Just got back from a quick trip booked to Thehotel. The conversion has gone into full swing:

The entry from valet is fully closed off. You have to walk around to the right of the valet and back into the building . There is an impromptu bell stand outside the door there.

The check in area is under full demolition. The area is still in operation but the demolition sound around it is loud. Very very loud. The coffee shop has been moved to between Mix and the showroom. The bar and cafe are still up and running, although I have to wonder who's going to go there with the noise of the demolition. The wall and restrooms opposite the cafe have been covered. Finally, the little shop back there is still in business for the moment.

As for the hotel rooms themselves, several floors are under construction. I was warned that the construction would be going on 24/7.

Finally, the noise was obviously having an impact on the front desk staff. In the past, checking into Thehotel has been a delight. This time it was a horror story. I'll save the narrative, and just say at the end of the story my host had moved me to MB, and apologized for not being able to upgrade us, but "All our invited guests are bailing out of Thehotel and we're running out of rooms".

That being said, please be wary if you have a trip planned in the near future.

Yes. I was just there and stayed in the hotel. On Thursday/Friday there was substantial construction during the day on both floor 1 (the lobby) and floors 30+ (the actual hotel).

I took the upgrade to THEhotel knowing about the construction since we knew we would never be in the room during the day. Other than the stuff going in at the lobby it affected us not at all. If you're concerned about the noise, try to get into the middle floors, as the construction is at the lobby and up high.

Does anyone know how long this construction is going on, I have 2 nights booked at Luxor May 31 and 2 nights at TheHotel on June 2nd. I wonder if i should just stay at Luxor for the whole trip.

Your Right about that being better than Luxor. I just called there and they said construction will still be going on, and that other than the lobby everything else should not be affected.

I think will just leave well enough alone. Really at a rate of $59 a night, i'm not going to find any better quality at that price.

    Forget the $59 number.

    $59 per nite + 13% tax ($7.67), plus $28 (tax inclusive) resort fee = $94.67 per night.

Still, every hotel charges tax and almost all have a $28 resort fee, and you'd be hard pressed to find anything inclusive for under $94 a night.

Ah, even with construction it's better than Luxor haha. As long as they aren't pounding away in the middle of the night I think I could tolerate it. When you stay there 98% of the things you do are in actual MB anyways.

Delano opens officially 9/1. I'm guessing there will be people put in upgraded rooms at some point before then.

Agreed on that part. Once they rename the place and remodel, the rates will increase by a wide margin--that's why they do this. This will probably be your last opportunity for a long time, to get rates that low.

We've stayed at The Hotel several times over the years. The condition of the rooms and the property in general, have definitely seen better days. They truly needed this upgrade.

I remember specially priced times in Dec, when we paid as little as $45 for the room, with no resort fee then. Other times they had buy 2 nites, get one free, stuff like that--sometimes even with food credit included.

It's just hard to pay nearly that much for the resort fee alone. These resort fees are out of control price wise. Give em a inch, and they'll take a mile.

I also believe they should be required to list the full price of the room when it's offered.

For instance when you buy gasoline, a considerable large % of the price per gallon is govt. taxation. They don't advertise a $3.50 gallon of gas for $3.00, then say we add 50 cents per gallon in govt. taxes.

The legislators in NV, have allowed this resort fee thing to continue. Obviously they work hand in hand, will not bite the hand that literally feeds them here.

Don't get me wrong. These Vegas resort properties have the full right to charge any amount they wish for their room, and moreover, whatever amount the market will bear based on demand. We see that clearly, if you've ever tried to book a room in Vegas for New Years Eve.

I was in the automobile business for years. We could legally charge outrageous amounts for financed credit contracts. This was provided we abided by all the truth in lending disclosure laws--as long as it was clearly listed/explained in the contract.

Hey, I don't mind be done over, just do it "legally", eh?

From what I've seen, some I like. Some I dislike. I think the darker colors used for THEHotel we're a little more to my style. I'm not a fan of all the bright white at Delano.
That carpet in the hallways looks pretty rad! I wish they used this stuff in the rooms!

Supposedly a couple floors have been fully transformed and there have been a couple reports of people already staying in the rooms. Floors 36 and 37 I think.

Can't wait to get back there in September. Already booked when it was THEHotel so I'm booked into Delano by default.

I agree that the resort fees seem out of control for what you get (wired Internet and gym access?????), but I don't mind the pricing model that the casinos use. If you're an informed buyer, you'll have factored all of the different costs into the final price. The only people that truly get screwed, in my opinion, are those that book third party and get hit with a resort fee upon check-in. However, that's not the casinos fault.

Breaking down the price is a good way to show exactly what you're paying for. Spirit Airlines employs this method to show you how much they charge and what the "government's cut" is. On certain flights to Vegas where the base fare is $9 (+$35 checked bag), the government fees can amount to over 300% of the fare. It's interesting to see that on a price breakdown.

Is the restaurant Mix still going to be open? They are in the top floor next to the club. I'm taking my parents there next month. But staying elsewhere.

The coming of Delano also means that miX is doneso and we're pretty sure no one's broken up about that. In its place will be another Alain Ducasse restaurant, Rivea, which will feature French and Italian cuisine. The dining concept made its debut a year ago in Saint-Tropez. Ooo la la. Meantime, miX lounge will also see its own rebranding as a separate as-yet-unnamed concept. Look for those new additions by late this year, or early next.

    Mandalay Bay construction?

Hey, I understand they're making some changes to THEhotel, which I understand is part of Mandalay Bay. I've never stayed on that end of the strip but we're going mid-July for three nights via MyVegas. We were going to see if we could $20 our way to a THEhotel upgrade, as many other MyVegas-ers have. Does the construction mean that's not possible?

We like all the luxury we can get, but all we REALLY care about is a fabulous Strip view. Will the construction affect the likelihood of that happening? (We're staying there Sun-Wed.)

Anything we should know about construction in the lobby, etc?

And finally, is the Foundation Room still open? We were looking forward to going up there for the sunset one night...........

    Thanks for any help!

    Mamamk.

I was able to $20 from MB's cheapest room to a sweet suite (see what I did there) in THEhotel in April. By July I imagine they may actually have many of Delano's rooms complete, so you might even get the remodeled rooms. They started room renovation on the 37th floor and are presumably working down, so any complete rooms should have a decent view.

IMHO the MB rooms actually have a superior view of the strip, but those in THEhotel tower are good too, the higher up you go.

The lobby construction was bad when we were there. However, I don't see any reason to hang around the lobby. Just check in at MB desk, and otherwise you should only need to pass through there.

Foundation Room is on top of Mandalay Bay's tower, so it should be entirely unaffected. MiX (on top of THEhotel) was still open when we were there. I really don't think that it was affected too much either, as the construction happened during the day when MiX isn't open.

    Hope this helps.
