    My Trip Report

It has been a while since I have written a Trip Report so hopefully I can still write something that is maybe a little entertaining and possibly informative. Maybe not so much on the informative part but we will see. The trip was a 4 night trip with my family for the superbowl. Unforunately my wife was not able to make it as she is prepping for some big stuff coming up at work for the next 2-3 months. I would be leaving from Houston – George Bush Intercontinental on Thursday at 10:20 PM on the spirit airlines flight, arriving in Vegas at 11:30 PM, my uncle and his wife would already be there on Wednesday, and then my mom, sister and my sister’s boyfriend would arrive Friday mid-morning. So, let’s get this TR started.

My wife and I moved to Houston last year and my company that I was employed at in Memphis just lets me work remotely from Home which is an amazing perk, especially in a big city, but when you work from home and your leaving for Vegas that day, absolutely nothing gets done. Thankfully, no server’s went down, and the IT world was calm which allowed me a plethora of Vegas browsing time. I was already “leaving early” to pack my bags for the trip at 4:00 in the afternoon, and then headed to the gym for some Olympic lifting one last time before I murdered my body in vegas. I got back home from the gym at 6:15, downed one of my amazing chocolate protein, banana, peanut butter with a little honey shake, grabbed a shower and by 7:30 the car company was here to pick me up. Normally my wife would take me the airport, but she’s still working so it was just me and the driver. Somehow I even remembered to wear my wedding ring. I never wear it when I’m at home all day, so I usually end up forgetting it when I go out of the house, but I digress.

I made it to the airport by 8:00, dropped my bag off at the spirit bag check and proceeded through the non-existent security lines. Through security in 5 minutes and I now have about 2 hours to do whatever I want to do, and I think we all know what that is for now. There is a Chillis right across from security, so I head there and over the next 1.5 hours down a couple beers, and a few jack and cokes.
I also had a nice chat with a few people around me at the bar that are also on their way to Vegas. I finished my last jack and coke and headed to the gate only to find that the inbound flight from Vegas was delayed which also happens to be our outbound flight lol. However, not to worry there was another bar across from that gate where I proceeded to down 3 Jack n Pepsi’s (they were out of coke and I didn’t care). 45 minutes later it was time to board and we were on our way to vegas!

About 30 minutes after we took off, one of the oxygen mask compartments over the galley area in the front of the plane popped open.
The flight attendants were checking it out and I was starting to get worried that this was going to be an item on the MEL and we were going to have to turn around but thankfully it was not and the flight attendants even took a few pictures of it / with it which I thought was a little strange but whatever. A few minutes later they started serving drinks and I got their special for $13 which was 2 liquors of your choice and a mixer, I also realized I had consumed quite a bit of alcohol by this point and all I had in my stomach was a protein shake and booze so I got a bag of combos from them as well. I sat back with my rum and cokes that I ordered and started watching Last Vegas that I had downloaded to my phone the night before. Pretty decent movie, but I think Hangover is still my all time favorite. Another hour or so into the flight and I finished off my two rum and cokes and figured I might as well get another drink and maybe even an engery drink. I was starting to feel a little worn out and I wouldn’t stand for it! Unfortunately, apparently everyone on the plane drank all the booze. All they had left was 2 bottles of Dewar’s and a few bottles of Vodka. I don’t do Vodka due to an unfortunate 21’st birth party experience for me, so I chose the 2 dewars. I asked for a 5 hour engery which they said they had in their menu but they were out of that too. Oh well.

1.5 uneventful hours later and we are touching down in Vegas!
Came down those sweet escalators to the site of baggage claim, grabbed my bag, out to the taxi line and Away to the Flamingo! Arrived at the flamingo at 12:40 AM, gave the taxi driver $20 for a $12 fare and proceeded to check in. I had a Fab Deluxe room on the 21’st floor (room 21127 to be exact) and it had a view of the Linq.
The room was decent, remodled, but you could still tell it was old There was an electrical outlet in the floor by the window that was missing half of its cover, the sink in the bathroom was pretty low and it looked like they just put the sink countertop over the old one maybe. I’m a tall person (6’5”) and the bathroom just felt really small to me. The shower was fairly small as well, but overall, for free it was good.

