I am thinking of booking the Rio or Palms in early December. I have never stayed at either so I have a few questions. Does either have safes in the rooms and how much would I expect to spend if my friends and I went to either of their night clubs? It is a special occasion but we don't want to drop a thousand each for 1 night of partying. I appreciate everyone's feedback.
    Thank you in advance

I've stayed at the Palms a couple times, but don't remember if they have safes in the rooms. It's a good place to stay if you don't mind being a little off the strip.

I've been to Moon a couple times, nice but definitely not in the same class as some of the top night clubs on the strip. Decent drinks were about 10 bucks a piece last time I was there during a weekday.

The Palms is also a good place to gamble when compared to the strip properties.

I've never been a fan of the Rio, overpriced restaurants and bad gambling just doesn't do it for me.

Palms has become one of my favourite places to stay in Vegas. Both Rio and Palms have safes in the rooms. Palms rooms in the Ivory Tower have been recently renovated. The Fantasy tower has not yet been renovated. If you are sharing a room with friends and if sharing the bathroom could be an issue, Rio may work better for you as there is a dressing room area with sink and vanity and a separate bathroom so more than one person can be getting ready at a time. If guys, probably not an issue but I wasn't sure from your post.

Palms often includes entry to the nightclub with room packages and with comps.

Moon at the Palms closed down a few weeks ago leaving The Palms with only one club, Ghostbar. Ghostbar has free admission for hotel guests and when I was there a few weeks ago on a Saturday night it was pretty good. I love the Palms, lots of cheap food options and a movie theatre as well as good BJ and good video poker. Pool area is good too and Ditch Fridays daytime pool party starts this Friday.

Does the Deuce bus run by the Palms?

No, but there is a free shuttle across the street at Gold Coast that stops there, the Orleans and at Ballys. The Ballys stop picks up outside the food court entrance.

There's a bus stop right in front of the main entrance of the Palms. Not sure of the bus number or if it runs 24/7 though.

The 202 is 24 hours and stops right by the Palms/Gold Coast. It is about every 15 mins during the day, 20 mins at night. You can text ridertc 1000 to get the times from the stop by Palms. Depending where you are coming from, ridertc plus the number noted on the stop will give you the time of the next three buses at that location.

I have stayed at the Rio and really enjoyed it. However I would play at the G.C or Palms. Food wise I love the Carnival buffet ( avoid the seafood buffy) and enjoyed Buzio's although it was VERY noisy the 2 times I was there. G.C. is a value play dining wise.. as well as gambling wise. Palms I never could figure the place out( hipster joint?/ or a place to gamble)... never dined there but gambling did okay.

We have stayed at both places, and the Rio definitely has larger rooms, but the Palms room are nice enough, and the LVA 50% off coupon can help out in a few places. However, for us, the biggest draw would be the video poker games at the Palms ... the Rio is no comparison at all in that department.

I've stayed in both (and Palms Place). I like them both, staying at Rio this time (next week) but I'll be over at the Palms as well, I love the casino and $5 craps can be found most of the time. Larger rooms at Rio, both places have nice pools. Frequent shuttles to/from the strip. You can't go wrong either way IMHO.

Thanks for all the feedback. I ended up booking the Palms. The one thing I was a little surprised by was that they charged all 3 nights in advance. That's okay though. All I have to pay for is the Resort Fee when I am down there then.

Did you book through a third party site? I've never heard of a Vegas hotel charging you all nights in advance... I've been on other cities that offer a discount if you pay in full in advance...

If you don't mind taking the bus i would get the 3 day pass for 20$ and that will get you to/from strip anytime. We did the 15 day for our 9 day trip and loved the freedom it gave us. Pick up outside palsm drops off outside ballys on flamingo. Pick up to go back is outside ceasar's on flamingo and drops off at GC across from the Palms. GC has a buffet that is cheap. $6 in the morning, $8 for lunch and $10 for supper. We did both breakfast and supper and found them adequate.

I just checked my credit card and it looks like they only charged for the 1st night. The confirmation that they sent me showed the entire price for all 3 nights so I assumed they billed me for them.
