For Us, we were over whelmed when we arrived the first time in Vegas.

After a early 6:20Am flight, arriving at Bally's early afternoon,

Seeing how big Vegas was, we broke down once we got to our room (overwhelmed).

We took a 2 hour mental sleep before we gained our courage to venture onto the Strip.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

GF was afraid to get out of the bed after wake up nap time. And we were so scared to venture on to the GREAT STRIP. :nworthy:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, we can't wait to get started, when we get there! :drunk:

    Now your Story is better....

    SEX, SIGHTS, etc.. :nworthy:

Yes, I'd have to say stepping of the flight bridge into the airport and hearing the slot machines ding ding ding....pretty cool indeed. Then making that first trip down the strip and seeing how huge everything really is!

The smell of the MGM Grand foyer in 1995....I was 5 years old and will never forget that smell and perhaps the first mental glimpse into my future degenerate life.

We have VP/slot machines all over the place here, they are in almost every single bar so those are not a fascination to me so much but i do think it will be overwhelming either way.

I am already dreaming of our first night, i am hoping to get delivery from Vonn's if i can figure out how to get it to a hotel with no cell phone and not knowing the room # till we get there so if we can get that we will have to stay there till it is delivered.

My tentative plan is to just check out the hotel (MB) and see if we are up to going on the strip or if we just want to stick to the hotel for the evening.

    (1) Hitting a royal flush in the airport 5 minutes after the plane landed on my first $20

    (2) Finding out that Hooker I thought was a girl was actually a guy before we got on the elevator!

    (3) First time I met a "toothless Hooker" at the old Western

    (4) Riding the elevator down to the Casino where I am staying after a long flight, and knowing I can do anything I want to anytime I want to for the next few days. And the elevator doors open and you hear the sounds of a hopping casino, and it's on!

I've never been completely overwhelmed. I'm not one to get super excited. I seriously wonder what my reaction would be if I were to hit like a 50k+ slot jackpot. So I'm going with 3 first moments at specific attractions/things.

    1) The first flight I took into Vegas in my modern Vegas tripping I got to fly in seeing the strip. I've never repeated it because apparently the wind was going in the perfect direction for me that time and it has never happened again. I think I'd enjoy it more now since I know the scale of the buildings.

    2) I love the experience of just getting off the plane in Vegas. It is part relief that I'm finally here, part excitement that I'm finally here again, part 5 other things I'm sure. It just never gets old. This is still amazing to me because I'm surrounded by hundreds of people that are just 100% depressed that they are leaving, but I can completely ignore that. :)

    3) Seeing the Bellagio fountains to me just never gets old. It was amazing the first time I saw it, and I still love seeing it multiple times each trip. It is simply water, music and an amazing view. No need for explosions, no hot chicks dancing, no amazing actors. There is no other free attraction in Vegas that I visit more often. The only one that is even in the same ballpark is the conservatory inside the same hotel. While I get bored watching more than 30 seconds of it in any video someone creates, I can watch this 10 times while I'm there and never get bored.

None of those are wow moments. They are simply moments that I had the first time I experienced them and are the few that keep the same level of excitement for me 20+ trips later.

I am going to "second" Numeno's comment about the Bellagio Fountains. When you hear that water "boom" and the music start to play you just kind of stop dead in your tracks and a shiver goes down your spine and you are just kind of hypnotized watching and listening too it.

I don't remember my first wow moment, but I remember by parents-in-law. We finally arrived at the Barbary Coast at 12:30 a.m. two hours late. The cab took us up Paradise road and you don't really see anything when it pulls over to the hotel entrance on Flamingo. Going inside and to the hotel lobby (which is smaller than most coat checks) they were seriously underwhelmed. The only thing they knew is that the hotel room was $35 a night and basically dismissed it with "As long as it's clean....".

Up the elevator and down the hall, we did arrange for them to have a south-facing room towards the Boulevard. So after the extra long trip, the underwhelming lobby and the price, they opened the door to a 400+ square foot room with a window that looked dead on at the Paris balloon sign in all its neon blue glory. My mother-in-law let out a little scream and said "$35? We paid $200 a night in Washington for half this size!"

