Five years into the economic recovery, Nevadans’ personal finances have improved slightly but remain among the worst in the country, according to a new report released Thursday.

Some 55.6 percent of households statewide are “in a persistent state of financial insecurity,” with little or no savings to cover basic expenses in an emergency event such as a job loss or health crisis, according to the nonprofit Corporation for Enterprise Development.

Not earth-shattering news, but I feel a small obligation to post these kind of articles from the perspective of someone who lived there and moved out.

Many people consider Vegas, or NV the ideal place to retire and I don't knock that idea. I thought it was. :poke:

No commentary one way or the other, just posting for informational sake.

Thanks for the link Joe. These type of rankings are only marginally useful. As they pointed out you need to adjust for age and other demographics. On the other hand I have no problem believing NV will rank low no matter what you adjust for. Many many people seem to be just living day to day.

I did think the following statement was enlightening : "People with lower incomes tend to have less financial security.” well duh! Maybe we should spend a couple million studying that.

Yep! We traditionally find ourselves at the top of every "bad" list and the bottom of every "good" list! Bankruptcies, credit-card delinquencies, loan defaults, foreclosures, suicide rates... you name it we generally fight it out with Mississippi for last place. It's certainly an issue that other states should consider when they decide that gaming is the "golden goose" to drive revenue into shrinking coffers. Not everyone "only gambles what they afford to lose".

Biggest concern for Nevada won't be financial security, but lack of water.
