In my day, the index finger and middle finger held up in the shape of a "V" meant peace. Does it mean something different these days? I keep track of my young relatives and some friends on Facebook and I see more and more of this in their pictures. Help an old, out of touch guy out.

It will always mean Peace to me, but I think I read that that the young 'uns use it for Victory.

    Are the fingers held side-ways?

No, vertical. I know sideways is some kind of gang thing, I think?

If its held sideways, that is called deuces. I know that was really popular seven, eight years ago, but not as much now. And it's derived from the peace V Joe is describing. Started as the peace symbol in the sixties, then the phrase "peace out" developed in the seventies and eighties as a way to say goodbye, and that eventually became the "deuces" hand sign, which is another way of saying peace out or goodbye via hand symbol. It became more and more popular and with the growth of social media, you saw more and more people copying what they had seen in pictures, but whether they knew it or not, it was a way of conveying "hey look at me, I'm leaving." You can tell I was strangely fascinated by that sign when it became popular a few years ago, lol

    Lol

Depending on the orientation of your hand, it can mean at least a couple things. Palm facing you, tongue out, means one thing. Palm facing out...peace.

It still means peace but can mean "peace out" as in I'm over it/you.
