The Golden Nugget recently extensively renovated. They also have been really good about booking lots of shows during the week, which attract more visitors. They also aggressively marketed to the Atlantic Club's clientele after that casino was shutdown, so they captured a lot of their business. AC can be very successful when casinos don't halfass it.

Location is good ,not a lot of "street trash" hanging around . They are smart enough to market to the seniors during the week and still have a hip-hop club to attract the kids on weekends. .
The Deck brings in all ages during the summer with some of the top lounge bands . The pool area has a nice lounge area with firepits also.
Good mix of restaurants, good happy hours . Bartenders at the VP bars are all nice ,we've gotten to be friends with several and they treat us well. The Marina hotels all seem to be doing well nobodys talking about closing.

Trump Marina was horrible but the GN is very nice. Now, with Showboat closing we're afraid that Harrah's will get too crowded for our comfort and we might move over to the GN. It's usually quiet in there without crowds on Saturday evenings.

Not totally Surprising, but good for them. They did a great job renovating. The Ribeye I had at Vic and Anthony's last year was probably the best steak i've ever eaten. Good casino vibe and bars as well. The pool area is very inviting. Their room rates are nothing to scoff at either. Just goes to show, when you don't half ass it, you can be very successful, as lithium said. I'm staying a few nights at the nugget downtown next month, I'll have to compare.