I left my bags in the room and headed down to the casino to get the party started. I started out at a $25 3:2 table ( be careful because they snuck 1-2 $15 or $25 6:5 tables in with the $25 and $50 3:2 tables). Bought in for $300 and basically lost that in a hour, I just couldn’t hit any breaks and really $300 was to low to buy into a $25 table with if you want to hang around a while, but I didn’t want to put that much money out just yet. Was waiting to do the gambling thing on Friday/Sat/Sunday. I had no remarkable hands to speak of at this blackjack table other than a few good saves with $75 out there but the dealer was just brutal. Everytime she had an ace she had a 10 underneath that. I had enough of that and headed over to Bugsy’s bar to play some DDB poker. Pay tables were 8/5, but I really just wanted some drinks and to people watch. I did get super close to a royal flush though..and sadly this would happen another 3-4 times on the trip..I would get 3 or 4 cards on the first draw needed for royal, and that last card would never come though. Oh well :(
    [IMG]

I played for a quite while but eventually decided to head back to the room..it was 3:30 AM vegas time, 5:30 Am my time, but I did make a quick stop at johnny rockets and devoured a bacon cheeseburger and chilli cheese fries before heading back to the room. Made it back to the room (thanks to me taking a picture of my room number) and quickly crashed, only to be waken up 45 minutes by this loud rumbling noise.

    Part 2 to follow.

Great start and look forward to reading the next part, taking a picture of your room number is actually a good idea, I have never lost a room but I think I will do that next time just in case.

    Thanks for the report!

When we stayed at The Flamingo I had never seen so many four-to-the-royal as I did there and not a single one worked out for me

    Part 2:

So I’m trying to figure out what this loud rumbling and then I realize it is coming from within. Apparently eating clean (no processed foods etc) for months on end then ending that with a ton of beer, liquor and chilli cheese fries was a wakeup call to my system. Crisis averted…for now.

Woke up a few hours later and managed to crawl out of bed around 9:30 AM or so. Grabbed a quick shower and met my uncle downstairs. My mom, sister and sister’s boyfriend were getting in at 10:30 and 10:50 so we headed to the airport to pick them up. Nothing to really report on there other than we picked them up and got back to the hotel and got them checked in. Snagged a few Seattle and Bronco cookies that they had in the diamond lounge. The other rooms weren’t available just yet so we all went to the mirage and ate the buffet for lunch. Wasn’t amazing, but at the same time it was not terrible..I’d go back again. They also gave us a bunch of 2 for 1 coupons to come back with for the rest of the trip. We only came back to the mirage buffet once, but for 4 people it only cost us something like $40, so pretty good deal there.
Now at this point, everyone separated and we did our own thing. My sister and her boyfriend don’t gamble, but my mom and I will, so we head over to a craps table there at the mirage and buy in for a few hundred. I buy in for $400 and my mom for $500. We both play the dark side of the table and basically broke even, maybe even up a hundred or so. Nothing to really speak off other than the dealers were super friendly and the table wasn't packed which was nice. Played for probably an hour there and decided head back to the flamingo as a few of us were going to the blue man group tonight. We cashed out our chips and I was walking past a roulette table and saw that the numbers 31,21 had hit about 2-3 times in the last 10 rolls. I've always put $100 on a roulette table and spread out $25 chips on 4 numbers, and each time I've done that, I’ve walked away without that $100. So I try it again. Put down $100, tell the dealer I want 4 quarters and put $25 each on 7, 12, 21 and 31. Dealer spins the wheel and BOOM BABY! 21!! Nice $875 payout! So now I've recouped the $400 I lost the previous night and am now up $425. I tipped the dealer $50 and cashed that out. I wanted to take a picture but was too excited and forgot.

We proceeded back to the Flamingo to meet up with my sister and her BF and make a plan to leave the flamingo by 5:30 to make to the box office for blue man by 6:00. I head back downstairs and go play some craps again, but I just can’t get anything to happen. Started out on the don’t pass @ $25, point would be 4, I put out $150 odds and 3 rolls later guy would hit the 4..ouch. Tried it again..point is 9..$150 odds, 7 rolls later, he hits the point. Son of a bitch! Alright…I’m going to do something I never do and I’m going to bet pass line. $25 on the pass line, point is 8, put full odds on that and next roll is a 7 out. F this, I quit. I went and found a 9/5 DDB machine and played that for another hour or so then headed back to the room to get ready for the show tonight.

