I was wondering if anyone has an opinion to share on what downtown casino has the best quality cocktails they can comp you while playing video poker. Quality meaning best quality mixers and booze. Ability to mix a more complex cocktail a plus. I imagine the level of tipping may have a lot to do with it. Any insights you have on recommended tip amount would be appreciated as well too. Thanks.

I think I've had Grand Marnier at Golden Nugget and Main Street. I usually drink light beer early in the day and evening and maybe have a Grand Marnier nightcap so I haven't had occasion to order many expensive drinks on Fremont.

My vote is for the Golden Gate. Never had a problem getting Grey Goose or Patron. They really do have a pretty good selection behind the bar.

Hijack thread alert... Does anyone know if playing .25 vs. $1 option on bar tops makes a difference on the availabilty of "top shelf" liquor?

For the record, I don't have an answer on the O.P.'s question. When I play in Vegas I'm pretty much a beer only (Coors Light) type of guy.

I doubt playing $1 over .25 would make much difference, IMHO tipping might get you stiffer drinks if you ask for it though. I've had goose at numerous bars inside Plaza, MSS, 4Queens, etc. So unless you are looking for something way overpriced, you should be good to go!

from my experience, some casinos who won't comp top shelf brands will do so for players with the higher level player's club cards (Gold Coast is the one I'm thinking of)

I like the Vue bar too (will be there in about 3 weeks) but they don't comp top shelf drinks. While the Golden Nugget bars have really good drinks (best Bloody Mary downtown) their strip/DTG like VP paytables keep me away.

Boar's Bar at MSS has the best combination of very playable VP and top shelf drinks downtown. I'm mainly a vodka drinker and they comp Ciroc & Ketel. Also, they have $0.99 margaritas all day at the bar for non players but they will make them with premium tequila comped for VP players. And of course they have their great home brews...

    Binions

The rear VP bar at Binions served large top shelf strong drinks. The bar tenders are super nice. Always the same ever year .

Will El Cortez comp their specialty cocktails for players? Those are pretty good.

Queens has always been good with crown and absolute. I play quarters mostly.

I do enjoy bar VP at GN. 90% of the bartenders are very nice guys and I have had great conversations with other patrons.

Word of warning: The machines are pure crap and pay very poorly and don't work a "good deal" of the time.

We were served fast and well at the Golden Gate bar the last time we sat and played.

love the bar @ Golden Gate. Was just in vegas, stayed at THEhotel, but played downtown. Really don't play much at the Gate, but valet park there and finish my evening in the bar every night. The sights are wonderful, the bartenders are not only gorgeous but so friendly (Valeria, Jackie and Vanessa in particular), Curley is ok, but not as easy on the eyes. Has great jokes, if you like you humor from the 60-70's. Don't know if they comp special drinks, if I'm playing vp, will just order a Guinness, if just hanging out, I'll buy a drink. Lot of interesting people visit the bar. Every night I met new people and had just to much fun, everyone just down to earth, not a pretentious one in the bunch.

    GG Bar

One of my favorite hang out spots, for sure. Agree with you on all counts. And if you want to see Curley do a double take, call him Bob. That's his real name. "Hey Bob!"

    Whoa...

People at this bar are generally friendly and down to earth. One night I met a casino host as he was getting off work. We talked about a lot of things, including the fact that I am not the type of player who would ever show up on his radar. He still chatted me up for about an hour. Cool people here all around.

Mixed drinks: Golden Nugget, hands down. Best drinks, most comfy chairs, and probably the worst VP paytables .:evillaugh

Beer: Main Street Station, best microbrews, and best Jacks or Better VP game for quarters.

Root Beer: Chicago Brewery at Four Queens

All of this said, I have not visited the D or GG since they renovated, so my opinion could be dated.

    Easy answer

    This one is easy

2 places. For large strong drinks free for playing .25 VP the rear bar at Binions and El Cortez near the rear area of the casino ( near the players club area)

Out of curiosity, do any of the bar tops have video keno? Other than VP I've seen BJ as an option but I don't recall seeing any keno options. Keno and free drinks sounds good to me

I also like the bar near the Sportsbook at the Plaza, there is a older bartender guy there who is really nice. I dont think it opens until later in the afternoon, but its a calm quiet place and fun. I hit a 4oak progressive there on ddb .25 for like $320 last year. Was pretty excited about that!
