Things to do...

We will be in Vegas for 5 nights the end of June, beginning of July. We are looking for some non gambling things to do. We have done some shows in the past, and we aren't sure if there are any shows we want to see so we thought we would make this a sightseeing trip. We have been to Vegas a few times and still haven't seen Hoover Dam so we thought maybe we could do that. An ideas for the best way to do that? Should we do some sort of tour package or rent a car and drive out? Any other must sees or dos and best way to do them?

 

We usually rent a car so we just drove out to the Hoover Dam and stopped in Boulder City on the way. Valley of Fire is also a cool place to check out if you haven't been there. Maybe the neon museum and pinball hall of fame downtown also. Have a great trip!

 

A stop at the Clark County Museum on the way or back from the dam might be interesting. It's very inexpensive ($2) . $1 if you are over 55.

I have visited a lot of the places you mentioned like El Dorado Canyon, Whiskey Pete's, Valley of Fire etc. (for those who don't know, Whiskey Pete's is extremely easy to get to by car - just go down I-15 south and keep going until you get to Primm, Nevada at the California State Line - the casinos are clearly visible right off the freeway)

Another great day trip would be Mt. Charleston, which is about 40 minutes from the Strip (highly recommended!), Red Rock Canyon and Pahrump (there are a lot of casinos along the way in Pahrump, so you can stop in and check them out (as I did). There is also a winery in Pahrump with a vineyard and great restaurant called Symphony's - here is some info:

We did a cruise on Lake Mead in combination with Hoover Dam....very interesting and enjoyable. There was a lunch stop at a casino (maybe Railroad Pass?). A free trip to Laughlin can also be a way to spend a day, but it involves gambling! Do not miss the Grand Canyon south rim, if you have never been. We rented a car and spent a night there, but the day trip is worth it.

 

I thought Zion was a longer trip than two hours. I'll have to check that out.

 

Yeah, it's normally 2.5 hours. With the current construction between LV and Mesquite as well as the Virgin River Canyon rebuild, it'll be about 3 hours (one way).

Don't know if you're into guns or what state you're from, but you should go try shoot a machine gun. It can be expensive if you get carried away. Stay away from the Gun Store, always super crowded. Plus there are a ton of other ranges where you can go. Should be something you have to try at least once in your life.
