Looking at possibly renting a car - a convertible.

Looking for a 1 way rental (1st night at Golden Nugget) next day move to Flamingo.

Prices are high right now - maybe that's the new trend - for July 21 - 21.

If you have promo codes please send!

Also, it says 'Ford Mustang or Similar'. What's the 'or similar car'?

    Thanks!

Hertz generally has two classes of convertibles. I'm in their #1 Club Gold, so this is usually the deal:

$10 a day upgrade from a "normal car": Mustang or Chrysler 200 convertible
    $100 a day: Mercedes convertible

Caveats: (1) You and I might be thinking, "A Chrysler and a Mustang are the 'same?' Seriously? Not a snowball's chance in El Paso." But in terms of the cost/value of the cars, that's how Hertz determines these categories. Both are roughly $25,000-$30,000 cars in base form, so they group those two together. (2) You may not be referring to Hertz, and so the "or similar" part may be totally different with Avis or whomever you're working with. But I can reliably tell you that my description of Hertz' policies is reasonably accurate from years of experience.

Hertz was one of the places I was looking at.

However, the Mustang and the Chrysler have different prices and terms.

    Chrysler 200 Conv. or similar

    5 Passengers
    2 Small Suitcases
    A Automatic Transmission
    Air Conditioning
    10 km/liters

    [+]Vehicle & Rate Details
101.00 USD Per Day Unlimited Free Miles Included

    Mustang Convertible

    4 Passengers
    2 Small Suitcases
    A Automatic Transmission
    Air Conditioning
    13 km/liters

    [+]Vehicle & Rate Details
101.49 USD Per Day 200 Free Miles Included .30 USD Each Extra Mile

So it appears that you should be guaranteed one or the other.

In fact upon looking...it looks like actually the Chrysler is the one that lists 'or similar'.

    Thoughts?

Also: Do you know why certain cars can't be rented at the airport through Hertz, such as the Corvette Convertible and Chevy Camaro SS Convertible

I can say that the Hertz Adrenaline Collection is somewhat limited in availability, as is the Prestige Collection. I've had spotty experiences with trying to get a car from either of those groups. That said, always ask when you get to the counter. They may not think they have one, but then it turns out somebody returned a Camaro, etc. earlier that day or whenever, and they actually CAN offer it to you if you ask.

But if I book it...don't they have to honour that? Or do you just get a different vehicle? And if you get then just a different vehicle (mid size, full, ect) don't you get a worse rate as you are only getting that days rates - which are generally higher than if you book in advance?

We rented a Mustang convertible last year. Great for two people but not for more-no back seat leg room.

Keep in mind a convertable is nice, we rented one from the Cosmo in Sept last year for a day, did the Valley of Fire and Hoover dam run etc. problem was roof down for a few hours great to cruise the strip in it etc. but by noon it was 100 out roof came on and air conditioner on high, so no need now for a convertable, I see July is your date should be well over 110 I would imagine by then. might just want a nice car with cold AC

How long did that all take to do?

Did you do to sky walk? is there a place to go to see the Grand Canyon that you don't have to pay to do the sky-walk?

Did you do a tour at the hoover dam?

That's similar to what I'm thinking.

    Thanks!

    WITH HERTZ:

Why can I rent a Ford Mustang convertible from the airport...but no the Corvette Convertible?

I could pick up either from the Flamingo...but then there is an added fee and limited mile allowance.

Valley of Fire is not the Grand canyon,
thats beyond Hoover Dam, http://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire-state-park/ VOF is north of Vegas about hours drive if i remember right, Canyon I have not done , but I think thats a trip on itself esp doing the Sky walk maybe some one else has done that loop and can chime in. I didnt do the tour I kind of like to wing it, not into the touristy stuff I guess :rolleyes2:

So Valley of fire is not in the Grand Canyon park...but isn't it still the Grand Canyon?

So you didn't so the skywalk? Is there a place to stop and pull over if not doing the sky-walk? - I don't think I'm interested in the sky walk.

you may want to do a map quest to get a better sense of the locations with Las Vegas as your hub that way you can get a visual sensce of your location and how to navigate there. Valley of Fire is not part of the Grand Canyon State Park 2 different things all together

Sorry, somehow I thought Valley of Fire was the name of the place where the skywalk is - obviously wrong.

I was thinking that because the sky walk place isn't considered part of the Grand Canyon park

VoF is north of town. Grand Canyon is in Arizona, which is south. BTW- VoF is worth the trip. Easily my fave place in the Vegas area.

Hertz only has a few of each car in the Prestige and Adrenaline collections. With the Porsche’s and possibly the Vette there may only be one. Once it’s booked it’s gone. These cars all have 100 mile a day limits, at least at the airport location.
