Well got some replies to my questions but asked same questions on Florida living and got way more answers seems Floridians are a bit more or maybe lot more friendlier than Vegas peeps so but I still like the Vegas style action things to do and especially fact that there's tons of available women and good weather no bugs close to cal we,ll see

Good luck as I am planning a possible move to Las Vegas within the next 1.5 months from SW Pennsylvania. I have a recruiter working with me looking at employment options, which he said is good for me since I am in the property management industry and can work in Hotels, Hospitals and Commercial businesses. As for Florida been there and done that for 3.5 years and moved because they do not pay anything near what you would find in other parts of the country. Pay scale and benefits for anyone other than a doctor, lawyer or drug dealer is piss poor.

My wife and I are discussing (arguing) Fl vs Vegas all the time. She likes Fl I love Vegas. South Fl has better weather in Jan and Feb otherwise the weather is way too hot and HUMID for me. I can survive 120 in Vegas but not 100 in Fl both are too hot.

Just me again talking about things I know little (or nothing) about.

I enjoy visiting both Florida and Vegas but would not want to live in either place. Southwest Florida would be my choice if I had to choose.

If one is moving for retirement instead of work -- meaning more flexibility -- it makes sense to check out a place or places across the calendar. Vegas heat might seem kinda novel for four days in August when the casino is paying to blast all that cool cool air, as would the first day or two of snow to someone who moved to a colder clime after a lifetime in San Diego.

    Then, often, reality sets in.

    Good luck in your decision!!

Tom ,I've lived in SW Fl for 20+ years now (Naples/Ft.Myers) and have never seen or noticed 100 degrees..It's always 94-95-96 in late summer..Humid yes..
I'm from NJ and remember how bad August summers can be 105 and so humid the sun is just a dot..Much worse..

I have gotten so used to the humidity here and now when I got to LV I need to buy lip balm here or at the gift shops there..Cracked lips and scratchy legs cause of the change..

I hear we were the warmest place in the country yesterday or day before, happens every year around this time..

Only problem is some pretty violent thunderstorms in late summer and the Tropical storm/hurricane threats..Surge protectors are a must and most homeowners have portable generators and we all stock up on batteries etc in summer.

I always thought I would like to live in LV eventually, but the more I see the off-strip (Henderson last trip) and how the area can't even handle a rainstorm well, watching the news of traffic problems etc..I just don't know?

OR ... you could live in northern Illinois, where we have had 59 inches of snow so far this winter ... with more to come.

I lived in South Florida (30 miles north of West Palm Beach) for almost 30 years -

You better enjoy a lot of heat and humidity - because there is barely any relief from either - anytime of the year.
Get used to no seasons whatsoever - oh...wait a minute - we do have hurricane season that lasts from June to October.
The traffic - especially when the snowbirds are here - is incredible!
Florida doesn't have a state tax - and since it doesn't - there are no services for the elderly. needy, etc. In other words, don't come to Florida "needing" anything other than a tan!
We do have plenty of water and "ocean view" - unfortunately, I am NOT an ocean person and, even though it's a mile away - I haven't been there in over 10 years!!!

Five more years till retirement - and I'll be heading west to Vegas!!!

I've been living in FL for 24 years. What the earlier poster said about FL wages is largely true. I thank the good lord I have a good union job where raises are contracted for because when I was in the corporate sector 3% productivity raises on 10.00 wages were not much to live on and I was making the higher end of hourly wages at that company.

I am going to be working out of LAS starting in March and may possibly be moving there permanently if I cant get my right of return to Orlando by May.

If I like it....I may give up on coming to Orlando completely and just stay there. It'd be nice to be only an hour flight away from San Diego and LA and take a little day trip or overnight jaunt that way. To get to Vegas or LA now requires an almost 5 hour flight.

Ughhhhhh Florida, no thanks. Too humid for me. I have relatives in Jacksonville and Sarasota and have spent considerable time in each. What the heck is with the grass in Florida, it's like thick blades of plastic. I'll take Vegas.

I'm currently in Florida.. nice not to deal with snow after 12 years in the north east. not sure it'll be forever but for now its fine until the kids are through school.. I'm hoping to be in a position not to need a job then.....

then I can try a few other places!!

Ya that's the area my sister lives in (Estero). They are in one of those retirement communities. Constant activities, get togethers, shows, and craft fairs. Complete with shuffleboard! To them it's Paradise but to me that's hell! I'm 63 not ready to join them maybe in 20 years.

I'm sure there are other areas down there I would like much better.

This pretty much sums up why I have no interest in Florida retirement. My grandparents and now my gf's dad chose south Fla. as their ultimate destinations. Upon visiting I have no clue why. For whatever reason my body shuns humidity but sheds high temps. I have been in LV in the highest of temps and spend a lot of time outdoors, I cant do that in high humidity. To each his own I guess, its West for this guy in 9 years!!

Small world Tom,I've lived in Estero all these years..though I'm not retired I live in a community with a par 3 golf course and pool, shuffleboard and lots of seasonal snowbirds..If your sister's address includes Fountain Lakes Blvd we live in the same nice community.
