Independent Host Aria/Cosmo taken advantage of?

Quick run down...

I was introduced to my independent host last year by my friend that plays very large. Straight off in the beginning, I told her I only expect to bring $5-6k for the weekend. Everything was fine up about 4-5 trips.. she expected me to play $160-200 to in order for her to comp my regular deluxe room at Aria.

My play when I'm in a regular room was $170-$190 for the first two trips. Now it's $250-275 avg Blackjack / 4 hrs per day for the past 3 trips.

*Excluding the discussion of play for suite* when I have a suite I bring a bigger bank roll and play bigger than previously said.

Now she expects me to play very close to $280-300 avg for 4 hours to get comp for even a regular room. What's fishy to me is she told me MGM is expecting more and more, but in Dec there was no mention of this. Is it because I said I'm going to bring $10k for the weekend?

I have plenty of play at Aria as well as a marker. The casino knows my play.

Does this seem right, all of a sudden a big increase in expectation?

 

Your play should be the standard at Cosmo and aria for free basic rooms.

Does the independent host offer u much more than the property specific?

Last time I racked up $1500 in charges food/show tickets. She took care of half.

 

I'm no Aria expert, nor am I a comp expert. But I do play at a similarly positioned casino (Wynn) and I know what I get there. And $300/hand sounds very steep for a standard room at Aria (assuming no upfront food and beverage or free play).

If you don't mind my asking...

1. Don't you have any offers from Aria/Milf for comped rooms? I would think that if you've been playing at $200/hand and have a line of credit, you'd have some offers for free rooms. If not...

2. Why not just contact an Aria host? No one is going to offer you a Sky Suite and full RFB for that play, but I'd sure think that an upfront standard room would be a given.

I'm not sure if u could get 750 in backend comps with an aria or Cosmo host at 150-200. For a weekend stay. Maybe if u played a lot of hours.

But 750 off the back end while keeping ur express comp seems to be a good deal at that level.

That $750 off the back end was with $264 play for 4.5 hours a day. She used some of my EC, to what extent, not sure. I just remembered at day one I had $29.XX and end of the trip/now it's $0.53

 

Very interesting--I would have to agree, you would not get that much food and bev picked up at that level with a regular aria host--unless a ton of it was ECs you had sitting in your account.

 

I guess I'll give her one more trip to see what she can do.

So far it's just upfront comp on room and discounted rate on second room. No extras..

 

Quick calc

264 x 60 x 4.5 x .01 = 713
713 theo x 0.4 = 285 a day in comps.

Let's call the room 200 a night. So that leaves 85/ day food

I'm sure with casino marketing/mailers u can get 2-3 nights free at Cosmo. With some fp and fb. Host can do a little more fb.

Aria I get crap for casino marketing, but a host can get rooms and some fb.

I agree with those calculations. But, the OP got $750 in food and bev, so he got a great deal in terms of comps.

 

The only thing I would quibble with would be the hands/hour. No one betting $264/hand is only playing 60 hands/hour unless they're taking a bathroom break every 5 minutes. (Of course, no one betting $264/hand should be giving up 1% in HA either...)

Regardless, I'll agree that the room + $720 ($750-$30 in previous EC's) was, at worst, fair; more likely, quite generous.

 

I've never been able to find the exact formula, I've just back calculated from my own experience

Ditto. No clue, actually. I didn't mean to disagree with you - my comp experiences have been pretty much as you described in your equations...but there isn't any way I'm actually only playing 60 hands/hour.

 

Exactly, on a 2-3 player table we can go through 3 shoes an hr (six decks)

Something seems out of whack.

Having $750 comped back end seems way high.

Having to play $250 a hand for a standard room also sounds way high.

Also, you describe your trips as "weekend" but you don't say how many nights you're staying and days you're actually playing (ie. staying two nights and playing 4 hrs on three days is much different than staying two and playing two).

The thing that stands out is her saying that MGM's expecting you to play twice as much now for the same room. That's fishy.

 

Cosmo is expecting 200 to 250 a hand for

 

First of all, I never tell my host how much I'm bringing. I wire my money, she looks my account, nothing is ever said. A host should not discuss your bankroll, unless you have a major change in play. I guess my host and I have an understanding, she told me once "I never have to worry about your play". After this one conversation about 3 years ago nothing is ever said. This could be due to the fact that I have increased my bankroll every trip over the last three years.

In my opinion I would never have a host that bug me about my play level unless my play level changed for the negative.

 

Weekend is typically Two nights, Three day trips.

I definitely play way more than 60 hands per hour.

That's the only thing fishy, the sudden increase after she asked me my bankroll the 4th trip booked through her.