Quick shower, met up with everyone and started our walk to the blue man group. Got to the box office and got all the tickets we needed. Apparently at 7:00 part of the blue man group does a parade progression through the Monte Carlo. Pretty cool thing to watch and even if you’re not going to the show, you might as well swing into the monte carlo to watch it. Lasts for about 10 minutes or so. Overall, the show was pretty good. I can’t say I would go see it again, I think I would rather watch a cirque du soleil show, but it was fun though. We had pretty good seats, about 6 rows from the front. Before the show starts they fly these eyeball looking things around the crowd:
The show ended around 9:00 and everyone else was tired and headed back to the flamingo, but for me, the night was young and just beginning! Besides, I think it’s some sort of crime if you go to sleep in vegas before 11:00 PM. The only valid excuse to be asleep by 11:00 PM in vegas is if you passed out lol. Anyway, I stayed behind and bought in at a mini-bac table for $300. Now my baccarat strategy is to watch a table for a while and see if the person playing is on a roll or not. I watched this Asian guy for about 10 minutes and he won probably 3-4 hands would lose 1 and then win another 2-3. I played with him for about 1.5 hours or so varying between $25-$100 / hand and ended up cashing out up 500. Nice little win. Decided to go ahead and head back to the flamingo and give them some play. Bought into a $50 double deck 3:2 BJ pitch game where I was the only player. Managed to hang in for about an hour or so, but could never hit a streak and lost my $500 buy in. Walked over to the margaritaville casino side and played some craps there for 45 minutes but nothing was happening there either for me. Closed out the night by playing DDB again for a while and once again, I got a hand and was 1 card shy of a royal flush, but nothing came through for me. Was back in the room by 1:30 Am that night.

Saturday morning we all met over at The Quad to eat at Hash House. My first time there and it was pretty good food. I got one of their Indiana specials which was Mashed potatoes, Meatloaf and over easy eggs. We also got a pancake that we split and am glad we did as the pancake was massive! Would definitely come back again.
I also have to say that the Quad actually looks nice inside. The last time I was in there it was the Imperial palace and was just run down looking to me, but now it’s all nice, pretty and clean in there. Huge difference.

After breakfast, myself and my sister’s boyfriend went over to machine gun vegas and shot their SAS package which let you shoot the M249 SAW, a .223 sniper rifle, HK MP6, and Glock 17. Glock 17 I wasn’t so excited about as I own a S&W 9mm and my wife carries a glock so I’ve shot those before, but the MP6 and the M249 were bad ass! Would definitely recommend doing this. Also for $750 you can shoot one of their mini guns. This is supposedly one of the guns you see being fired off the speed boats in act of valor. I did not partake in this was $750 seemed a little crazy to fire a minigun and I wasn’t that far ahead in gambling lol.

We headed back to the Flamingo and all of us decided to head over to margaritaville for some margaritas and to try out those volcano nachos everyone kept talking about. Margaritas were good and the nachos were good, but I wasn’t blown away by them. I’m still looking for the best nachos on the strip. We finished up at margaritaville and once again, everyone pretty much split up to do their own thing only thing that was planned was for us to meet up at The Quad that night to see the recycled percussionist show. The show was fairly decent and had a lot of audience participation where you had certain pots and pans you would bang on with a drumstick. These guys are still up and coming and so they come out quite a bit and will interact with you, and sign basically whatever you want at the end.
After the show was over, we all walked over to Planet Hollywood and put our name on the list for the Gordon Ramsay Burger place. It was a 1.5 hour wait for a party of 5. A few of us decided to stick around and wait and my sister and her BF took off as they didn’t want to wait that long. I started wandering around for about 10 minutes and was about to sit down at a BJ table to play some when I got a text message saying our table was ready. Sweet! That was only a 20 minute wait compared to the 1.5 hours they told us. We started off with their chicken wings and the bacon and cheddar jalapeno poppers. Both of these were amazing. For the burger, I ordered their hells kitchen burger which was grilled jalapeno, avocado and tomato:

