It's no secret that I deal in a local casino and deal with all kind of people. Having said that I'm curious about something.

Myself when I'm at a table as as a player I am having fun and enjoying myself weather I win or lose. If not having fun I walk away because to me gaming is all about entertainment. I had this view long before I was a dealer.

What iv noticed as a dealer, at least at my casino is that winning or losing very few seem to enjoy what they are doing.

This past shift I had a couple guys that insisted I was the cause of their losing streak, both as miserable as can be, the one guy iv had at my table several times and he is one that knows the book, knows how to play but seems to lose every time he is at a table which causes him to go on tangents calling us names and banging on the table. Although losing his ass instead of changing tables or taking a break he keeps pulling out $100 to rebuy knowing it's a bad shoe. I so much want to ask guys like this how they would feel if people came to their jobs and acted like this. Some of these guys are doctors some are career criminals to tell you the types we get in our casino.

What I find ironic, same shoe after table goes dead and guy with great attitude sits down and nothing but winning. I am not to superstitious but I believe a good attitude brings good cards.

So I guess if you made it this far I have a question or three. When your gambling do you take your losses in stride and continue to have a good time, do you throw the tantrums and start blaming your dealer or do you walk away and find a new table or take a break?

I've never taken my frustration out on the dealer. I've seen it done a lot and it's sad the dealers have no recourse. I've gotten very frustrated at times (I think everyone on a losing streak has) but I'm not superstitious and believe in the math. So I Know it's not the dealers fault, they're just the "robots" flipping the cards.
While playing live poker, I did throw my cards down a couple of times. The dealer gave a look and I quickly apologized. I wasn't taking it out on him, just the situation. After an apology, there was no issue. This happened only a couple of times throughout the hours and hours of live poker I've played.

I believe that the clientele of the casino in question is one of its biggest problems. I have been several times, its not a happy crowd. There are a ton of thugs and just generally unhappy looking and acting people. I have been to Las Vegas 12 times in the last three years and never had an unpleasant encounter with anyone. I have had two at the casino we are discussing.

Local casinos are a different breed than the touristy ones in Vegas. I drive over to the Louisiana ones from time to time and I see people acting like that all the time. I see people who you just know are out of money and shouldn't be in there but yet there they are...

The attitude is different. When in Vegas it is for vacation and people are generally festive and happy. We're away from real life for awhile and that usually brings out the best in people.

At the local joints, both in Louisiana and back home in Philly, I have had people begging me for money at the tables. One guy kept telling me how to play my hands at blackjack and then asked for gas money. Really? Come on dude.

Berating dealers is just ignorant and stupid. When I see people do that I say something to them. I don't give a shit if you lost your last buck...it ain't the dealers fault. They're doing their job.

I'm very familiar with the casino also, and I agree with captainron62, its the clientele.

I lose and try to have a good time. If its too bad I walk away. On another note I seem to do bad when the dealer is having a bad day and it affects my attitude so I just leave much sooner so the losses become minimal.

I have encountered a few of the people described by the OP and also wonder why they continue to play. It can ruin the feel of the table for me. I have left a table because of it (if the upset person hasn't already). It's not that I have never felt the frustration of a losing streak, but to get that nasty is beyond me.

I am also familiar the OP's casino. Played there once. Even though it is the closest one to me, I have no desire to return.

Its a shame, its a beautiful place and I had some fun there when it first opened. The criminal element and just good old fashioned trash has run a lot of the good people off. I can only imagine what the dealers have to deal with.

I know two cocktail waitress that quit. They were not making squat, one of them worked at a casino in Cincinnati and killed it, she said it was a whole diff world than this place.

I am supposed to be there right now for a birthday get together, I respectfully declined the invite.

If you're a superstitious dice player, then you know that when people hold the flow of the game up to argue about a bet they did or did not have out there is generally a guaranteed seven out.

The local joints seem to have the clientele who will bitch and moan about a dollar yo or a couple buck C&E.

