Judging by their website www.1923lv.com they have not figured out the difference between Rye Whiskey and Bourbon Whisky.

Click Menu, and Bourbon. Where's the Bourbon??!

that is odd, isn't it? My guess is is that someone was handed an excel spreadsheet and only copied over one of the workbook pages, the spreadsheet probably had everything in categories and some low level intern who knows nothing of whiskey copied only one page...just a guess tho

true, but I believe it is owned/bottled and distributed out of Vermont...

 

Yes, distilled and aged in Alberta and shipped in bulk to Vermont where it's bottled. A weeeeee bit pricey at $77 a bottle, but its 100 proof. I just wish Beam would market Rye whisky from Alberta Distilleries down here in the states.

 

Yeah, I would love to see some Pappy Van Winkle 23 on the Bourbon Menu.
The concept is cool, but I got say its screw ups like this that influence my opinion out of the gate. I wonder how involved HM really is, besides showing up and possibly flashing her boobies.

I haven't had it but everyone I speak to raves about it, even a hipster bartender in a speakeasy in NYC quietly nodded his head when I asked about it. I just can't seem to spring for it when Jefferson rye is 1/3 the price and fantastic in its own right.

I'll get around to trying soon.

 

I had a Manhattan made with Whistle Pig at the Knife and Fork in AC, it was pretty darn good, but it didn't blow my hair back. What's left of it, that is.

Can't believe they have Old Overholt on this list, its a decent rye and a great value, but maybe its there for nostalgia. Now, Rittenhouse Rye.....that makes a great Manhattan, a great value and at 100 proof, it stands up to an ice filled shaker begging to be poured "up" into properly chilled stemware.

 

So I posted something on their facebook page, and got a kinda bullshit response. I guess they figure the average joe is not going to recognize the difference between Bourbon and Rye Whiskey. Hopefully they will have the common sense to put some actual high end Bourbon on the menu.

Serious Bourbon drinkers who go there would call them out on this shit, however my guess is we are not the clientele they are marketing to.

I looked due to this article on Vegas Chatter this morning.

Pass on these morons. I have no faith at all in the establishment, the bartenders or anything else involved.

 

Agree, that it looks much better, but still not a serious Bourbon drinkers list to drewl over...its just a lot of stuff they can pry extra money out of the hands of those not in the know...

Agree with Funkhouser, us serious Bourbon folks are not the clientele they are after...

Don't get me wrong, a lot on that list is good (Col Taylor, High West) and a lot is of standard "goodness" but IMHO, not anything I go out of my way for...

 

"Makers Mark" should be Maker's Mark
"Blantons" should be Blanton's
"Angels Envy" should be Angel's Envy

I recently picked up a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch, thought it was very good, smooth.

 

The writer himself might want to take a lesson or two on spirits since he spells it Whisky not Whiskey and any serious drinker knows without the E makes it a Scotch.

Sorry to correct you, but Scotch is not the only spirit called Whisky. Many Bourbons use this spelling hence the writers use of it. In Bourbon country in KY this is the preferred spelling.



FYI....The spelling whisky is generally used in Canada, Japan, Scotland, England, and Wales—while whiskey is more common in Ireland and the United States. The usage is not always consistent. For example, some prominent American brands, such as George Dickel, Maker's Mark, and Old Forester (all made by different companies), use the 'whisky' spelling on their labels, and the US legal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits document also uses the 'whisky' spelling.

"Scotch" is the internationally recognized term for "Scotch whisky". It is less used in England, Scotland & Wales, where the drink is called simply "whisky".