Amazing burger cooked medium per the recommendation of the kitchen. Will definitely come back here again.
It was now 10:00 and everyone had once again gone back to the rooms to sleep, but not me! I went back to the flaming andended up playing some mini baccarat but the shoe was just way to choppy and couldn’t get anything going. Didn’t lose to big but sure didn’t win anything either. I don’t know what it was with the Flamingo but this would be a theme throughout the trip..I could not win at this casino to save my life. I lost at craps, I lost at blackjack, I lost at baccarat..I mean I even lost at video poker. The best video poker I played on was at the margaritaville casino and it kept me alive for a while with a few 4 5’s and 4 10’s hits that brought be up from $30 to $230. I was playing this at 2:00 AM Sunday morning and played it down to $100 before cashing out so I could at least say I won something. Went to bed around 3:00 AM and slept through till 10:00 Am this time. For breakfast I had 2 scoops of pistachio gelato from the pizza/ice cream place there by the habitat / elevator area at flamingo lol.

It’s now SuperBowl Sunday and time for the big game baby! I have done no gambling at all since I woke at 10:00 AM. My uncle talked to a host of his at the LVH and got us all into their superbowl party in the ballroom. We showed up there at noon and I went in line to place my bets and some other bets for the rest of the party. Line wasn’t to bad to get the windows, and I ended up waiting about 30-40 minutes to be able to place my bet.
There is 1 good bet in there and 1 terrible bet in there..I’ll let you decide which one was which. When the game started I was happy at first when the first play was a safety but after it was a quick 3 and out I started getting this sinking feeling in my stomach, then the score by seattle, interception, score, interception..oh my god this is terrible. I still had some hope in the 3’rd quarter after Denver scored and got the 2 point conversion, but then when seattle scored again I knew it was definitely over. That was a shitty day. But I guess it is what it is. We left the party at the start of the 4’th quarter. So after the game was over we were done for the day / night basically and went back to the room. I counted my money..I had brought $6,000 and was basically sitting at $4,500 now. Not to bad considering the $1,350 loss on the game.

I took $1k out of that with me and walked over to the cosmopolitan. I had walked through there before but had never played any. I wanted to get some play in with them to see if maybe I can get a few room offers or at least discounted room offers. I walked around originally looking for a BJ table but was terribly surprised to see an alarming lack of 3:2 tables. The only 3:2 tables I saw started at $100 / hand and I only saw 1 table like that. The rest of the 3:2 tables were $500 tables, I saw a ton of $25, $50, $100 and even some $200 min BJ tables that had 6:5 blackjack…I could not believe it! Why in the world would you play $25 let alone $200 min BJ on a 6:5 table? I mean..there were people playing on these tables!! That was a WTF momen! I mean you can go to another casino and get $25 3:2 easy. Anyway I ended up not playing BJ there and found a craps table that I bought in for $400 and I did ok on this table playing the dark side. Played for about 1.5 hours and ended up being up $800. A funny story at this table: There was this Spanish guy next to be that bought in for $100 and was just playing $1 hardways for a while but when he would put his bets down he would say “2-2 3-3, 5-5” instead of saying hard 2, hard6 etc. Obvioulsly English was not something he really knew as he turned to me and asked me if I spoke espanol which I do not. Anyway, the dealers keep correcting him but he doesn’t understand, he also keeps holding his beer over the table and they keep correcting that as well. After a few warnings on the beer being over the table he finally understands that and keeps it behind the table. Ok so now for the funny part is there’s a guy before this Spanish guy that is throwing the dice and the Spanish guy is now playing $25 pass line and it’s going to be his turn to roll next after the current shooter seven's out. The Spanish guy starts sneezing, but when he would sneeze, he would turn around and sneeze into his hand and you could then see him wiping his hands on his pants, he did this probably 3 times or so and the the pit boss lady saw this and word for word said “Oh hell no he’s not rolling the dice..that’s disgusting.” She went and got a floor supervisor who brought over a dealer that spoke Spanish. Now I have no idea what was said but they seemed to agree about something and then the floor supervisor had the Spanish speaking dealer they brought over swap in for one of the base dealers. Now I’m not sure what happened, but there was one more roll, then the floor supervisor looked at the Spanish guy and said that’s it, you can’t play here anymore, color him up. No idea what happened, but was the first time I’ve seen someone backed off a craps table lol. Was very interesting.

