    Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone will be able to answer a question I have...

I'm due to visit vegas next weekend & Mandalay Bay have already comped our whole stay at Delano. My question is... What would happen if on check out we've not met the minimum lay requirements???

They e-mailed & offered us this comp months ago, I'm not really very familiar with the whole comp thing as I didn't think we would have ever qualified.....

I do know there's no such thing as a free lunch though... Just wondering what our worst case scenario would be??
I'd really appreciate it if anyone that could give advice

Your offers in the future might not be as nice or they might not send you any.

Ooh.. Ok that's not as bad as I was expecting. I thought we may be presented with a bill on check out.

I e-mailed this week to check our reservations & the host replied saying as THEHotel is now Delano it's more expensive & therefore the lay requirements are greater..... Up until then I hadn't even considered what might happen if we don't meet their requirements.

Are they just comping you rooms? Or are there other freebies in there as well?

    Just rooms....6 nights...
Having read through other threads many are saying that the lay levels are an expectation not a requirement ......
On the e-mail from the host he definitely says lay requirements.
Whilst we are planning on playing a lot I don't want to be held captive my the MB but neither do I want to be presented with a bill on check out....

Who is the "they" that sent you the original offer? What property does your host work at?

If the original email came from Mandalay Bay and not specifically from a host, and it was for 6 nights, and you didn't have to go through a host in order to get it extended to 6 nights, and your current host works for some other property, then you basically have a free ride based on your prior play.

If the original offer came from the same host who told you of requirements, or the original offer was for less than 6 nights and you had to go through a host to get it extended, your risk is that you end up with a disappointed host.

He/she may have just been a little sloppy with the terminology, because "requirements" has a different implication than "expectation". "Requirements" implies that they will slap you with room charges if you don't play enough. Expectations, less so. If he used the word "requirements," he should tell you very specifically what they are.

Without knowing EXACTLY how you got the offer, you are just fine. Any regular offer does not require you to play even $1. Folks often play less than normal on trips.

And, unless you agreed to some per night price up front, it would be hard for any hotel to charge you since there is no agreed upon price per night.

As said, your future offers will drop. You wil not get additonal back end comps.

I am interest how you got 6 nights. That are usually a bit tight about doing more than 3-4 days.

I'd like to know about the 6 nights as well. Seems like that they would only give something like that to someone who would never worry about how much they are going to play. Besides I'm envious. I only got a 3 day offer from them with some resort credit.

A friend of ours stayed at the MB throughout Christmas & NY 2012/13, he lost around £7k on that trip. We visited vegas with him last Dec & probably spent £7k between the 4 of us.
We we got back our friend had an e-mail from a MB casino host asking if he'd any plans for another Christmas trip. He said we had just come back but were planning on busting again in September... He explained we were planning on staying for 6 nights, there would be 4 of us & gave our M life number, he came straight back with reservation number...
    Below is the transcript...

    William

I hope this email finds you well.

I want to say hi and check that if you have plans for a trip in December to let me know okay.

I’ll set up your comp reservation with us.

Take care and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Hi Adrian

Happy New Year! We did have a trip to Vegas in December, but stayed at Bellagio (still part of MLife!).

However, we're planning to come out again in late September / early October 2014, with some friends (who are also MLife members) and we're keen to stay in the Mandalay Bay.

Is it possible to set up a comp reservation for then?

    Best wishes for 2014.

    William

    Hi

Thank you and same to you and your loved ones!

Yes, I can set that up for them. When you have time email me their names and date of birth or their mlife numbers. Once you have dates in mind let me know and I’ll arrange them.

Have a good day and look forward to your reply.

That's all until I e-mailed to confirm & he mentioned the lay requirements being greater. There's been no talk of rates or requirements up until then.
We will be playing, probably at the same rate as our last trip but that was not just in one place.... Really really like the cosmos in the Cosmo!!!

Some properties, in the fine print of the offer, say that the offer is based on your historical level of play and if you don't meet that level of pay, you'll be charged for the room. TI does that and a friend found out the hard way that they do enforce it. He had car trouble like 2 weeks before the trip and had to use some of his Vegas money to get it fixed or he wouldn't have been able to get back and forth to work. He still gambled quite a bit, but not as much as usual. I'm guessing about 75-80% what he usually does. Anyway, he went to check out and they hit him with the room charges. He told them it was comped and the man told him that since he didn't meet his normal level of play, that he had to pay for the room. Man, was he mad.

