I am going to Vegas this Friday Aug 29. I am a small business owner myself and I love to give the little guy some of my business. So I'm looking for some locals places to eat. We have a car and have been to Vegas many times so we know our way around and not afraid to drive a little, or a lot to find a good meal. So I have thrown down the gauntlet, now can any of you help me?

    A couple of our favorites:
    1. Ronald's Donuts on Spring Mountain (not far from LVA office.) Very nice owners and superb apple fritters.
    2. Amena on S Decatur near Sahara. Inexpensive and tasty Middle Eastern lunch spot run by some nice folks.
    3. Bagel Cafe on Buffalo just south of Summerlin Parkway. Busy kosher deli and restaurant. Excellent bagels and breakfast.
    4. Naked City Pizza on South Arville. Dive bar with really good buffalo wings - home of the seriously addicting "suicide fries."
    5. Eat on 7th and Carson. Maybe not a true locals joint, but the best breakfast in the downtown area. Owner is great!

    Have fun!

Here are a few independent places I have tried and liked:

Chang's Hong Kong Cuisine, excellent for dim sum
Weiss Delicatessen in Henderson, the best deli in the LV area
Lotus of Siam on E. Sahara in the commercial Center. Renowned for Thai dishes.
Pamplemousse on Sahara, fine French cuisine at reasonable prices.
India Masala & Mint Indian Bistro, both on E, Flamingo, both serve very good Indian dishes and both have excellent lunch buffets.
Bootlegger Bistro 7700 Las Vegas Blvd S. Very good Italian with nightly entertainment and some very good graveyard specials.
Zaytoon Mediterranean Market and Restaurant 3655 S Durango Dr, #11-14
Custom Built Pizza, 4165 S Grand Canyon Dr. #105
Jerry's Nugget Coffee Shop. N.Las Vegas. This is an excellent eatery that is in an independently owned and financially struggling casino.

    Black Bear Diner

This is up the road a bit fron Rio and Orleans. I only went because some friends I was with rented a car. They do fantastic breakfast there.

The Great Greek in Henderson across from Sunset Station is amazing. I've tried a lot of Greek Places but they are the best. I agree with Sam D about Weiss deli. New York Chinese in Henderson by Horizon Ridge is great too.

Bagel Cafe 301 N Buffalo in Summerlin
Lucky's Lounge 8025 Farm Road. It is a VP bar but the food is very good and the pizza is excellent. 24/7

I did the all you can eat sushi lunch at Sushi Mon on South Maryland near (in?) Henderson and it was pretty good. I just asked them for a sample of nigiri rather than ordering rolls and I probably had 18 or 20 pieces plus soup and a lychee sherbert. This was a couple of years back but the recent Yelp reviews still look good. Great deal if you can eat a lot of sushi. M Resort is not far if you haven't checked it out before.

Try Hi Scores sports bar in Henderson. It's south on Stephanie from the 215. VP sucks but the food is great and they have free pinball and video games. Fantastic beer selection.

Bagelmania, 855 E Twain Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89169, United States
Babycakes - various locations. http://www.babystackscafe.com/ - spring valley probably easiest to get to. LONG queues sometimes.

I should really write down more of the places I have been as my memory has failed me completely!

Good list... don't forget that Naked City Pizza has just opened a second location on Paradise, just south of the Hofbrauhaus and right by the Fruitloop area.

I'm taking notes and will report back when I return. All the suggestions sound great. Some where along the way I found out about The Omelette House on Sahara. OMG Huge portions of great breakfasts. Everyone gets a huge piece of Banana bread. I double dog dare anyone to eat a whole omelette there. We have some free meals coming from My Vegas points but there are still a few meals not covered yet. Its fun finding new places. Thanks for all the suggestions.

May or may not be considered a local place, but I love hitting up Capriotti's sandwich shop. Delicious! There is a bunch of them all around Vegas.

My wife and I have had a few breakfasts at Hash House Family Restaurant (Not the chain!) Mary, the owner, makes her own jellies and the food is good. Definitely a locals place and Mary has always been back in the kitchen when we visited. http://hashouse.com/home.htm

Wow... just checked their website and hadn't realized how much Capriotti's has grown!!! I knew it started back east as Rocky B points out and that it was now Las Vegas "based", just didn't know they'd added so many locations. It's a great product. A former colleague of mine is now the CEO... I'll have to give him a call and big "atta-boy!"

Capriotti's has been on my list for a couple years. Just haven't made it there yet. Sometimes just a sandwich is all we want. I've seen their menu and it sounds good.

Absolutely. Best breakfast spot I have ever been to.

It is always our last meal in LV before we hit the road.

When I go there I always feel like I am at a Midwest diner.