Anwyay..that table started getting hot so I switched to another table and made another $300 there and then everyone left, so I went to another table that had a don’t bettor as well. We both did ok there but basically broke even. I decided to call it and went and played some VP at the book and stage for a hour. Ran $100 through the machine. At that time it was 2:30 Am so I went ahead and headed back to Flamingo to give them some more play. Bought into a $25 6 deck 3:2 BJ game with a couple guys for $500 and played for about 1.5 hours but ended up losing that, Bought in for $300 at a craps table playing don’t for $25 and lost that in 45 minutes, bought in for another $200 and played pass and lost that as well. And that was that. End of story, I’m done.

Still had around $3.5k or so left in my envelopes, but I wanted to at least bring some money back home so I don’t have to start from 0 for future trips. So overall it was a losing trip, but not terrible..oveverall, I’m done around $2k which would have been worse if it wasn’t for that $875 roulette hit, and some smaller $200-$300 wins here and there that I played with before dipping back into my money.

Got up the next morning and we had brunch at the mirage buffet again and then back to the airport. I caught my 4:40 PM flight back to Houston and that was uneventful. Back home now and time to figure out when I can get back to vegas!

    Some closing thoughts:
CET sucks..I can’t win there to save my life I’m hoping my play warranted some comps in the future.
I really enjoyed playing at the cosmo with the exception of their crappy BJ tables, I like the feel of the place and the classiness of it. That may have something to do with my wins at craps, but I’m hoping my play throught the VP machine and the 2-3 hours of $25 craps with $150 odds behind my bets 90% of the time will warrant an offer in the future. I’d really like to stay there.
Overall it was a fun trip with the family, but I gotta get my wife back there with me again..we seem to bring back more money when she swings by the tables to collect part of my winnings every now and then lol. I pretty much gave them all back this trip.

Awesome write up. Loved all the details.

Now if those wagers were just reversed
100 on the broncos and 1350 on the safety

It's takes a ton of time to put together such a report and it's appreciated

    Great TR.

I wouldn't expect any offers from the Cosmo, unfortunately. He pit boss there told me they'll start rating you at $50 pass line and they do not consider your odds when rating (No casino factors your odds afaik, as there is no HA)

You definitely did enough to warrant so,e CET comps though! Thanks for sharing

Yeah tell me about..I almost put some bets down on Seattle to score first and to be no score during the first half for dnever, but I was thinking nah..this is the #1 offense..there's going to be some points on the board.

Just didn't know it wasn't going to be denver points lol

And Canoe I was kind of afraid that, but was hoping maybe they did consider the odds. It's more of a I'm hoping that maybe they'll consider me for a future offer or something. When aria first opened they sent me a offer for 3 free nights + $150 free play, and my last trip to vegas before the Aria trip was at MGM Grand where I played $10-$15 BJ. So kind of hoping maybe cosmo tries to attract new customers and sends me something. Doubtful, but hopeful :)

+1 I'm a Jack and Coke drinker, but HATE Jack and Pepsi... which is weird cause, if it's just lunch and I order a plain Coke, I could care less if it's Pepsi... don't mind it a bit, but when combined with Jack, yuck.

Mighty dude I think it's likely that since you played minimal VP, you may get an offer from the "new" Identity program. They're trying to lure in those potential players like yourself. Good luck

It's such a good idea. I didn't know to do this, but thankfully my friend did. Not sure how I would have made it back to my bed if he hadn't!!

Awesome. Those are often the stories we remember (or not) for future vegas adventures. :)

rgerards...there wasn't that much 3:2 there this time. I was really really suprised to see $100 and even $200 6:5 BJ. Now I didn't go in the high limit rooms, but yeah, it was very suprising to see such terrible blackjack at that high of a minimum. When I went back to the flamingo to play BJ @ $25 and 3:2 I was talking to another guy and he said he saw $500 6:5 at bellagio. Now I can't verify that 100% it's just what I heard.

If casino's wouldn't get up in arms about pictures in the casino I would of taken a pic of the $100 and $200 6:5 tables.

I wonder if maybe they did this just for superbowl weekend? I know the last time I was in Vegas for last superbowl I stayed at the bellagio and there seemed to be more 3:2 than 6:5.

    Nice report, fellow Houston guy.

Good intel on Cosmo as I will be staying there the first two days of March Madness. At least I know I won't be playing any blackjack!
