  1. This is short and sweet as I hate doing trip reports. I flew in 2 days early (on a Tues) from Roanoke so I could spend a little time with my old high school buddy that's lived out there 13 years now. My 2 other buddies were flying in from Columbus Thurs. I was able to get back to back ressies for me and my long time Vegas traveling buddy, Mike, and our other friend stayed at Rio.

Yeah that's steam coming out of my ears. Made one of my dumber mistakes this trip. I just had a gut feeling about this trip and was going to take some pics of my VP hits and misses, because even Mike says I get more near miss Royals than anyone he's seen. Anyhow, I go to take my a pic of my first 4 card near miss Royal over at Palms on day 1 and.......nada? Go to take it again......same thing. I open my phone case and my "chip" for picture taking isn't there. As well as I plan and list what to take to Vegas I had left the chip in the adapter that transfers pics I take to my computer and was sitting neatly on my computer desk when I arrived back home.

The bright spots of VP took place at Red Rock and Palms casinos. For those of you that follow my escapades, you remember about 3-4 trips ago I pitched a penny in the Red Rock fountains before entering and hit a Royal. Last trip....nada. This time I had no change except for 2 quarters, I kissed one of them and off it went into the fountain. We went to the main VP bar where I proceeded to get quad A's w/kicker, quad A's w/no kicker, quad 3's w/kicker and a couple of other nondescript quads, all on the same machine and same game, DDB. Palms was just about the same thing. Many quads including A w/kicker and A w/no kicker and plenty of other quads on the same machine. I also probably had at least 10-15 "almost 4 card Royals" over the 7 days. Would've loved turning just one of them into the real deal.

However, as all of you VP players well know, it wasn't all a bed of roses. Took a beating one afternoon at Palms. Another black and blue day at M Resort and Harrahs once again wasn't too kind to me, but I did get a sufficient amount of quads there to offset the bad sessions. Bottom line is that I am proof positive that you can have a good trip gambling at VP with no Royals as long as you hit enough premium quads. Came home with a little more than I went out with and doesn't include the approx $400 I spent on misc stuff (my share of car rental, food, tips etc) Mike didn't do as well, dropping about $1200 and Dean (a relative Vegas rookie) lost about 2k.

While I love spending 7 days out there, it took a toll on my body. Even with a car rental, what "normal people" would consider mere strolls, started catching up to me by the 5th day. Also, trying to watch what I ate didn't work, so I put on lbs. that wasn't intended and caused me some shortness of breath.

Oh, and Mon. we got caught out in some ferocious winds. We were at M resort and upon leaving, almost got blown away. Bad part was it was taking all of the air out of my lungs and I couldn't breathe. Made it to the safety of the car. Mon nights news said there were sustained winds at 45 MPH and Mt Charleston had winds in excess of 75 MPH.

Food? Not much to tell you there. I did 3 buffets this trip. Mirage and Bellagio through MyVegas vouchers and M with a coupon they sent to me. We did eat at Black Bear Diner 3 times this trip because it's so good. Oyster Bar at Harrahs and the cafe at Palms rounded out the dining.

I also met up with my high school buddy and we went out to Valley of Fire after breakfast at Black Bear Diner on Weds. Really a scenic place and he took a few pics he's sending me.

So that's the extent of what you'll get out of me for a trip report. Don't know that I'll do 7 days again, but not from a financial reason. More of a "health thing".

Edited to add: Something I forgot....

Something I forgot to mention. One night the guys were pounding the tables (and the booze) hard at 3 Card Poker and weren't hungry so I took a chance and went next door to Casino Royale.

For those of you with the hundreds of thousands of points that only equate to $30,$40 or $50, try the Outback Steakhouse at Casino Royale. Minimum voucher for there is $25 and increase in increments of $5. I went upstairs first (something I would suggest) and looked over the menu, then went to get my voucher for $35. For that amount I got a cup of bean soup, crab cakes (3), a baked potato, a large soda and their hot loaf of brown bread. I had planned on carrot cake, but was too full, so I lost about $5 on the voucher. Big deal. Granted it's not 5 star dining, but it was good and where else on the Strip can you get all of the above for just under $30, not including tip? Plus I used up points that were just sitting there until I figured out what to do with them.

Sorry I didn't get to catch up with you this trip Jack! The weather sure took a turn on the 28th with the wind and cold front! Good tip on The Outback at CR...I never use my CR points....now I'll have something to use them on. Congrats on coming home a winner. Palms and Cosmo were good to me this trip.

A tip for the Outback at CR. Get the corner table with a view of the volcano at the Mirage. It is a great show from your table with all the flames at night.

Yes, Delta is about the only game in town for me to Vegas, carve. US Air and United just aren't competitive. Only good pricing I get out of Roanoke is Allegiant down to Tampa (Clearwater/St. Pete airport).

Breanna, I too am sorry we didn't get to see each other this trip. I and my buddies were at Palms the day you flew in until about 2:30, but I never saw you.

We arrived at around 10:30 a.m. Jack, dumped our suitcases in the room, ate at 24/7 then were down in the Casino until it was time to get ready to head over to Luxor to see Carrot Top. I'd have paid more attention to who was around if I'd known you were there!

Whenever we play VP at Palms, the bulk of it is at the old original VP bar, to the right as you come in the main entrance. That's where we were Sun. The other reason we play there is we know Kim, long time bartender there.
