17 years ago my first real date with my wife was an overnight to vegas and back to LA
after that we took a trip every 2-3 months for about 8 years

we stopped for a few years when we had the 3 kids, but when they were all old enough to walk
we started taking them for 4-5 days at either MGM Signature suites or Vdara each summer
( since both have kitchens and Vdara also has washer dryers) bonus for swim clothes!

but lately she's not been winning (or losing) much and it's just not fun for her

and even though we don't eat out much (I'm a foodie and I love to cook, sue me!:licklips:)
I don't have a bunch of garage toys or buy many other "shiny stuff" (computers, flatscreens, smartphones ..etc)
and we pay the bills, kids college savings, retirement first and then budget cash for vegas

she's been putting up resistance to going with me or letting me go solo or with the guys

even though I haven't gone on tilt in 20 years and that was $300 on the ATM when I was 27

I'm just curious how many have spouses that have changed from loving Vegas to just Meh? ( outside of problem gamblers of course)

*raises hand* The bloom fell off of Vegas for my husband about 12 years ago. He hasn't been that interested in going there. He's not much of a gambler, some $5 blackjack now and then, but that's getting harder for him to find.

Luckily, he understands my LOVE of Vegas and supports me when I take trips to meet up with friends in town. IMO, that would be a deal-breaker if he said "No Vegas for you!"

My girlfriend was actually the one who suggested Vegas. She is from Peru and wanted to see other parts of the US so she pressed me to go. I was 30 and never had a desire to visit as I wasn't a gambler really other than going to the casinos outside of Philly once in a blue moon and my online sports betting.

We first went in Jan 2010 and loved it so much that we ended up going something like four times in five months.

She likes to play the slots here and there but really enjoys roulette because in her mind she will not cause anyone to lose their money. I had to beg her to try craps and while she liked it she felt guilty about 7 out and causing people to lose. Even though I told her that it happens to everyone...multiple times.

But since the initial "Vegas blast" she hasn't really been up for it. Mainly because she went back to Peru for awhile to get her visa renewed and then travels a lot between there and here for work. I think she may want to go next spring. But she has no problem with me feeding the beast and going solo or with my friends. The perfect woman!

Mine loves the shows but doesn't like to gamble that much. I'm the one who can play for three or four hours per day. It has always been that way.

then don't break the spell and marry her!:evillaugh

I lived what you're living now for 8 years, so odd to see it change
I just think people will accept other silly or frivilous hobbies and say Ok whatever, but gambling as a hobby?:nono:

Haha no marriage plans...yet. We like our arrangement!

What's funny is people who don't get Vegas. A girl who works in my office hears me talking about it, or about going to shoot craps over in Louisiana and she always tells me I need to go to GA. Then I had four Vegas books delivered to my office and she saw them and started in on me again like I was a huge degen. All I do is laugh.

My fiance loves everything about Vegas except for the gambling. So the bulk of our trips are spent doing other things. I have to sneak out at night in order to get my fix.

The thing that drives me crazy is half of our trip is comped, so all the things she loves is because I gamble but that just doesn't seem to click.

Tell her that its been a great ride and that you will miss her and the kids very much :wink2:

Seriously though, my wife and I have TONS of differences but we see nearly eye-to-eye on Vegas and that goes a LOOONG way! Funny thing, I've also been obsessed with getting an RV and she finally broke down and did some RV shopping with me and we both are really liking the idea of a motorhome now. She started telling me how much she liked the 4 door Jeep Wranglers and I said they would be a good vehicle to tow behind a motorhome. She said she would love to have one of them as her next car and even really liked the off-road looking ones that I liked (not her usual style). I responded with: "I don't think I've ever loved you as much as I do right now!"

My husband and I are like two VPs in a Pod when it comes to Las Vegas and video poker.

My ex wife did not "Vegas" well, we visited in June and she said she would never go again. We divorced three months later. There were other issues of course, but that is a funnier version of the story! That was almost 5 years and 15 trips ago!!

My g/f is pretty into Vegas right now. But she pales in comparison to me as a gambler. Two hours of min-betting penny slots or nickel video poker is the most she can usually put up with in a day. I'd be okay with tripling that amount of time.

I am lucky.. my husband and I both enjoy Vegas. We have learned that my slot playing gets us the rooms and perks, and his craps playing and sports betting usually result in us coming home with at least 1/2 or more of our bankroll. My job is to find good airfare and a great rental car deal, his job is to supply the gambling funds. He will golf, and I will spa.. and we both will gamble. We are normally 4 days - three nights people.. but are staying 4 nights in our upcoming October trip.. so he can enjoy, Saturday college, Sunday NFL, and Monday night football. We have been married 15+ years - and have been to Vegas probably 25 times together.. and a few times we have gone seperately with friends. We agree we like going together better - and preferably with friends going at the same time.

My fiancee is not a huge Vegas lover like I am because she is not a gambler, but I think she likes it more than she lets on. She's usually down to go and gets excited for each trip. I think she's gotten a bit spoiled though by things like my comps and tier benefits. She takes them for granted now. I want her to go to Vegas with just her friends and let her see what its like to wait in lines and pay for things. She feels more entitled to my tier benefits than I do, we were at an MLife desk at Monte Carlo and they had no platinum like they do at other casinos. I didn't care too much, but she was going ballistic and told me I had to file a complaint. Really??

When we got to MGM on a Friday afternoon the lobby was full of people and the line to check-in was beyond ridiculous looking. I wasn't sure if I had VIP check-in but went to the VIP lounge to check and sure enough I did and they were already working on my reservation since the limo driver called ahead. I turned to her and said it was nice we got to bypass that 2-3 hour wait in the main lobby and she just shrugs like she wouldn't expect anything less. Seriously spoiled, I need to make Vegas difficult for her as a true test of whether or not she likes the place.

Frank, my wife used to enjoy going to Vegas with me more than she does now. She isn't a degen like I am, and she says she would rather spend her money on clothes/shoes/bags. She isn't a super girly girl, but she does love to shop like one. Luckily for me, I have a few degen friends who will go with me if I want, and my wife still agrees to go...she just doesn't gamble that much.
Your post makes me think there may be a growing issue with you and your wife. If you're being as diligent with your money as you say you are, I don't know why she would have any issue with you going. I assume she has hobbies also? Or enjoys going out for dinner or drinks with her friends? Shopping, at least?
I like to talk things out with my wife to make sure there isn't some other issue that she isn't telling me about. I would rather have a discussion and possibly a minor disagreement than a major blowup years later on something that she didn't tell me about. Hard to fix something if you didn't know anything was wrong, right? Maybe you guys could go with other couples and the gamblers could have their degen nights and the non-gamblers could enjoy shopping, shows, spa days, or whatever else *those people* do :evillaugh

the last 2 yrs my wife has turned from a normal person, into a 24/7 workaholic (srsly no friends, not even TV) and has always had an irrational amount of financial insecurity ( we have 6 months of liquid emergency funds/ monthly expenses ).....last summer on a 5 day vacation she worked 50hrs on top of 40 hrs the days in that week before leaving

so basically anything getting between her and her Iphone or laptop is just annoying/inconvenient and " wasting" money doesn't make her happy.
for me getting away to vegas is almost medicinal at this point, because I'm not caught up in the same hamster wheel mentality that she is.

    Actually about the same.
I guess maybe her a bit more because I feel it necessary to visit family once a year and she says screw the family and take an extra Vegas trip.

We both like to go often but I play more. He accuses me of being addicted to VP because when he's ready to call it a day, I still want to play. I'll play 8 hrs a day (minus a dinner break). He'll often be ready to quit shortly after dinner.
I just got this way the last few years since discovering 25cent VP - the crack cocaine of gambling. For years, he used to play that game it while I played nickels.
He may be right that I'm kind of addicted but I don't usually gamble locally and I'm not losing money I need to pay bills.

We've been married over 43 years, honeymooned in Vegas, vacation in Vegas averaged twice yearly, solo golf trip to Mesquite yearly and more recently a solo Vegas trip ror the past two years. She loves pool times, shows, fine dining, and shopping the Vegas malls.... My loves are similar plus gambling and minus the mall shopping. IMO ..... A wonderful Vegas mate and a perfect spouse. Envious anyone? Lol

I think a Rubicon would be an awesome choice:wink2:. But along with vegas, we both used to be huge motorsports fans and we both had 97-98 BMW M3's and would race each other on Sunset, PCH in Malibu and Mulholland blvd at night after work( total action junkies:ssst:)

but about 10 yrs ago she traded her M3 for a minivan for the 5 dogs....So I've been noticing a change for quite a while now

but now it's encroaching on vegas...this.shall.not.pass!
