    My Trip Report

I just returned from my vacation in Atlantic City and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I've heard so many negative things about AC that I was beginning to expect the worst. Atlantic City has its flaws and it is ultimately no Las Vegas, but it definitely has many positive things to offer.

On the positive side, the view of the Atlantic Ocean was wonderful. It was too cold to go out on the beach or even spend much time on the boardwalk but it was still nice to see. I can only imagine how much better Atlantic City is during the summer. Many of the cocktail waitresses all the way over at the Borgata were very attractive, and the poker room at the House of Blues @ the Showboat was a fun place to play. I went "all in" on someone while playing NL Hold Em, and looked out the window to the beach while the other player agonized over his decision. Also on the positive side, I was propositioned by some "working girls" between Atlantic and Pacific avenues. One of them had a full figure and had a very sexy look of desperation in her eyes. She probably would have done anything I wanted for a couple of twenty dollar bills in order to support her kids and/or her drug habit, but I politely declined her advances. I've got too much class.

On the negative side, the sea gulls flying around overhead made walking out in the city during the day a risky proposition. I was more afraid of the sea gulls than I was of the poor people loitering on the sidewalk streets. There were a lot of sea gulls outside crowding over discarded fast food all over the city. Also, the buffet dinner I had at the Taj Mahal was very poor compared to what I experienced in Las Vegas. The biggest negative Atlantic City has for me is the abundance of visitors from New Jersey and New York as well as from cities like Philadelphia. Listening to otherwise attractive women talk in those ugly overbearing New York accents is a definite buzz-kill. It's also unpleasant to have cigar chomping sleazebags wearing gold chains walk around the casino as if they were mafia dons. I gather that Atlantic City attracts a much larger share of regional visitors than Las Vegas does, and these seedy northeasterners contribute to an atmosphere that detracts somewhat from the overall experience.

LOL yeah anyone who would use Hugh Grant for his profile pic probably wouldn't like us "seedy northeasterners". You might be better suited for a place like Topeka. :poke:

    There was an ocean ?

Seriously though - I'll take Vegas any day of the week despite AC be a short one hour flight vs 5 hours to Vegas.

Vegas has many more distractions and attractions - plus when AC fills up on the weekend the table availability and limits soar. Sorry but I like a little elbow room instead of a push your way through the crowd atmosphere.

Though there is this little dive bar near the Tropicana called "The Chelsea" that is an awesome escape when your ready to get out of the casinos.

I think AC has declined a great deal in the last 5 or so years. For awhile their efforts to improve the overall quality of a visit was really on the upswing but that improvement push seems to be over.

The biggest downside - no sportsbook in AC.

Worth a visit but I'll take 2 trips to Vegas a year instead of 5 or 6 to AC all day every day given the chance.

I live in NJ and I agree there is no comparison to Vegas. However, AC serves it's purpose- Plenty of gaming, top name concerts, and my CET tiers are good in Vegas.
I think the Diamond Lounges are better in AC than Vegas.
I used to be strictly Borgata, but they lost their affiliation with MGM. Thats when I switched to CET. Still miss the Borg but I really want my play to count for something in Vegas.:peace:

The only time you need to worry about seagulls is if you're eating out in the open or sitting near some dope feeding them. It's not like an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

So, what part of Minnesota are you from?

My bf & I were once sitting across from DD and I was getting ready to bite into my coffee roll and like a mad dive bomber one of those seagulls swooped in from behind, knocked it right out of my hand and took off like a bandit. It frightened the crap out of me. I jumped up screamed, dumped my coffee and looked like a mad woman. The people all around me were hysterical with laughter and once the shock wore off so was I.

So yes be very gaurded when snacking out on the boardwalk:nono:

Could you get more insultive? Bigotry is pretty ugly.

How about some board moderation here.

I went via a free CET promotion for the first time in over 20 years (pre Sandy) and was pleasantly surprised. The Marina casinos were nice (Borgata, Harrah's and Golden Nugget). Big weekend crowds packed most casinos at the Marina and most of the Boardwalk properties (Revel, Tropicana and the soon to be closed AC Club). 9/6 JOB was available at a few casinos and an upgrade from most Strip casino offerings.

Mostly East Coast visitors - somewhat different than the LA crowd but they were fine. More gambling vs. clubbing in AC.

Definitely not a replacement of Vegas, but I would go another weekend if free or if I was passing through the area on an extended trip.

If New Jersey opens up gaming to the Meadowlands and elsewhere, AC may be down to 6-8 casinos when all is said and done (3 Marina casinos plus Caesars/Bally's and a couple others).

Seriously, dude, think before you post. You just insulted a large portion of the board members here, including me. And don't come back to AC, we won't miss you.

Overall I liked Atlantic City but I should have been more careful in my report. Not all of the people coming in from NY, NJ and the city of Philadelphia were unpleasant - just the ones that fit my description. I noticed a lot of folks wearing NY Giants and Philadelphia Eagles and other local sports team caps around the casino - they seemed like real "salt of the earth" people. I didn't fraternize with them but I was hoping that they would do well at the slot machines or wherever they were gambling.

What kind of people did you expect in AC?

Sorry there isnt an abundance of scraggy looking meth-heads in their ratty cowboy shirts and dirty jeans that they havent changed in a week.

I give this troll job an A+. Not over the top, very believable, and enough to get people riled up. I think my favorite line was: "I didn't fraternize with them but I was hoping that they would do well at the slot machines or wherever they were gambling."

for gods sake, he didn't say everyone was a mafia don. it's his freaking trip report, if you don't like what he says just move on. thank the lord he didn't say anything about gays or gang bangers getting into heaven or we would have glaad and jesse jackson getting an account and posting.

all this pc shit is getting way out of control

are there any people hanging out in atlantic city casinos the fits his description? guess what, they are in every casino.

You should take your own advice about moving on or go grow some thicker skin. You sound like you have your panties riled up more than anyone.

No you don't have an issue with him lashing out about northeasterners, but you have an issue with those northeasterners giving it back to him. If someone can dish it out they should be able to take it too.

BTW I wasn't trying to burn him with the Hugh Grant statement, I was trying to do that with the Topeka one. :Þ

Anyway I was just messing around. I see from your timer you're headed to Vegas any minute, have a kick-ass trip and win some dough!
