    My Trip Report

I've never posted a trip report, but maybe this can be a dry run for my November trip. I personally love reading trip reports with lots of pictures, so I already blew this one, as I have none! But the background of this trip is that my wife had planned a trip to LA with a couple of friends for a Spanish Rock concert. She felt a little bad that she was leaving me home alone so she suggested that I take a trip. We thought Reno might be a good trip. I asked my Brother and he wanted to go. I asked my wife's brother and he wanted to go, so i suggested that we make it somewhat of a bachelor weekend in Reno, as he will have his wedding the week after. Eventually, we go that route and its a guys trip. Its my me, my brother (T), brother in law (R), brother in law (C, the guy getting married), and 3 of his friends. The plan was for me to drive up with T and R, and C drove up with the others.

I left my apartment at around 6:45, stopped at Mcdonalds to get a few Sausage McMuffins and Coffees.. got a call from my mom who was watching my daughter, forgot to leave her booster seat and a couple of other things... d'oh.. head back home to drop those off... then off to pick up T and R in East San Jose. From there, we took off, the other group was meeting at 8 or so and were going to head out. The drive was really nice. No real traffic, beautiful weather. Once you get past Sacramento on 80 E, it gets so nice. The last Reno trip we went to involved lots of snow on the way up and way back. Made for a much prettier drive, even though it was much slower.

We arrived at Silver Legacy around 11:30 AM. I figured we had no shot of checking in, but thought i'd check anyway. The guy at the front desk says to try back at 1:30, so we take off to find a liquor store. We bought a bottle of fireball and some Sailor Jerry with some coke and red bulls. We take them to my car in the parking garage and proceed to the casino to kill time before check in. I'm not a huge gambler, i like to play but i don't like to lose large amounts of money. This was a last minute trip so i didn't really set a hard bankroll for the night. I brought $300 cash and had $300 in reserve. I played some .25 VP. In February, i hit about 4 quads and a straight flush in 40 minutes in Silver Legacy. No luck this time, put in $60, lost it in 15 minutes or so.

After that, i hit the blackjack table with R and T joined shortly after. I was up and down most of the session, pretty much broke even, which was fine with me. The dealer was friendly and the drinks came quickly. We played for about an hour or so, had about 4 jack and cokes and a couple newcastles. At the beginning of the session, i was texting my brother in law, C, to see when he was coming. He was almost there around 12:30 and then i get a text from him saying "i hope you guys are drunk, because i'm already wasted". All i could think of was i hope he wasn't driving. He wasn't driving, but he was wasted when he arrived. We did an ok job catching up.

We finally got off the table around 1:45 so we go back to try and check in. Not happening. They say the rooms are all booked, come back at 3PM. We then go to meet up with C and his boys at Harrah's down the street. They have a cooler full of beer in the room.. .a little overboard lol, but free beer is free beer. We then all leave to go back to Silver Legacy for check in... the liquor and beer are hitting me pretty good. The line is really long now, so i wait while T and R go to unload my Jeep. We make it to the room, and we make a few drinks, fireball with redbull just to perk us up a bit. The room had a great view of the pool, couldn't complain there. It was only 11 floors up from the 4th floor pool, so no binoculars needed :).

We went back down to meet with the other guys, we gambled a bit, got some more drinks. We walked down Virginia street. C had mentioned that the stage in front of Harrah's was about to get going with live music so we headed over there. Things start to get hazy at this point for me. We went to Harrah's, don't remember exactly what we did out there, i know we went up to C's room for a bit. Came down with a couple beers, hung out in front of Harrah's and then left. We ended up in Siri's casino. Its a nice little spot with cheap drinks. Its similar to the Nugget but was a lot lighter in side. I bought Jaeger bombs for everybody in the group for a whopping total of 24 bucks.

Sometime after this Me, T and R ended up at Awful Awful. I remember ordering, i remember eating, i don't remember going in or leaving. I do remember the heartburn and I do remember ending up at Silver Legacy again. Back at the Black Jack table, we broke even again. Then T looks at me and says "I don't feel right"... so i said go ahead and go up to the room, gave him a key and stayed at the table for about a half hour more. R and I decide to go back to the room to make sure T is all good and to get a few minutes to recharge while we wait to regroup.

We get to the room and T is nowhere to be found. On top of that, he had left his phone in the room earlier. I had no way to contact him so we decided to wait to see if he showed up. Never happened, i was just hoping he didnt get arrested lol. We decided to go look for him and after about 15 minutes, R spots him and i'm asking what happened. Apparently he lost the layout of the casino/hotel, couldn't find his way back, and passed out on a bench somewhere in the casino. He had just about enough for the night, by this time it was about 11PM. We had been beyond drunk while it was still light outside, so we take him back to the room and let his night end.

We meet up with the other guys at Rum Bullion in Silver Legacy. The hours between midnight and 3:00 AM are a bit hazy at the moment  but i do remember plenty of fun was had. More drinking and stuff.

We ended the night at 3 AM, but i have trouble sleeping when i drink, so i was up at 6:30 AM. T got up around 8 so we got all of our stuff ready to go, and then played a bit more while R woke up and met us (he stayed with the others at Harrahs). Had breakfast at the Silver Legacy buffet. It was pretty good, though my body didn't want anything in it at all.

Overall, i lost about $400 but got plenty of time in at the tables and lots of free and/or cheap alcohol. We left around 10:00 AM as i did not want to lose any more money on this trip. Overall, i'm gaining a fondness for Reno. I had a really good time. I was never there in the heyday, but I know its not like it once was. But I had a great time and I really enjoy the downtown area. Next trip i think i will try Atlantis or Peppermill. The good thing is I know I want to be back.

Thanks for the trip report. My last trip I ended up driving to Atlantis every day. They have a nice poker room with mostly soft players and a very good selection of VP.

I think if i were staying 2 nights, i definitely would have. This trip went really fast and we weren't in any condition to drive lol. I don't know how much a cab ride would be, but next time for sure.

LOL Sound like it. Reno isn't as crummy as some people like to claim it is, you just need to put a little more effort into seeking out the better spots. The problem for me is that all the offers are coming from Vegas since I started upping the gambling. A trip to Reno would be more expensive than Vegas... Hard to justify paying more.

Yea I can see that as an issue. Its a nice 4 hour drive for me, but the hotels are more expensive on average it seems compared to Vegas (in comparable hotels). It is fun to seek out spots. Found this cool little spot called Wild Orchid at one point :).

Try GC across from the Amtrak station, it's MUCH better...
Or else, Bubinga or EDGE on a Saturday night..

I am all for discovering new spots! This one was recommended to me by a buddy of mine that goes to Reno all the time, but i'm always up for sampling others.
