Great character actor who appeared in many films, including several Paul Thomas Anderson Films. Initial reports indicate he died from a drug overdose.

A clip from his most "Vegas" themed film, Hard Eight.

Sad. Wonder how they will finish out The Hunger Games series, as he just entered as a main character with a lot of importance in the next installment.

What a shame !! Such a talented actor !! And, what is it with the entertainment industry, and their love of doing drugs, in this case possibly heroin. I guess with all their success, and fame & fortune, they must feel like they are immortal.

He was one of my favorite actors. :( I love him in almost everything. I think some of his roles like the ones in Boogie Nights, Magnolia, The Savages and Jack Goes Boating are WAAAAAY underrated. He is amazing in all of them. He has a depth to his character's pain that feels so real to me. Which might explain part of why he's no longer with us anymore.

Apparently heroin is the new drug of choice because it's so cheap, druggies who would typically buy a oxy for maybe $30 can get 5 "doses" of heroin for that price.

Hard 8 and Owning Mahoney are both very dark movies.

Owning Mahoney is a true classic, and has been on my laptop for at least the past few years. It's always a good watch on the way to Vegas if you want to "control" your gambling. :evillaugh

Hard 8 I just caught after he died. (its available free if you have Amazon Prime) He's only in the one scene and the rest of the movie is kind of weird. Good actors, but not as compelling a story as Owning Mahoney to me.

Yes, Hard 8 is not an uplifting movie, but it is very emblematic of Reno and intriguing in its own way. Gwyneth is not at her best but at least she is in it...

I was saddened to hear of his overdose.
    3 little kids.........ugh......
He was a really good actor.
    *
I took Oxycodone just yesterday --
( I have an RX for a bad back )
I shovelled snow ( by hand - all day ) and was
    in alot of physical pain.
But I don't "get it" ?......didn't give me much of a buzz....
    took ALOT of pain away.
Do these addicts take a dozen at a time ?
If they have to take a dozen at a time - at a price of
    $30 a pop..........no wonder heroin is cheaper.
    *
Now, mixing Phentalin (sp?) Fentalyn ( sp?) in the bag -
    is just CRAZY !
    *
I'll bet while he was in Rehab last year -
He never thought he could be dead in less than a year !
    Damn shame.

$30 a pop is the illegal price, that's why so many try to get "prescriptions" from doctors for various ailments(or get them from friends that have prescriptions) which might cost $15 for a whole bottle. Dosage is the big thing too, you prob had a low dose pill.
