I would take Green Bay +5.5 and the over.

While Seattle's defense is still stout as hell...the Packers offense should be able to put up points. Eddie Lacy is the key, I think. He's so good and he should allow some of the passing game to soften up for Rodgers to take advantage.

Seattle at home. That is all you need to know.
For GB their DL, Raji is gone for season. They have injuries on the OL.
Seattle is the bet. Take the ML if you are worried about the points.
Rocky, hope to see you in LV. Go Eagles.

Of course I'm a Packer fan so that taints my opinion, but the Pack offense seems to hitting on all cylinders, even in preseason. My on-line site is +5 & 45.5. I took the Pack for +5 & over.
The loss of Raji is a big hit to the defense, but I think with the addition of Peppers, it has to be an improved defense.

The game is being played in Seattle I would have to take them on this one. I think the pack will have a good year but this one wont be pretty in my mind.

As a Packers fan, my heart says take Pack +5.5 and overs, but my head says this one is way too tough to call and to leave it well alone.

The Hawks at home are lights out. One loss in 2 seasons at home, including post season play. Green Bay is definitely a playoff team, but so were the Saints and 49ers last year. Seattle slaughtered both of them at home during the regular season. I'm putting at least a hundred on Seattle to beat the spread.

Well, that includes the Fail Mary game against *ahem* the Packers.

Raji doesn't hurt the Packers as much as people think, as there was strong consideration to not resigning him after last season, and they also signed Letroy Guion as a free agent in the offseason to replace him... What stinks, though, is that Guion has been injured for all of training camp. I hear he is scheduled to get extensive playing time in the last preseason game tomorrow.

The biggest key is Eddie Lacy. If he can keep the Seattle defensive backfield honest, then Rogers will have opportunities downfield. And if the referees call the Illegal Contact and DPI as tightly as they have been in the preseason... It is possible that Seattle will realize what a Super Bowl Hangover means.

I sure hope they don't call it that tight as they have in the preseason. They've been tighter than a duck's ass and it isn't good for the game.

I know Seattle is awesome at home but I can see GB hanging with them because of their offense...but it does come down to Lacy. Even if he doesn't break 100 yards if he has a 20-22 carry night with 80-90 yards it should be enough to allow some cushion for Rodgers.

Speaking of Seattle and their homefield advantage....their fans' pomposity in protecting the 12th man moniker is insane. What's funny to me is I don't seem to recall this fervent support when the likes of Dan McGwire and Kelly Stouffer were the QB in the Kingdome.

This Packer team is probably as good, if not better than their teams in the mid-90s. The loss of Raji doesn't hurt too much, as they only play about 24% of snaps in the base defense anyway. The OL has a couple of injuries, but one is not a starter and the other guy is in his second year and has never played in a game. The Super Bowl winner is usually overrated going into the next season.....I'd take the points.

Really??? Obviously, we 're just talking opinion here, but RB is the only position where I see the current Packers as vastly stronger than the 96 team. I think people forget just how good the D was on that team: White, Brown, Jones, Dotson, Butler, Robinson. That defense was stacked. I only remember them giving up 20+ points a couple times that year and they smoked everybody in the playoffs, winning every game by double digits. I just don't see the D this year being anywhere close to that

As a long time Packer fan and season ticket holder I tend to agree with UK. Packers offense looks great but the D does not compare with 1996.

As for the game my heart says Packers but my brain says it's a toss up at the spread. If I had to bet I would take the over

Wasn't 96 the year the Pack creamed Denver in a December game something like 45 to 3? I vaguely remember watching that game, but came away really impressed by Brown. Before that, I remember thinking he was just a giant fat dude. But he just killed the Denver O-line that game. Davis did nothing!

It still stings me that Reggie left the Eagles. I will forever hate Norman Braman. Scum bag!

But you are correct -- the Packers D that year was stout...

Gilbert was very adept at being difficult to move. They did beat Denver soundly but what I remember about year was going into Chicago and beating the snot out of the Bears

There it is. Beat Denver 41 to 6 and held Davis to 54 yards! Yikes. And Denver went 13-3 that year. Wow

There is a trend that you should always fade the SB winner in their first game of the season.

The SB champ either does not cover the spread or even loses outright.
