I have to say I can usually smell a scam email a mile away but I got one today that almost took me for a loop. I got an email from a funeral home in Florida saying it was a funeral announcement for someone we know. I actually do have an elderly family friend who lives in the same city where this funeral home is located so I actually had to stop and wonder for a moment if it were real. I didn't even think at the time why would I be getting an email invitation to the service - besides the fact that maybe her family wouldn't know how else to contact me and you know how everything seems to be done online nowadays - so why not that? At first I was really upset.

I had to google the name of the funeral home and came accross this:

    http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-north-pinellas/belleair-bluffs/hubbell-funeral-home-targeted-in-phishing-scam-using-death-notification-emails

    This is just awful.

Thought I would pass along in case anyone gets one of these emails!

Wow, that's awful, especially if they are using the name of a relative or someone you know. I could see that my immediate reaction would be to ask for more info and click.

    Thanks for sharing that.

Just different enough to make you click.

    Thanks for the warning.

I got this email as well. I knew immediately it was fake. Especially when it told me to click to link for the invitation to the funeral.

I saw a guy a bit older than me at the bank yesterday with one of those scam checks you get in the mail saying you have won $26k or whatever large amount it is. He was trying to cash it.

He was upset when they told him it was bogus.

People really still fall for this stuff after everything we have heard about it?

Its not like he was feeble or anything, just a regular looking guy. So it makes me wonder, what did he teach his kids about scams like this and will they grow up to eventually be the older generation being taken advantage of?
