A short while ago 'My Vegas' started to limit the free play to room stays. It seems that at Mandalay Bay they have started the same type of limit for the buffets.
46K for a out right dinner buffet and 23K for a dinner buffet WITH a room stay at MGM properties.
Will all the future 'My Vegas' game comps require room stays??

Freeplay is a relatively new reward at all the hotels - and requires a stay at the particular hotel it is valid for. This has been true since the Freeplay awards started a couple months ago.

Recently, Aria changed it's buffet rewards to require a one night stay at any MGM property. Mandalay Bay followed suit - although they still offered buffet rewards for people not staying at MGM properties, just with a higher price tag (which is a GREAT IDEA, in my opinion).

Your question is will all MyVegas rewards require room stays. No - not all of them. But in the coming months it is very likely that more and more of the rewards are going to require them.

Personally, I think these changes are a good idea. It just makes sense to not give freebies away to people who are staying at competitor's properties.

Also - look at Mandalay Bay's buffet rewards.

The higher priced rewards that DON'T require a room stay are almost all sold out. While the same lower priced buffet rewards that do require a one night MGM property stay are all available.

Just goes to show how many people use these rewards that don't stay at MGM properties...

When the free play first started, there was no requirement to have a room stay. Myself and many other used them.
The rewards are set up to get people into the casinos. Not necessarily to give out to the people already staying there.
The reason rewards are sold out is people are willing to go out of their way and actually go into the casinos for the rewards. MGM properties know this.
There are already rules and regs that prevent people to not game the system.
Just like in real casinos, when there is a change, it is not for the betterment of the players!

There were a few sporadic Freeplay rewards a while back that did not require a stay. But those were almost like a "special" reward and were not offered for very long at all.

Then they added Freeplay for EVERY casino a couple months ago - and they all require stays at the property. This rule will never be changed.

    This is the new normal.

It sucks if you don't stay at MGM properties. But I always do so I'm happy with the changes.

Yeah, I've got no issue with staying at an MGM property. Just as long as they let you stay at any MGM property, and you don't have to specifically be staying at the one that you're eating at.

If that's the way they want to play it, so be it. But these rewards aren't enough to make me change my hotel loyalties so if I hope MyVegas brings on other partners soon.

Monte Carlo's $50 dining credit and beer pairing rewards have just gone missing.

Who wants to bet that they come back with a resort stay requirement?
