopoly slot while playing only .40 a spin. That paid for gas and food for the trip.
Bally’s has an excellent location and rooms are clean and I would stay there again if comped or reduced rate room offers continue.
    Other highlights to the trip:
I went to the Revel casino around 1am on Tuesday morning. I was going to try and be the last one out when they closed the doors but I started falling asleep around 3:30 and left. I did turn my $20 in free play into $80 before leaving. The Revel and Showboat were my 2 home bases in AC and now they are both gone.

Atlantic City may not be the gambling mecca it once was but the beaches and boardwalk make it a nice place to visit.

I like Morton's in Caesars. The Asian restaurant...Kwi is good as well.

The boardwalk in a great place to walk on a sunny day.

Visit the Quarter at the Tropicana. There are several good dining options. Carmines (Italian), PF Chang and a Cuban restaurant.

I'm a big fan of Carmine's too. However, its a place made for sharing. With only 2 people, you're not going to be able to order too much as one dinner will be more than enough for 2 people.

Thanks for posting. I enjoy AC a few times a year and my sisters and I take the parent people for Thanksgiving every year, too.

I was there for the Miss America Pageant on September 14th. My niece is Miss Illinois and we went to give her support during the competition. I have never been to Atlantic City so their casinos were a first for me. I gambled in seven of them and picked up chips for my personal collection. I found $10 BJ games at all casinos, even on Saturday night. This along with some 2 for 1 pay outs for a Blackjack. There were no crowds but several casinos had some steady traffic. I was there for five days including a weekend. At my age, the beach is not a draw and except for the pageant, gaming is it. The city doesn't glisten or have the sparkle at night like Las Vegas. Even with the casinos open twenty four hours, it is not a 24 hour town. The boardwalk seemed a little quiet, and after dark, very empty. Most of the shops on it are Mom and Pop type retail and seem very temporary. Lots of fast food and pizza places. I was able to play and get a chip at the Trump Plaza just before it permanently closed. This was definitely on my "bucket" list for Atlantic City. I had fun there, but it is not any where near the party Las Vegas is.