Damn I miss the Barbary Coast.

Damn, SC. Is this really your first time? You've been on the board a while. You are going to be so prepared it isn't even funny! What I wouldn't give to have had your Vegas knowledge on my first trip. :nworthy: That is fantastic!

    (Sorry, I can't help with your Vonn's query, though.)

Make it four...the fountains never get old!

My first moment of Vegas is in 2008, we were delayed by about 2 hours in our arrival and after getting to the Desert Rose, my wife was tired and went to bed, I was so wired and awake I couldn't sleep so I headed off out and ended up in NYNY for a few beers, I will never forget the view as I came down the escalator and looked over the casino.

Our first trip in 2000. 6 high school buddies that played golf together went as we all turned 21 within a few months of each other. Playing blackjack in a real casino, and the old coin dropping slots. Miss those days

Yup! I am a planner, we bought our vehicle in may last year and that is when the bug was put in ear. I booked our flights in July.

I will be really prepared, that is how i like to be though. I can not go into the unknown, i can go into full out panic mode if that happens.

I do have an itinerary, one that can be changed though. I fully expect everything to change depending how we feel that day lol.

I talked to Vonn's, they do not need to call me first, so that is a relief.

My first trip was in 1965. My wife and I stayed at the Sahara. Walked in the front door and the casino was laid out before us. I'm not sure if either of us moved another inch for a good 30 seconds. I think I said something like, "I don't believe this." We made very slow progress going to the check-in, trying to comprehend what we were seeing. Does the phrase "Shit eating grin" help you visualize our faces?

Don't laugh. It doesn't take much to impress me.

First time I saw the light show under the Fremont Canopy. It was an old show, airplanes or something shooting down that long canopy. I freaked out....it was awesome...

First time I won 50 dollars in nickels in a coin slot machine at the old Fitz. My cup runneth over. I thought I was the luckiest person in the world....:woohoo:

First time I gazed into the eyes of the most beautiful CW I've ever seen. She smiled and asked if I wanted something to drink. I almost :faint::faint::faint:...

My wifes wow moment. It actually took Eight hours but was pretty wow. My wifes first time in Vegas and first time in any casino. Get off the plane, cab to Paris and head straight to the craps table no check-in no grab a bite to eat. Cash in for $600 and tell my wife to do what I do except when I toss chips into the middle for sucker bets. Eight hours later we color and cash for almost $6500.
Check-in and head to the room. I'm drunk and need to sleep but the wife wants to "talk about it". She is laying on the bed next to me counting the money again and she says what are we going to do with the money. Half asleep but without missing a beat I reply..................lose it tomorrow.

I'm a full on ocd trip planner. I have to know what I'm doing. Had a big list on my first trip to vegas. landed late at night and went out for a quick bite to eat - didn't get back to the hotel room til 9am. Day one plan shot to pieces. similar happened on day two.

by the end of the trip i'd done next to nothing on the list because I was having way too much fun letting it happen!
Trip two followed a similar pattern.

now I try to organize a couple of things over the trip and let the rest just happen. That came as a shock to me.. i'm heading out next week for 6 nights. I have nothing confirmed in the whole 6 days except for a time to meet a friend of mine who is driving in. Even that might change...

    I love it.

Still OCD on the rest of my trip though...

Seeing those beautiful desert mountains for the first time and the 'smell' of Las Vegas. I'm kinda weird, I guess, but every place i've ever traveled or lived has always smelled different and I can still remember the smell of it. And even in Ohio I might smell something that reminds me of the Monte Carlo or Bellagio. I hope my snout never goes bad!!

And the first time seeing the fountains and hearing how loud they were when the water cannons went off.

Sigh...May can't get hear fast enough.

Similar here. I research vacations to death and did the same with Vegas. Realized Vegas is the only place where I can never follow through with the plans other than picking out a show or a dinner. Probably one of the draws for me because I've gotten to the point where I catch up on new things in Vegas and pick a couple things to do for the trip ahead of time, and then let it roll once we land.

Going to an island? I can plan that thing down to the minute if I have a need or want. Vegas? I can try, but I know darn well I'm not getting much accomplished.