For the most part though, I think that isn't strictly enforced and they just don't send you offers anymore unless you do show up again and gamble enough there to qualify for them again.

From your exchange with the host your rooms are comped. He isn't requiring you to have a minimum lay, but all hosts give comped rooms because they expect that you will play based on a previous visit. If your reservations state that it is comped, and there's no rate information, they can't make you pay for the room later. When there is a minimum lay requirement, they give you the rates beforehand, and if you meet their requirement, they comp your stay at the back end.

Wow..... I've never heard of that. I've had trips where I got sick, so didn't have as much play as I normally would. Or, it's a birthday trip with a big group or bachelorette trip and I don't have as much time to gamble as I would on most trips. My host is understanding that is the exception, not the rule. My host is in it for the long haul and would never be as short sighted as TI. I've also never seen a one off trip with lighter play significantly affect my offers.

Like I said, I don't think that is strictly enforced at most properties as they'll just send you worse offers or no offers at all in the future. It probably also matters that my friend's offer was from a mailer or an email, I can't remember which. Had his offer been through a host that he'd worked with before, he probably would have been fine with the slightly lighter play.

If he isn't stating specific requirements, then he shouldn't be expecting to you play any higher than your last trip, and he shouldn't have put you in the Delano unless your past play was high enough to warrant it.

Take your play (at MGM properties only) on your last trip and divide it by the number of nights you stayed, to get an average per night. He booked your upcoming trip with the expectation that you'll play around the same average for 6 nights. It's unlikely that they would try to put any room charges on you if you fail to play up to that level, but you might not expect as cordial a welcome from that host in the future.

I have seen properties mention this in marketing offers but not all the time.

I booked a Wynn marketing fishing offer and the T&C's only mention that "Additional complimentaries may be awarded to guests who earn at least 5,000 points per day on slots or have at least 4 hours of table play at $250 average bet per day during their stay."

Thanks for the advice guys, really appreciate. Am going to try & log into my booking & see what it says if anything about rates. Hopefully all I'll see is comped & I'll be reassured.
It's not my intention to abuse the comped position, I just don't want to be beholden to one casino for a week....
    I will report back.....

I've read this in the fine print of an email offer:

I have never visited on an offer from MB or any MGM property for that matter so not sure about the enforcement of this provision.

Edit: I should add that the offer with which this is included was for 3 free nights and $1200 in resort credit. So, it was substantially more than just a room. Not sure this makes a difference.

1 - The small print that I have seen refers to the offer itself, and if you play between the date of the offer and when you call in has reduced, they may not offer it. I have never seen an offer that says it can be revoked once given.

2 - I would put good money that your friend had a verbal offer that we will see, and when the time came, his play sucked.

3 - Since the room was supposedly comped upfront, but then charged, how did they come up with a nightly dollar amount?

    BOTTOM LINE:
I really believe the deal was NOT an upfront offer but more like a "we will see".

    1) Trying to justify your side of a discussion simply because you haven't seen something doesn't work. There are a lot of things that all of us have never seen. That doesn't mean they that those things don't exist. You could tell me that something happened a certain way, but unless I was there to witness what you were claiming, then all I can do is either assume you're telling the truth or just flat out call you a liar.

    2) This was a marketing offer, such as the ones we all get in the mail and in emails. I can't remember which way it came and I can't ask him right now because he is out of the country until Wednesday so I should be able to find out then if it's really important to you. I do know that he called about it after he received it because he wanted to ask a question about it. I'm not sure when he actually received the offer and when he actually took the offer, but he first told me about it towards the end of May and the offer was for our June trip. As I said in my earlier post, his play was down a little bit, but it definitely didn't suck. In fact, he actually gambled about 4 times what I gambled on that particular trip.

    3) I can't answer how they came up with the nightly rate and neither can you obviously. I also can't even say that they charged him the full amount for the rooms. They may have discounted it based on what he did play. I do know he was complaining to me about $112. He was only at TI for 2 nights and then moved downtown for 2 nights so if my math is right, that comes out to $56 a night.

    Bottom Line:

I am not here to argue, but was posting for the OP what I have witnessed happen in response to his/her question. This debate will just cause further confusion for the OP instead of arguing over something that I have seen that you don't believe could/would happen just because you've never seen it happen before.
