self serve soft drinks??

Here our casinos have a beverage station with soft drinks and water because quite honestly it can be hard to get a CW to come by when you are just drinking diet coke.

Do any of the casinos have this if you're not a drinker but are still gambling??

 

I don't drink, but i have CW's who serve me soda, water, and hot chocolate all the time. Once i get my drink, i proceed to tip her.
Cocktail Waitresses don't care if you order water, diet coke, or a Pina Colada, they do prefer tips however, and they work hard for the money.
When the CW's come around to your station, you order whatever you want, just be sure to stay at your machine until she comes back (or close enough so she'll see you).
You are not obligated to tip, but tipping at least a buck would be nice and she'll remember that, and you'll probably see her again and again.
That goes for table games as well.

 

Drink service is handled differently at our local casinos. At Hollywood Lawrenceburg, there are self serve soft drinks as well as CW service. The CW service is good, regardless of what you drink, because most people tip on all drinks.

At Horseshoe Cincinnati, all drinks are ordered right at the machine. I think this is a great system.

At a local racino they have self serve stations and CW service but the CW service is extremely poor. I have played for many hours on some days without seeing a single CW. And sometimes it is not very convenient to leave your machine to get a self serve beverage.

 

My experience is that drink service has declined in most local casinos with soft service machines so I am glad they don't have them in Vegas. Its as if those casinos would rather you get your own drink even if it means you stop gambling to do it.

It was tried at a local Vegas casino and didn't work. There is no problem ordering soft drinks from a CW but service speed depends on staffing and number of positions they service.

 

I too usually only want a water or soda. I have started buying one in the gift shop on my way into the casino. As a slot only player I have had many days where I couldn't get a waitress to stop or never saw one. If you tip $1-$2 for a soda (most casinos give you all ice with little soda) it is gone in a few minutes anyway. I find it easier to try to remember to pick one up myself on the way in. Also easier to machine hop with a bottle with a screw top on it. All of the above posters were correct.

 

It used to be at the M, but I did not see it on the last trip.

All local (Council Bluffs - Omaha area) casinos have it. Ditto for Kansas City.

I'll bring in my bottle of water then ... previous poster is right, it's easier to machine hop that way. It's not that we dont drink, I just prefer a GOOD drink vs a tiny glass of crap on the floor.

 

Yes there was a soft drink self service station inside the casino at M Resort when it was opened but it is already gone since at least 2 or 3 years....

 

Actually I thought one of the reasons for the M removing it was because the service was being abused. I remember when I was there people would come in with their super big gulps and bottles and big containers and filling up at the station, then without gambling would leave the place so the M took it away.

I actually liked it, since I mostly drink sodas when I gamble I would rather just take a bathroom break and fill up on a cup or two. I couldn't see tipping a cw for a soda and would rather get it myself, IMHO.

 

They cant have those on the strip , its great for a local casino but on the strip there would be way too many people going in for drinks and not playing

 

I never saw this at the M...how long ago was this and where was it? The only part of the casino I ever hung out in was the area between the deli and buffet that included the pit area..

 

I'm kind of cheap, so to save money by not tipping the CW I always buy a drink cup from a fast food place at the start of my trip and refill the same cup all trip. At Planet Hollywood I buy a cup at Earls, at Monte Carlo I buy a cup from Rubios, Caesars Palace I get the generic cup from the food court...I have a place at most casinos that have a self service soda machine.

 

I have never seen a self service pop machine-yes pop lol versus soda.

Cheap fountain pop for a buck versus real pop/soda or water from a store.

Store etc wins imo.

I think he's talking about Food Courts in Casinos like Monte Carlo, Luxor, the old O'Shea's, etc. where the casino and food court are pretty close together. You can keep refilling the cup at the soda fountain and then proceed back to the casino.

 

That would never happen in Omaha. There's some kind of regulation that you can't take any drink of any kind, even a soda, in or out of the casino. If security sees you walking out with a drink (all casinos in the area have entry/exit checkpoints) they will tell you to finish it then and there or else trash it.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you are stealing. Not sure that they care but free refills is for you meal and not your entire trip. I can't see you buy a cup one day and then proceeding to fill it up every day for free after that.

 

I'm not sure I'd want to carry a drink cup around everywhere just to get free refills. Seems excessive because I'd have no where to put it? lol

 

I remember when they had the free soda machines at the M when it first opened. They were great. Then I heard in the summer people would bring in their own coolers to try and fill it up with ice and soda and they got rid of it.

 

Just think about it.

MGM has 5000 rooms. That means they can handle at least 10,000 guests per day. Thats not counting the equal amount of people just visiting the hotel every day.

How big would the self serve station have to be to handle that many people?

At local casinos they have a very small amount of people and there usually are no other casinos nearby so they can get away with it but it just doesnt make sense in vegas.
