    Hi,

Following some discussions with my wife, we might skip Las Vegas next year for a non-gambling destination. However, I do wish to do a small gambling trip (4-5 days) with a friend of mine.

I live in Montreal and flights from here to Las Vegas can be very long and/or costly, especially considering a 4-5 days trip. Now, flights to Toronto are really affordable and we won't have to pay for currencies exchange if we stay in Canada (aka, more money for booze and gambling lol).

I was thinking about Ceasars Palace in Windsor. How is this Casino? Is the Gambling affordable : I would like to play mostly Craps, BlackJack and Pai Gow Poker (if there is a poker room, even better). Did you like your stays there or do you have other casinos in mind when wanting to relax and gamble in the south of Ontario? Or maybe other places in Canada?

Thank you for your suggestions and help. :)
    Cheers

If you are a TR member, call to see what room rate Caesars will offer. We like to visit there when we are in Ontario. It has two floors of slots, games etc. Can't help with the pay tables for your games. There is a high limit poker room.

Compared to the little local OLG casinos, Caesars really is a palace.

It would be more of a vacation/sight seeing trip than a gambling trip. The hotel at Caesars Windsor is very nice. But, it's not Vegas. You could go across to Detroit and check some things out, there's a few casinos there too. I don't know how much you like Niagara Falls, you could try that. Still not Vegas but stuff to see. The hotel at Fallsview casino is nice, good buffets too. And then there's another casino on the American side of the Falls. I like Niagara Falls, I don't get sick of it.

We just spent a long weekend there (For the same reasons as you, we are from Halifax and long/expensive weekend to go to Vegas).

We had an awesome time, hotel is huge and so is the casino, great eats also, and lots and lots of tables/machines!

Do it, you won't be disappointed!

We are off the Vegas this weekend though, for the Wife's B-Day!

Thanks for the tips. I will certaintly contact TR and see if I can get a deal. Also, I read on other forums that playing at CET casinos from outside Vegas makes it easy to get rooms comped for a stay in Vegas. I do not if this is true however.

Thank you. This is in the range for my really low-roller bankroll. Let's hope there is some 5$ blackjack also hehe.

Oh, Niagara Falls would be wonderful to see with my wife, so I will keep your nice idea for a trip with her in the future. Thank you for the suggestions.

    Happy birthday to her!

And your enthusiasm about Ceasars Windsor is great to read and it gives me hope I might do a fun trip if I go there in a few month with my gambling friend.

Thanks to all for your answers! :)

A question that might seems strange: is alcohol free while gambling at Windsor? It is not free in Montreal (grrr) and I wonder if it is the same in the rest of Canada (I sure hope not!).

Also, on the website of Ceasars Windsor, I read that there is an indoor pool: is it an enjoyable place or not?

Not free even when gambling? Ugh... I hope that at 6$, it is a pint and not a bottle.

Well, this is a bummer for sure, but I suppose that it is possible to buy cheaper booze around the casinos and drink it in our room instead of spending money at the bars? If even that is not possible... oh well I would gain less weight on this trip lol.

Sadly, the $6.00 is for a 341 ml Beer.... how do you think I felt (I'm a Newfie and I need 12 just to get me in the mood to have the next 12 :)

I knew this prior to going, so we stopped into a liquor/beer store in a cab on the way from the airport and grabbed a bunch.

We stayed in the "Adults only" tower (The Forum Tower) and taking booze from your room to the casino floor was not a problem.

Don't sweat it, you will have a great time, we sure did!

Haha, I know how you feel, I am a good drinker too.

I will remember to get to a liquor store, good idea.

The adults only tower seems like a nice place from what i read. :) Thanks for the suggestions.

It shouldn't be a strange question even to many Americans.

Some states where alcohol isn't free in casinos that I know of (possibly not an exhaustive list):

California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan (except Detroit), Missouri, Ohio.

I am willing to drive 5.5 hours to Tunica from St. Louis partly because of comped drinks.

Howdy...I live here in Windsor and Caesars is like my second home.
No alcohol is definitely not free...but you can get free non alcoholic beverages, both by ordering them from the slot machine or from dispensing areas on the casino floor.

The closest beer store is on Wyandotte street. The closest Liquor store is on University Ave.

You are NOT allowed to bring alcohol from your room into the casino. You may get away with it at times, but it is not allowed. On weekends they often have security stationed at the bottom of the elevators to check people.

The indoor pool is very nice and is open till midnight, so if you run out of money you can go for a swim...lol. There is also a nice gym and hot tub in the same area.

There are two towers, the Forum tower (adult) where the pool is and the Augustus which is newer and you may encounter someone under 19. I actually prefer the older tower but I always stay in the Augustus tower because it has free WIFI and the older tower does not. (Wired only)
Free WIFI is also available in the lobby.

I always have a great time there, especially when there is a good show. There is a huge Colliseum there.

    Here are a few pictures.

I so understand you! Comped drinks are often the only comps I could hope to get most of the time.

That being said, the table games limits seems to be reasonable for my low-roll bankroll so it is okay I guess.

    @ Blonde_4_ever :
Wow, really nice pictures. Thank you for sharing them. It seems like a nice place indeed so thank you for this recommandation. Are the room's pictures from the older tower?

You said that we cannot bring alcohol from our room to the casino floor. But is it okay to drink alcohol in the room (again, sorry if the question seems strange for a casino hotel lol)?

    Not Ontario, but close!!

How about Niagara Falls, New York? I personally love the Seneca Hotel and Casino. It is not a far drive from Toronto.

I live in Southwestern Ontario, however, I do not like the casinos in Ontario very much. The machines tend to be tight, for me at least. I keep trying though!! And there aren't any tables in my area, only slots.

When I get a chance to get away for a few days, I try to go to Niagara Falls, but the U.S. side. Free drinks on the casino floor. Great service, and decent comps once you get there and going on the players card. Most of the table games are available.

The restaurants at Seneca are very good. Asian mix, Italian, Steakhouse, diner, and general family style restaurant are all within the building.

There is decent shopping in the area as well.

Just another idea to add to the dialogue.

All suggestions are welcome and yours is appreciated.

I mentionned Ceasars Windsor in my first post because A) Canadian dollars (meaning no currencies exchange fees) and B) I am a Total Rewards member.

Seneca seems interesting I must say. Rooms seems to be the same price than Windsor's. If I am not mistaken, it is in USA then currencies might be a issue (hopefully a minor one if canadian dollar goes strong in 2014, but some financial experts said no, so who knows).

That being said, depending of the situation, we might consider this casino so thank you again for this suggestion: I do not know this area a lot and I love to learn new things. :)

Both the older and the newer tower rooms are practically identical. One is not nicer than the other. Those pics are from the newer tower.

I usually bring a bottle of "something" with me in my suitcase and have a drink in the privacy of my room. To tell you the truth..I don't know if it against any rules or not. But the maid sees the bottle sitting there all the time and it has never been an issue.
What they really dislike is when a bunch of the "younguns" get all drunked up in the room and come roaring downstairs with glasses of alcohol in their hands. That is definitely breaking some laws I guess. (Which is why they sometimes have security guards in place)

I guess if the maid says nothing, then all is good lol. I would be all right at Windsor then if I go there in some months. Thank you for your help. :peace:

Our dollar is heading down. That's something I consider too when picking a US casino. You also have to think about the 30% holdback if you win over $1200.

Maybe you and the guys can do a multi casino tour. Forget the little OLG casinos, IMO.

You could also consider going across to the Detroit casinos.

If you're doing a warm weather trip, you might want to include some golf. Heard good things about Seneca area.

Niagara Falls is still a honeymoon spot. I actually had a traditional Niagara Falls honeymoon. Red heart shaped Jacuzzi and mirror over the bed even. :wink2:
