What the hell is Downtown Grand thinking?

So I've been in "active planning" mode with an upcoming trip, and had added an entire section for the Downtown Grand. Moved my flight up a day and planned to take an extra $2,000 down there (on top of my previous bankroll), just to play the 9/6 Bonus Deluxe (along with I"m sure a bunch of carny games).

I was pretty excited about the prospect of reasonable paytables at a nice, new downtown property with perhaps a reasonable pool option.

Then they go to 7/5 on their progressive DDB game?!?!?!

    F That Shit. :grrr::grrr::grrr:

I'll only stop in now to see this debacle pay table situation with my own two eyes (and to report on it).

I feel dirty for having even considered cheating on my downtown faves---GG and The D.

    Major mistake

Between your early day at the grand plus the Gang hitting them up Friday night it sounds like The D just lost some major coin in between all of us. I don't mind just playing at GG and The D on Friday night.

Yep, it brings into focus for me what really matters.

I really like the updated rooms, vibe, and the nice treatment we receive at Golden Gate and The D. The Downtown Grand sounds like a strip-type attitude to me. For that I'll spend my time at Cosmo/Aria. No reason to give them DIME ONE of my business.

We were there on opening day. And I loved the place. Mostly because the staff were bending over backwards to make you comfortable, say hello, get your player's card etc.

The bar staff were great and there were some good video poker games to play.

We got hooked up with a really nice host who set up a comped meal at Triple George the next night (which was EXCELLENT).

We were a bit bummed that there was no quarter full pay VP but there was [strike]pretty much the same quarter Double Double Bonus 8/5 progressive[/strike] an inferior 8/5 DDB progressive compared to the 9/6 DDB progressive that the Four Queens bars has. And the Grand's progressive seemed to move up a lot faster - the Aces with kicker got up to $970 - probably a couple of hundred higher than I have ever seen it at Four Queens.

There was full pay 8/5 Bonus Poker dollars which we played for 3 hours at the bar.

So we go back 3 days later and the un-smiling guys holding a screwdrive and an anti-static rack of ROM chips are defiling every video poker machine in the place. I asked them point black if they were lowering the paytables.

    They said: "No."

    I said: "Bullshit."

I practically cried at the disappointment, and the stupidity of it.

Because we are probably hooked up for a nice comped stay in future thanks to our lovely host.

But what good will it be if we don't have a fighting chance on the paytables, like we do just one short block south, or south east????

We need to take over a table at the GG High Limit room playing BJ on Friday night. Granted they only have 3 tables but I am sure our host can reserve a table for us. What do you think?

Unbelievable - could they have lost that much money in a few days to necessitate the change? Or I mean, did they not MAKE enough money. Crazy.

Probably similar to what their video poker looks like now: about 1.5% below the generally expected return downtown (i.e. 87.5% vs. 89% for pennies). :grrr:

I am really disappointed by this, even if the best games were more than I can afford. Bunch of idiots running that place.

And if you get those comps, Flusher, burn'em while you can!

This is very disappointing. I was thinking just the opposite that a new place would maybe be lucky and that they'd want to incentivize people to play there.:grrr::grrr:

They didn't lose any money, they most likely just didn't make much - sounds like the place just wasn't that busy. Like with the plaza some stupid accountant decided that if they had say 1 or $2 million in VP play and ,made the expected 1.5%, if they change the paytables another 1% they will therefore make another 10-20K a night...which we all know wont happen.

Wow...and I was gonna make a special trip down there for the opening and because it had good VP.

I'm with Beeejay, F that shit. I'll stick to the other plans we had (poker at Aria).

RF a bit off-topic but can you confirm the 4Q bartops have 8/5 progressive DDB? I'll be there in 5 weeks and it's been 9/6 DDB since I can remember. Did this change or is this (hopefully) a typo?

Also, just like everyone else I'm bummed about the VP downgrade at DTG. Doesn't surprise me, only that it happened so quickly. Looks like they tore a page out of the Plaza playbook which is obviously not a recipe for success DT.

Liked and commented....if there's one thing that a lot of businesses hate these days, it's negative publicity on social media. I don't have Twitter, but for those of you who do, feel free to blast them on there as well, retweet, share, etc. Hopefully some VP for DG sees your post (maybe there's a VP of VP? :evillaugh)

    Beejay,
I responded to your post on facebook with a couple of my own. We should flood their facebook page with messages about the poor vp and maybe they will respond.
