    Anyone stayed here recently?
I haven't stayed there in 10 yrs .. how bad is it?

I have recently chatted with my Mom who advised she would not care where she stayed if she ever had the chance to go to Vegas again ... since it's just a place to lay her head and she'd barely be into the room .. she would be there for the nightlife!!

I can get Excalibur super cheap right now of course .... it wasn't horrible when I was there, dark and gloomy I thought but walk outside and soooo many options await!!!

Location is good - that is about it.

Low end Vegas at its best

There is a certain amount of love here for Excalibur but IMO opinion you can upgrade to another hotel for a minor amount of $ and its well worth it.

I just stayed there last weekend on a MyVegas comp. I got 2 nights free and paid for 1 night. It wasn't too bad. The rooms are a bit worn down. We had a room in tower 2 and honestly it served its purpose. The bed was comfortable and the place was clean. All of the hotel employees were really nice.

You are just across from NY NY & MGM, can walk over to Luxor/Mandalay Bay. Cheap eats in the food court. The casino is really smoky compared to others, drink service wasn't the best at times. Depends on what deals I was getting but if it was one of the cheaper options I would consider it again.

I don't necessarily buy into the whole "it is what it is", "you get what you pay for", "it's just a bed" mentality. I genuinely like Excalibur. I would pay more for Excalibur than for MGM or Mandalay Bay. It is a genuine preference.

Some people call it a dump. It is often called "trashy castle" on the board. I called it a supermini-Disney or Chuck E Cheeses for adults. I feel like I am in an alternate game world in there. I like it.

It has the best food court on the strip in my opinion. It is a part of the Four Corners. It is conveniently located next to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. It has an awesome pool with great music, fun atmosphere and sweet cabanas. The gym is very nice. The spa is kind of spartan.

I wouldn't play in Excalibur except for throwing a $5 in a slot or $20 bucks at a $5 table because I do not have much luck here. I enjoy their Buca di Beppo in-house. The pasta here is very yummy. I used to love their contemporary rooms but since they changed the decor a little, now I just like it. The basic room is kind of gloomy but you can easily upgrade for $10/night at check in or offer the $20 tip.

Australian Bee Gees and Thunder from down under were cool shows. Their arcade is nice and large with 3D shows, which people pay good money to see in amusement parks. Next door at Luxor, Menopause the Musical and Titanic museum are quite enjoyable (if the latter is not a little sobering). All-in-all, just a solid property really.

In my humble opinion, the Excalibur is what people pay $120/night for in big cities and they won't even get half the amenities offered here.

Does the $20 trick work here???
I would love to book the basics and then try that .. does $10/nt get you the contemporary rooms?

Yes, I think it's either $10 or $20/night to upgrade, not sure. Yes $20 trick usually works for me.

I had some friends stay there last year, and I saw their room. I wasn't impressed. They said "we just need a roof and a bed" and that was about all they got. The room they had had no tub and no safe that we could find and we looked everywhere. They had just the basic room. I would either upgrade or stay somewhere else.

    Thanks for the feedback!

So I think I've decided to go cheap and save the money and book here!
Stayed here before, like the location, great food court, monorail onsite, and right across the street you can catch the duece to go north.

We dont plan on staying/playing in our hotel much and although it's a birthday trip, I'll be happy just to be in Vegas again ...

Now onto researching other things :)

Edit to add: My hubby just told me to book Mirage and splurge for my birthday .. sigh

Stayed at the Excal last week on a 3 free night offer and asked for a upgrade and got it free. Great location, it's our favorite place to stay, price is right!

We were just there and the safe was in the dresser. The 2 bottom drawers on the right open up and it was in there.

I can confirm that as well. We stayed there last year in a contemporary room. Bed was comfortable. Good amount of counter space in the bathroom. Convenient food court. Easy access to Luxor and NYNY. No complaints.
