This section of the Message Board generally displays complimentary posts when discussing the Orleans. And very deservedly so, in my opinion.
It has occurred to me, that there is another area that I have never seen mentioned ,where this hotel appears to excel. That is, in my opinion, it seems to attract a friendlier clientele, and this is particularly noticeable when using the hotel elevators.
I am using experiences over the past 5 years or so as my reference. We have stayed at the Orleans & Gold Coast exclusively during this period, and about 3/4 of that at the Orleans. I have made it a point to nearly always say hello to anyone on the elevator when I get on. If there are more than 2 on board, I will make a comment, usually with a touch of humor, to get things going. More often than not it works, and the rest of the journey is a bit of fun.
This works far more often at the Orleans. Part of the reason, is that elevator ride is longer at the Orleans upper floors, but there still seems to be a greater reluctance for people to respond at the Gold Coast. It also seems easier at the Orleans to have some very pleasant conversations with people in the buffet lineups.
    Anyone else have similar impressions?

I never thought about it until I read your entry, but I have a tendency to agree with you.

The Orleans was my hotel/casino of choice for years before I changed to downtown.

It was quite friendly, as I recall.

I have also had similar pleasant encounters with the Hawaiians at MSS.

I can't make a comparison with the Orleans since I have only stayed once. But I have stayed about 25 times at the Gold Coast. I always have some sort of salutation for my fellow passengers and some humor on numerous occasions. eg. "third floor - women's lingerie.
