Besides the glamour of the casino there was the world class buffet!
If you don't know about it then you missed out on what local critics
called the gem of Las Vegas dining. It had to close because it
caused too much traffic from people trying to park and get a seat
    to eat.

I thought they were trying to get a seat on the ferris wheel.

I'm still mad at City Center for it being demo'd. I wouldn't go near the buffet for any reason, but I loved playing Blackjack there and liked the trinket stores.

Surf Buffet was our go to when we were drunk and wanted a buffet(we didn't even care that the "egg yolks" came out of a big plastic bag). Also, always made a point to stop in to see Purple Reign for free in the lounge.

Ahhh one of my favorite memories. Vegas with my parents, in laws and our kids. We went there for buffet and then to see Trent Carlini do Elvis. My mother in law is a huge Elvis freak. Lol buffet was just eh and the show was great, if for no other reason than to see my mother in law fall in love with Trent/Elvis. The best part tho was in between dinner and the show we all took turns gambling n staying with the kids. Hubby hit big( for us at the time) and the rest of is were all up at least $50 each. The best night of that trip. We got sucked in by the rents, "bring the kids! We will help keep an eye on them!" Yeah, didn't happen. Lol. Wasn't long after, they closed up. :(

Me and my boyfriend's second trip to Vegas together, staying at the newly opened Monte Carlo. We wandered over to the Boardwalk one day and ended up eating the buffet there. All I really remember is fish sticks and mac & cheese (and I don't mean the gourmet kind you see now :)).

Only visited it once.....it was on a trip with 11 people....some were daughter / s-I-L & a few of their friends all of which were Prince fans. Promised I would take them there for a show. Everyone thought it was rather dumpy & filled with a lot of "characters"...lol. S-I-L ordered a texas tea & it had all liquor and was clear....he was almost afraid to drink it. Saw a few people passed out on the floor & the CW's were stepping over them....omg.....what an experience. We still talk about this 10 years later....lol

The only traffic I saw was centered around the bathrooms by the buffet. :haha:

I only ate at the buffet once, but I actually enjoyed it. I remember that there was some kind of a noodle dish that I found quite tasty. The desserts were good too.

The reason we ended up there was that there was a group of us and the only type of place that all could agree on was a buffet and that was the only one open at that time of the evening.

Here is a shot I took of what remained of the Boarwalk after it closed. The kind of eerie pink lighting is the light coming from the various other things on the south Strip. The entire Boardwalk property was totally dark.

I miss the Boardwalk. It was cheesy, but fun to walk past seeing those weird looking mannequins sitting on that ferris wheel out front.

And I miss Purple Reign playing there FOR FREE!! And they had a gift shop in there that sold silver and turquoise jewelry that I loved to purchase.

The only negative I found at the Boardwalk was that awful buffet, The Surf. Oh boy!

The only thing I ever knew about the Boardwalk was the little short-order grill near the front. That place made great sliders and cheesesteaks.

As the first comped rooms my wife and I got at the time were at the Tropicana (mid-80's), The Surf Buffet was our go-to breakfast spot and I recall it being touted at the time as a real "Vegas Value." I think breakfast was $1.99. I suspect breakfast can be ruined with some effort; but in all seriousness, there was nothing wrong with their breakfast buffet. When the Boardwalk closed, we started going to the breakfast buffet at Terrible's. It was very good at first but declined over time. Terrible's was the first place I ever tried to order a healthy omelet. By healthy, I mean I added spinach to my Bacon and Cheddar omelet.

I was just about to mention that clown. Ugh!

I think we went in. Once. And we watched some of the dismantling of the property because our window had an "awesome" view of the rubble pile. We must've been staying at MC that time.

The mini "tub" craps table there was a blast.

    Spent much time there.

I loved the Boardwalk. Was usually my first stop although I never stayed there. Just liked the atmosphere of it and they had some good stuff at that little food kiosk thing by the Strip. I made a pilgrimage when it was demolished to see it go out.

My one complaint is I had about $80 in credit on my card there that I never did get to use and MGM wiped it out...they were on a different program at the time like most of the MGM properties were.

Not only do I remember the Boardwalk, I remember the adjascent exotic car rental place. I think there were helicoptor rides nearby as well. My only recollection of the casino is this:

We walked in and my friend was playing a slot, coin in coin out, and it needed refilling. I was playing BJ at a nearby table. There was only one other player, down on his luck, playing the table min, which was $2 I believe. I don't remember the exact hand, but I was dealt a pat hand at first base. The dealer had a 6 showing. The other player was dealt A2 and wanted to stand. He did not understand why he had 3, not 13. I remember agreeing with him that if I gave him enough money to cover him doubling down, that I'd just ask for my money back, letting him keep the winnings. I just was not comfortable with him not taking a card.

The house allowed that. The place was really a hole by today's standards. But I agree with others.......City Center is an attractive, out of place, cluster....

Well, many people in here know my feelings on Boardwalk and my dislike for City Center. I did like the Surf Buffet because "Butter Bean" told me i would eat it and survive. And ate many a scoops of ice cream at Fosters.
Little did i know that the Boardwalk Ferris Wheel would be a precursor to the High Roller..........:wink2:
