On another forum I post on, Vegas Vacation seems to be a popular movie to watch to get in the mood for Vegas. I was wondering if you guys have any favorites to watch?

Seems like this question comes up every several months.

Lots of good Vegas movies. Ocean's 11, Casino, Lucky You, and The Cooler always put me in a vegas mood

I love 'Rounders', but that flaw is annoying as hell...as if, out of countless other opponents, Matt Damon was the only one to ever notice and exploit that tell!

Maybe they did but never lived to tell the tale :rolleyes2: it is Teddy KGB after all, and I'm guessing he doesn't always feel like "he beat me, straight up. Paaaay him".

You should add "Heat" with Burt Reynolds. It was made in the late 80's just before Excalibur and Mirage were built. It's filmed entirely in Vegas, has some great gambling scenes especially in the Aladdin, Burt dressed as a pimp, a mafia connection, etc. Yes, it's cheesy, but a movie made in Vegas and about Vegas with some funny scenes as well as some serious undertones (Burt with all his machoness, is really a nice guy but shows his ultimate weakness in his addiction to gambling.
There is a great scene at Aladdin when he comes across $10,000 dollars (through his female friend), and sits at the BJ table with a dealer he has known for awhile. She knows he has a gambling addiction and tries convince Burt not to continue (she whispers this to him), but to no avail.
When she makes a final attempt, Burt, in a soft voice, says to her....."i can't".

Not a Vegas movie, but a movie about Horse racing called "Let it Ride" staring Richard Dreyfuss. I watch this the night before everyone of my Vegas trips and it definitely gets the gambling vibe flowing.:peace::beer:

"Pay it Forward" starring Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey. Movie is based in Vegas but the story doesn't really get your Vegas juices flowing.

Just wanted to add a movie aside from all the usual popular ones.

My favorite is "Vegas Vacation". Another good one is "The Cooler".

For gambling movies (more Reno based) I recommend the under appreciated Hard Eight and California Split.

The two to absolutely NOT watch before going to Vegas (or you'll be so depressed and freaked out you won't be able to gamble or drink):

    Leaving Las Vegas
    Owning Mahowny

"21" always gets me into the mood. Although it's full of mistakes and exaggerations, the music, aerial views of the Strip just amaze you. Along with Hangover, this one is the most watched movie for me that results in organizing a Vegas trip.

Also there's the most recent movie "Last Vegas". It's an OK movie, but any movie that takes me to Vegas for a couple hours is a good one, heck I even watch youtube videos of the Strip! Don't forget Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas too.

Agreed with Wade on Owning Mahowny. Sooo depressing. Add "The Cooler" into that list.

Yep, Owning Mahowny was a truly depressing movie. The fact that it is based on a true story made it even harder to watch.

As to the post about "Croupier" it is so-so. Based on a writer in the UK who steals money from a London casino. Not bad if nothing else is on. Wouldn't purchase the movie but it might be worth a watch if it's on Netflix or cable... :peace::beer:

I agree. But it is also probably one of the best gambling related movies I've ever seen. It might be a good movie to keep on your laptop or tablet and force yourself to watch while you're actually in Vegas and on tilt. :wink2:

Fear and Loathing is my personal fave. Casino is a close second.

Any Elvis fans? Viva Las Vegas

Indeed. I love how this movie dovetailed with the line from "Casino" when Ace says, "Smart hustlers like her could keep a guy awake for two or three days before sending him home broke to the little woman and bank examiners." :peace:

Very good movie. But since its not US based, it definitely doesn't have that Vegas or AC vibe to the gambling parts

I know it is just out, but - if you are of a certain age (think baby boomers!) - "Last Vegas" is a hoot!!!!
