No offense, but if you think Tony Roma's is great food, then I think you will be happy with any buffet you choose. For dinner buffets, expect to pay $11 (Main St Station) and up.

We ate at the Tony Roma's two years ago when out there for my nephews 21st birthday against my better judgement and it was one of the worst meals I have had in my life.

Is Tony's still open in the Fremont? A Google search will quickly show that their restaurants are closing right and left, I suppose due to popular demand! I used to like it, but to quote the Raven, "Nevermore!"

I believe it is. I disagree with everyone. I really enjoy Tony Roma's ribs. They are some of the best for a "family type chain" restaurant. Not gourmet food but much better than I could make myself! My mom likes going there downtown when she visits Vegas.

Tony Roma's may still be good in other parts of the country but the one at Fremont has the worst service I think I've ever received at a restaurant. They literally didn't wait on us for over 30 minutes after we were seated, and that included telling several employees that walked by that we hadn't been served. The food took forever, and came in shifts several minutes apart. It's like the perfect disastrous marriage of a declining chain and service industry union problems. Don't do it. Lot's of better choices downtown.

With all of the offerings downtown and around vegas I'm surprised people give much consideration going to the Roma's in Fremont. Went with my parents once for a steak and lobster deal. Never again, the ribs were not what I had experienced at home location.

Do try the 2nd Street grill right next to Roma's. Great value, great service and very good quality.

Haven't eaten at a Tony Roma's in years so I can't attest to the current quality of their food or service. What I can tell you is that every time I walk by it, I believe it's in the Fremont, there are incredibly long lines and I don't think they are open for lunch.

Lots of great places for ribs in Las Vegas though. Chat up a bartender and they'll point you in the right direction.

Ate at 2nd Street myself last summer, and like yourself I was pretty impressed with the overall dining experience.

All of the Fremont St. Buffets are under 20 dollars per person with maybe the exception of the Seafood Buffets at one or two of the properties there.

My recommendations for buffets are MSS, and Fremont. They offer ribs but I personally haven't tried it. But if you're able to get about and around, the Orleans buffet had excellent beef ribs last time I was there.

Reviews from other people is helpful but sometimes if you really want to try a place out it's best to just go regardless. Most times the reviews are right but everyone is different. Some people don't mind the bad service because they like the food. Some like the quick, attentive service even though the food is average at best.

Tony Roma's at the Fremont is always busy with long lines. Yet the reviews here is less than stellar. These are one of the places you've just got to try for yourself otherwise you'll always wonder.

I try to avoid chain food places in Vegas because as its been mentioned, Vegas has a lot of unique food offerings to explore and try.

If you want some good ribs, head to the BBQ place at Ellis Island behind Bally's. I'm not a ribs person, but last year ate there and they were so good I wish I would have had a full rack instead of half rack. Good pricing and brewed on property micro brews and root beer.

Tony Roma's is GREAT. Just look at how the place is packed while those "name" places on the Strip are mostly empty with their $50 a la carte plates. Another great cheap place is Magnolia's across the street at $ Queens. Can't go wrong at MSS buffet either, or the $24 steak meal at the Cal's Redwood Grill.

I like the Golden Nugget Buffet but I haven't done it in a couple years. Tried MSS buffet a couple times in April and I was disappointed.

A better bet would be one of the restaurants downtown such as Hash House a Go Go, 777 Brewery, Magnolia's or Dupar's

It's not ribs but I love the BBQ bacon Cheeseburger at 777 at MSS. You can have it served with a side of garlic fries. Buffets downtown (IMHO) are not a strength. I like MSS for breakfast and the Fremont for a nicer than average environment. I would never recommend the Golden Nugget buffet. For me, it is one of the worst I've had in Vegas. I like a lot of things about the Nugget but the buffet is on my to be avoided list.

Add me to the list of "never agains" for Tony Roma's at the Fremont.
Food was mediocre, but the service was atrocious.
A far cry from the pretty-good Tony Roma's that was at the Stardust back in the day.

As for downtown food? My go-to places are:
Breakfast - either Dupars or Magnolia's
    Lunch/Dinner - 777 or Hash-House
    High-end? Either Hugo's or Vic & Anthony's
Fast-food - Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast and Lanai Express for lunch/dinner.

Tony Romas is not for BBQ snobs!

However, for an enjoyable meal every now and then, it's just fine. I've never had a bad meal over the years at the TR in the Fremont or at the (may it RIP) Stardust.

I never did at Stardust, but I have at TR in Fremont.

But, the OP was looking for buffet suggestions downtown.

BBQ "snobs"???? America's most basic, down-home, hoi polloi, indigenous food and it divides along snobs/slobs?!?! I had no idea. I just thought there was good barbecue and bad barbecue, which really might actually be quite good as far as eats goes even if it might not be "real" barbecue.