One guy was fiercely arguing with the box over his two bucks that he said he put out there.

I turned my action off...seven out.

I always wondered why people chase the losses myself. i dont. If I start losing i am out of there. Its not the dealers fault if things are not going my way. Its fate. I never blame the dealer and like interacting with them.

Some people seem so glum about it though, I just dont get that.

When your gambling do you take your losses in stride and continue to have a good time, do you throw the tantrums and start blaming your dealer or do you walk away and find a new table or take a break?

As mentioned it is a whole different crowd between Vegas and your local NA casino.
My answer is based on Vegas: If i buy in at a BJ table, and quickly lose my buy in (been playing for over 25 years), I walk away and thank the dealer. I rarely ever reach into my pocket to continue the beating that I had just received. If I'm drinking a lot, and losing bad at the tables, I may give a colorful comment or 2 to the dealer. :grrr:

Sometimes I'll switch to VP if the tables are bad. If VP is going down the shitter, then I determine it's time to walk away. I'll go for a walk, go outside, go to the closest ABC store and grab a drink to carry up and down the strip while I get some air.

I go to Vegas with only money I plan on losing. I'm there to have fun and enjoy myself. If I'm losing bad.....it's just the norm for me and I'm ok with that. Winning is optional.

My bad, I thought this casino was in Vegas not Ohio. I was kinda thinking the 'criminal' element casino was south point, I've read something somewhere about that places changing demographics over the last few years ( whether that's true or not I have no idea ). I just go there for Steak 'n Shake.......

I play for fun locally and in Vegas. I actually walk from tables when the dealers aren't fun...

I have to plead 'guilty' of being that player - 30 years ago! I used to drink too much & on really bad sessions, I'd be all cranky and irritated with the dealer.
To this day, I can't explain why I would have ever behaved so irrationally - but I know I did.

Then, sometime in the 90s, I went off on some poor BJ dealer after I had lost every hand through two full double-decks.
She stopped shuffling and very sternly reminded me that she doesn't get to control which cards come out. The table got deathly quiet for a moment, and then I apologized to her.
10 minutes later, the entire table was having a grand time, & I started having fun as well. I still lost (badly) for the session, but I finally did win some hands, and the dealer showed her sense of humor by whispering to me after a rare double-down win, "gee...hope the pit-boss didn't see that...I could lose my job!"

She made me smile, and she continued to do so for the remainder of my time there.
Even though I had lost badly with her, I still gave her $5 to drop when I left - and she genuinely appreciated it.

I've never gone back to blaming dealers for anything - ever. If they're cold, emotionless pricks, then I don't stay long. If they're fun and reasonably sociable, I typically stay longer than I might have otherwise.

Playing blackjack became a lot more fun ever since that day back in the 90s.
Now-a-days, if a player starts in on a dealer, if it's just teasing and smart-alecky, I let it go; but if it gets personal or verbally vicious, then I will usually say something - to nobody in particular - like, "Defective shuffle-master?" or "Isn't it time to change cards?" or "Who cut these cards, anyway?"... something to deflect the vitriol off of the dealer.
A few times, that hasn't worked, & I've actually asked players, "Where's the chain? I don't see it." They typically say "Huh?". I respond: "Surely, there must be a ball & chain keeping you trapped at such a miserable table. I just can't see it. Must be invisible."
That has (usually) resulted in a color-out and a grumbling departure...which pleases everyone remaining.

I have two rules...never use you ATM card at a casino (especially the local ones) and never blame "the dealer". The electronic shufflers, yes, but the person who is doing their job and doesn't affect MY cards...I do my best to be as fun as possible. Hot table or not, if I'm not having fun at the table, if there's no banter, then I'm going to go find a better table. All this is out the window, of course, if my fellow black jack players are taking hits on their 14s against a dealer's 6!!! I'm quickly at another table!

On a side note, nothing more depressing than being in some of the Detroit casinos watching others risk their paychecks. The mood is always better in a Las Vegas casino. Best of luck to all!
