I posted this on another board but I'm new to this board so shall post here.

We recently returned from our annual Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas and decided to spend a couple of nights at the Downtown Grand. We hadn’t gambled there before to speak of so we were starting fresh in terms of points and comps. We booked two non-weekend nights in a Premium room for $222 (after taxes).

We arrived with a rental car and knew there was self park somewhere but kept circling the block, looking to the left and not seeing the parking complex on the right – duh. We ended up using the valet. The self park does require a quick j-walk across the street.

Check-in was quick on a Sunday afternoon. We took advantage of their current deal of matching any other casino’s room offer – so we got one night free which brought our two nights down to $111. I believe this offer ends in April. We were assigned to room #1043 in the tower across the walkway. Some people have exaggerated the hassle factor of getting to this other tower but quite honestly, it takes an extra 30 seconds. No bother at all for us to go up an escalator, walk a short hallway and be presented with a bank of elevators. The elevators were always quick.

Our Premium (corner) room was lovely. It still smells fresh and new. I personally like the colour scheme although I’m not sure how long a primarily white carpet is going to survive but that’s not my problem. I’ll let my photos tell the story of the room but aside from the obvious, the two things I did enjoy from the annoying “resort/experience” fee were the two daily bottled water and the wifi. Unlike normal hotel wifi, this wifi is not capped at one device (we carry 4 devices when we travel) and doesn’t require authentication/logging on. The wifi also works anywhere on the property including in the casino and in the various restaurants. Very handy if you are Canadian like us and don’t have a roaming package on your cell phones. We had no real noise issues but did use the supplied ear plugs to be safe as we overlooked the biker bar.

The bathroom was lovely, dual sinks, plenty of room, and a privacy divider for the toilet. However, as those before us have noted on other review sites, there is an annoying flaw in the shower stall. The shower/tub is enclosed with a half glass wall which leaves a lot of room for water spillage on to the marble floor. It also means you need to do a bit of stretching to access the shower controls. It may look good, but when you go to use it you quickly become peeved.

The room cleaning was great. We ran into the cleaning lady during the day and she was super friendly. I go through lots of shampoo/condition and she got the hint and left me extras. I guess we tipped enough

On the gambling floor, we partook in various slots including video poker and it’s still not the greatest odds for those who like VP. We played some Three Card Poker, Pai Gow and Blackjack (3/2 with surrender) and one of us was up, one down. But overall, we enjoyed our time as the dealers were enjoyable. “B” in particular was a kick on the Blackjack table. We’d already signed up for the player’s card in December and we each earned the expected $3 at that time. Drink service was appropriate, nothing good or bad. Perhaps better on the slot floor.

We at Pizza Rock for lunch and really, really enjoyed it. We shared a Pizza Margherita and it had perfect “leoparding”. [IMG]

We had dinner one evening in the Commissary which was a wee bit confusing to order but the food was excellent. And each morning I enjoyed an awesome, awesome latte at the Commissary although I hate the fact that they’ve paired it with Krispy Kreme donuts instead of a higher end product such as fresh croissants.

Check-out went smoothly. The valet boys were super friendly while we waited 3 minutes for our car (we didn’t bother with the texting thing).

All-in-all, we really enjoyed our stay and will likely be returning if the comps start coming in.

We stayed there 2 weeks ago and LOVED everything about it. Great hotel...decent casino...perfect downtown location. New discoveries: awesome burgers at The Commissary...downtown container park is great...don't miss The Laundry Room (secret bar that I can't tell you about!).

Yep unless you have long arms/flexibility you're stuck warming up the shower while standing in it, meh.

    Nice report though!

Thanks for the pictures! Where is the self parking and where is the entrance to the self park? I don't use valet much and would rather park my own car. I didn't even know there was a self park at the DTG other than the open area on the side of the hotel (not sure if it is self park though).

That carpet gives me a headache though, guess I won't be looking down when I'm in the room, lol.

Unfortunately if you go to Europe you will encounter hotels with this same set up. I think it's is supposed to be the "deco" style but I don't see the functionality of half a shower door IMHO. I eventually just put a towel on the floor and faced the shower nozzle towards the wall.

The self park is directly south across Ogden. Take your ticket to Guest Services for a sticker to cover the barcode. Make sure they put it on straight or the machine won't read it on your way out.

Ah, I just checked google, there is a 4 story parking structure across from the DTG, next to that promenade that gets you to the FSE. Guess that is the self parking for the DTG. It looks relatively big.

    Offer Matching

We used an offer for two free nights at the Four Queens to get two free at the DTG in early February. I made the reservation directly over the phone and told them of my other offer. It was easy. I was surprises they didn't ask at check-in to seen the offer, which we had brought expecting to be asked. You still have to pay the $11 daily resort fee.

Stayed at Downtown Grand for four nights in Feb. The place is great and will stay again shortly. For the price and for what you get it is a no brainer.

Pizza Rock is awesome. Get the New Yorker pizza and meatball app. One of the best meals/pizza I have ever had. Ate there three nights in a row.

We had to bring in our paper offer and show it upon check-in. And then they kept the piece of paper. We phoned in advance to see what they were going to expect. They definitely asked us for the paper proof.

    Italy

Most of the hotels we had in Italy had this type of shower set up. I got used to it.

Ug....this is something I don't want to think about. They either have specialty brushes, get in the shower and scrub it, or they don't clean.......I don't want to think about option 3.
