I usually cash in a lot of chips and they ask for my ID or player club card.

How many chips can you cash in at one time at the different casinos without them asking?

Anything significant they are going to at least ask for a players card. Anything over 10k they'll definitely want your info. How many chips are you talking about???

They can ask for ID for any amount they want - though I don't know what is the usual trigger.

usualy around 2500 to 3000 triggers a players card .

but at small casinos it will be differnt.

ps you will have a problem cashing out large chips like 5,000 without id

Thanks this is what I was looking for. I usually cash in over 10k in chips so I know I'm used to handing over my ID or card even when they know me already.

What is it like at smaller casinos downtown or off-strip? How about low rolling casinos on the strip like Riviera and Stratosphere ?

For table games, it doesn't matter if they are asking for I.D/players card if you are worrying about tax purposes. They are just doing that to know where the chips came from.

The only time that they can get on you for taxes (which you can tell them to withhold it) is for instance you hit a 7 card straight flush in pai gow, royal in let it ride, etc. I forget what the payout for table games are for taxes but it's usually for the side bets (but I believe it's around 150/1).

Games like blackjack or baccarat you can win $100k or even $1 mill. They will ask for I.D when cashing out just so they know where the chips came from and they will fill out a form for you to sign but it is basically an even money game which you do not need to worry about.

Again, I presume you are worried about IRS reporting.

Btw, bellagio is where I usually get asked for my I.D/ players card. The cashier usually asks where I was playing etc and calls to find out if I've been playing there.

When I have cashed out 2-3k, they have not asked for ID or a players card. Like paperposter stated, if you cash out a white chip (5k), the will ask for ID. I remember when I cashed out 5k, they called the baccarat table to make sure I got it there. It took about 10 min. When I cashed out over 10k, they called the baccarat table across from the cashier then asked for ID and SS.

I never said 2-3k. But they do call and hold you up for payout at the cage for bigger amounts. I have gone with even 5k and they have asked where i was playing and got on the phone just to verify.

Last trip when i stayed at the B, I held my chips until the next day after playing to cash out (was about 8 or 9k) and they put me thru hoops to cash out.

Other times, they would ask where or what I was playing and call the pit directly. One time I actually had to go to the pit boss at the bj table directly around the corner from the cashier where i was playing to tell them to verify.

I wasn't asking for tax purposes. I wanted to know for staying under the radar if I dont want the casino to track my play. If I have to show my id it might link up with my player card but I dont always want that.

There are two separate reasons for the cage requesting a players card or id. First, they are completing their CTR (currency transaction report) reporting requirements. Second, they are verifying you obtained the chips legitimately. I know the floor personnel at several properties very well through my regular play. Just the other night, I colored up at a table and the floor person asked if I was done. I told her I was still thinking. She said she would wait to call surveillance, which relays the information to the cage until I was done. The cage will then call surveillance to verify. In vegas last trip, the floor person asked if I was going to cage, and I told her that I was going to hold onto the chips. She said I will let surveillance know. They track $1,000 and up chips at most casinos very closely. Even though they track $100 and $500 at the tables, most properties aren't as worried about tracking them around the property. This is information directly from a couple of floor personnel. The higher end properties may not sweat a single $1,000 chip at the cage, but a lot of properties will verify even a single $1,000 chip. As a general rule, not always, $3,000 will almost always require a card.

I don't know for sure but I wouldn't worry too much about this. If you're not rated at the table I doubt the cage will keep track of your chips cashed out on your player card for any rating purposes. It wouldn't even tell them anything in terms of W/L or anything. They want to keep track for the reasons others mentioned above.

If you're trying to stay "under the radar" in terms of your play being tracked it shouldn't matter if you show your ID at the cage. But it would be interesting to hear if anyone knows for sure that it doesn't trigger a trip or anything like that.

I played craps at Orleans December of 2012 on a MIL trip with wife and cashed out for 1500 (3 chips) and went to dinner. Gave the wife one of the chips and went and played some more, cashing in and going to bed about 3 hours later.

Wife cashed out chip (500 $) next day and they asked her what game she was playing. She relayed how she acquired the chip and they asked for her players card. I am assuming they cross-referenced and saw I had played last night and cashed out twice to verify. They always call at Orleans if cashing a white chip to verify.

But they have never asked me for id or player's card nor have I ever cashed out more than 2K at one time (OH give me the opportunity!!!).....

No worries. I had similar experiences as you. It's a pain when you cash out more than 5k. They call and verify everything. It's like we stole the chip or something. I wonder what would happen if they could not verify it. For example, a friend gave you a 5k chip. Would they cash you out?

no they wont cash it out..

when ever i go to the cage i tell the pit poss to call them and let them know its saves some times ,at cet they give you a slip to give the cage.
if im going the next day i ask them to note my account.

thats why when they robbed the b they got stuck with 100,000 dollars of chips they coudnt cash

I usually get asked somewhere between 2-3K at MGM. Seems fairly random, but I've never been able to cash in over 3K without getting asked.

This is a little off topic, but I asked the cage at TI to cash a few black chips from Flamingo, they needed my id & players card from TI to call them and ask, they actually told me no, Which surprised me, a lot. It was the only money I had on me so TI lost out.... Ha
