Magnolia's or Tony Roma's for Prime Rib??

I have had the prime rib at Magnolia's and thought it was great. Any recent experiences with the prime rib at Tony Roma lately? I only read good things at Tony Roma's in 2013 not 14.

Wow i just saw some recent posts from yelp from the last few months and no one has anything good to say about the place. A. These people bitch about every little thing or B. This place really went downhill.

 

We've eaten prime rib at both. Been back to Magnolia's dozens of times, been back to Tony Roma's ZERO times.

 

Tony Romas is one of the worst restaurants in all of DT.

Give Redwood (Cal) or 777 (MSS) a try. 1# prime rib with the sides for $16.

 

I would pick Lawry's. They focus on prime rib and it's excellent!

 

sounds like i will stay away from there..figure since im staying downtown i will go back to magnolia's. I did try 777 once and just didnt think the meat was that great but that was one visit for prime rib there.

 

I actually like the prime rib special at the Market St. Café at the Cal after 5 pm. Price is right (around $10) and they offer a soup or salad bar in the price. The prime rib special also includes dessert - cherries jubilee.

When I go to Tony Roma's I usually order the bbq ribs.

Been awhile since I had the prime rib at Magnolias but I think the prime rib is better there than at Tony Romas. I like the one at the Cal better because I'm totally stuffed (salad bar and dessert) when done.

I'm not a fan of Tony Roma's in general. I also like the special at the Cal, largely for the salad bar.

And while my first reaction to newmans post was that you can't compare a ten dollar loss leader to a fifty dollar item, I might be tempted to agree with that. I don't eat red meat often, so when I do, I'll generally come out of pocket for a great meal rather than a comped, but otherwise forgettable one.
