My wife and I just got back from a 4 day stay at MSS. We've been staying at MSS almost exclusively for years. I love MSS, but the last couple trips I've done way more gambling at Fremont than at MSS. We're planning our next trip and my wife is suggesting we stay at Fremont instead of MSS. I've never stayed at the Fremont, how do the rooms / hotel experience compare to MSS or the Cal?

    thanks in advance!

I've never stayed at MSS, but I've stayed at Fremont a LOT.
The rooms are comfortable, but modest. The bathrooms are quite small (not GG-small, but pretty small!).
I would not share a room at Fremont, but then - my wife never goes with me & my Vegas buddy always gets his own comped room - so we shoot for adjoining rooms.
If your wife has her own Boyd/bconnected account, then I would suggest each of you booking Fremont seperately - and then call a host or guest services & ask them to try give y'all adjoining rooms.
That way, you get the benefit of more space, two bathrooms & the freedom to share a bed or not!

I think this is a great idea. My wife won't stay at Fremont because of the small bathrooms. This might make her re-think staying there.

The MSS for sure. It is often first sold out for a reason! The fremont rooms are smaller, and the bathrooms can barely fit one person comfortably. MSS is a better atmosphere, rooms, casino, and all. It also has much higher ceilings, so is much less smokey than the fremont.

Rooms at the Fremont are smaller than MSS and the bathrooms are a lot smaller too. The Fremont bathroom is complete, containing the tub/shower, toilet and vanity but the shelf to hold your toiletries is very small, I was afraid of it dropping into the toilet so I eventually left my toiletries outside on the chest of drawers.

Another thing to note: you can only valet at the Fremont so expect to bring out some dollars to tip every time you go in or out. I rent a car so it would add up for me.

The fremont is very centrally located, one elevator opens up right on the casino floor. you get a cozy feeling with everything so close (unlike the MSS) to the FSE and other casinos. many people like it because of it's proximity to the FSE, you don't have to go very far to get to/from your room.

as others have mentioned, as a single the rooms are okay but might be a little small for 2 people.

I have stayed at both within the past couple years. The room finishing are very similar. The rooms at Fremont will be smaller, especially the bathroom.

If you do decide to stay at the Fremont, ask for a room that faces away from Binions or you will hear car horns all night as they honk at people crossing casino center blvd when the do not cross sign is lit.

Everything written above about the Fremont is true. If your wife would like to try it once, respond with the magic answer, "Yes, Dear" ... and stay there one trip, and make a personal decision for the next trip.

We are regulars at MSS, but we tried the Fremont once, and the California twice ... and went back to staying at MSS. Overall, all things considered, MSS is better for us.

If you stay at MSS, you can always play at the Fremont, and your play all goes into the same pot for that stay. If you then start getting offers from the Fremont, just talk to a host at MSS, and they can take your Fremont offer, and book it back at MSS.

Thanks for all the posts guys.

Well we've stayed at MSS over a dozen times in the last couple years, almost exclusively except for when we've stayed at Orleans or GC. We used to stay at Sahara and Riviera too, but started using Boyd exclusively when Sahara closed. My dear wife says she wants to try something closer to the action, but that's owned by Boyd. We've stayed at the Cal and she didn't care for it too much so Fremont was our next logical choice. I won't stray from Boyd Gaming properties because I have way too much invested in my Bconnected card lol.

I think I'll book the Fremont the first night and switch back to MSS for the rest of our trip.

If you're points are fairly high, I'd ask them if they'll upgrade you to one of their suites. They are exclusively reserved for rated players.
Hey - never any harm in asking, right?

I've heard about the reserved suites at MSS and Fremont before. What do they consider rated player lol?
I've never bothered asking cause I'm a low roller. I've only managed to get my card score as high as 12,000. I've gotten comp rooms at GC and Orleans lots of times, but with thousands of rooms they can afford to hand them to people like me lol.

I like both places. Fremont has a Dunkin' Donuts, which is a plus, but MSS has fridges in the rooms. It's a toss up, so long as I can get a room away from Fremont St. @ the Fremont.

No, I haven't noticed much, but then again, I usually get a room in the back. Plus, it helps that Casino Center Dr. is a lot quieter than those stages on 3rd St.!

So I should ask for a room facing the freeway?

At MSS I always request a room facing the plaza. I'd rather have train noise then the humming of cars lol. I think its only an issue on lower floors at MSS cause its so close to the freeway.

Actually IMHO the freeway noise is a problem for most of the rooms facing north at the MSS (sorry, not sure about the fremont).

I stayed at MSS the week of the CES almost 3 weeks ago (has it been that long already?). Unfortunately although I requested a south facing room when I made my reservation I checked in after 8 pm (was at the CES all day, then dinner) so they didn't have a south facing room available for me so I was placed in a northside upper floor room facing the freeway. They got me a room close to main st (I was hoping that the noise wouldn't be that bad since it was probably farthest away from the freeway) but the freeway noise was still pretty bad. Eventually I turned on the a/c - heater and that noise negated some of the freeway noise (but not all).

I could hear the trucks going over parts of the freeway and horns going off. Another reason why I rather stay at the Cal over the MSS. The a/c at the Cal is in the wall while at MSS the a/c is a unit at the window so it makes more noise at MSS.

I was "lucky" though, since I was attending the CES I was up early and back late so I wasn't in the room that much.

I know that many like staying at the MSS but I rather stay at the Cal. I didn't have a choice this past time, I couldn't stay all 10 nights at the Cal (they only allow a max 7 night stay at a time) so I split my stay between MSS and the Cal. I rented a car so the Fremont was out of the question (have to valet and tip so that adds a few bucks to the bill, plus you have to wait for valet to get the car).

I'd pick the MSS myself. I stayed at the Fremont in December and the room was really worn out. I wish Boyd Gaming could somehow shrink the new rooms at the Gold Coast (which is where I'm writing this) and cram them into the Fremont. I do love the casino and the Dunkin Donuts/Lanai Express/Tony Romas trifecta, though.

In my experience (this past week-end) I had a room on 3 at MSS. It is no quieter than rooms I've had on much higher floors in the past. It still sounds like a train is about to come right thru the room. The actual car traffic isn't bad at all but the sirens from ambulances are also equally loud up high or down low. With that said, a FREE room is always good. I've stayed there probably 10 times and its always noisy. Also they don't have draperies to totally shut out light. They have plantation shutters. That may make a difference if you want to stay asleep late.

I do love the new rooms at GC, not that the old ones are bad though. My wife loves Dunkin, that's part of why she wants us to stay there so much lol. I want to try it cause the rooms are so close to the casino and I love Fremont's craps.

I always worry that I'll get stuck with one of those rooms. To this day I've been lucky and have always gotten one facing Fremont. I can deal with the occasional train easily. I think we will try 4 at MSS and 2 at Fremont. I was there that same week! Didn't go to CES though :(
