Which hotel would you prefer? I have excal booked right now and while the contemporary rooms will be fine for me and we do not need fine dining what so ever (we prefer to be in and out in under 30 so probably subway, dennys etc) i can't get over the fact that both mgm & NYNY (and even luxor tower) have rooms for only $10 more than the contemporary ones. I know the resort fees are higher so overall it would probably be closer to $100 difference in the end which would you prefer.

I have been searching all night through threads but haven't really found what i am looking for. I know we are not going till April but i want to finally be happy with my decision and feel settled. My husband prefers cheaper, he figures we have more spending money in what we save, which is true, but i am so indecisive on this figuring i am making a bad decision. I hate when i have never been somewhere before lol.

I think MGM is probably the best of all of the properties you mention, with NY NY being preferred due to a better location than Luxor. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to go with MGM or NY NY for a small increase. In fact I wouldn't even question it. They are both so much more pleasant than having to walk into Excalibur every single time you need your room. Make sure you check all of the promos available on smartervegas.com to compare prices on the rate calendar!

MGM or NYNY would be my choice. Probably NYNY.

I think the contemporary rooms at Excalibur are actually pretty nice, and that seems to be the general opinion whenever Excalibur comes up in a thread.

Myself, I just find MGM Grand to be too big, where it can be a pretty big hike to anywhere, even within MGM Grand. I've never stayed at NYNY, never really wanted to - when it comes up as an option we always pick Monte Carlo next door because we prefer their casino, the location and the food court... but I do like gambling in NYNY and think they have a pretty decent slots selection.

I originally counted Monte Carlo out because it wasn't "disney" enough for me (if that makes sense lol). I like themes. Now that i look into it more compared to excal it is almost the same price as the contemp rooms for a basic room. Maybe that would be the best bet.

Either way we will stay at NYNY for one night for sure, at the start of our trip before we go to the grand canyon.

Yeah, Monte Carlo doesn't really have a theme... everything is kind of white or off-white or ivory.

We like staying there because everything is kind of "right there" - when you come down the guest elevators you have the main part of the casino there, the front desk and taxi stand right there, the store right there, the food court is right there and The Pub is just a short walk away. Also Aria and the tram to Bellagio are just down the walkway and there is a CVS store out front.

We get the place comped and thats what I meant about NYNY vs Monte Carlo: NYNY might be a great place to stay but when I get a room comped for 3 nights with a bunch of free play at NYNY I end up with the same offer at Monte Carlo and so I always end up picking Monte Carlo.

MGM is the nicest. But it's also the largest, honestly, it's a pain because it's big to get in and out, to get a cab.. etc. etc. I think if you are looking for a nice room though this is it. The resort fees at MGM are $28 a night. Versus I think $20 at the others.

But the Luxor tower rooms are very nice, I was surprised. I mean the decor is a little ugly lol, but it was way nicer than the pyramid, and nicer than Excalibur for sure. Also they have a food court, easy access to Excalibur's huge food court. Then access to Mandalay Bay.

I have no experience with staying at NYNY, but in general, I have no desire to go there for any reason, it doesn't have much to offer. Also it's under A LOT of construction. The rooms are probably similar to Luxor.

Honestly $100 is worth the upgrade. If you can get into MGM, I'd do that. The whole place, rooms, casino, restaurants, have all been renovated, it's very nice!! It's impressive and "normal" where as Excalibur is crappy, budget.. a dump. Also just keep your eye on the promo codes! Prices fluctuate a lot, also there probably isn't many deals for April just yet.

I'd put EX at the bottom of the list. I opt for staying at MGM even if it is quite large and the waits at the elevators can be a pain at times. It's just so much nicer. NYNY would probably be your best option, not as big and busy as MGM but not as blah as EX.

Having stayed at Luxor and NYNY and not MGM, I would go with NYNY. It is overall a nicer property with a better location. It has a nice feel and it is less of a walk to the north end of the strip, although still long. I like the feel of NYNY. That said, I haven't stayed at MGM. Like someone else said, I wouldn't even question staying at NYNY or MGM vs. Luxor.

If you have never been to Vegas do not make your first time be at the Excalibur. Spend a little extra money and stay somewhere nicer so you get a good Vegas feel. Everyone says that you are never in your room, which is right, but you do stay at your host Hotel more than any other and playing at the Excal is not something I want to do.

Stayed at both NYNY and MGM and both are great but I would choose NYNY.

Agree with this, the "you will never be in your room" camp is strong with people who recommend just getting the cheapest room in your preferred location on the strip. I completely disagree unless you are within driving distance to Vegas/can visit easily and often.

You do spend the majority of your time in your home base between sleep/quick eats/pool/and quick access to gambling.

Nothing is wrong with the Excal widescreen room (or whatever they call it now), but for the cost of what some people bet on one hand of blackjack or put into a slot machine and blow through in 20 minutes you can have a much nicer place to rest your head and wake up to in the morning.

I love the look of NYNY and i like that it is compact. Looks like the construction will be there for a while though.

I would love to stay at MGM but it sounds too big for me, i have mobility issues. I can walk for periods but need frequent breaks (hips).

Does NYNY or luxor smell heavily of smoke in the casinos & hallways? I know some places have decent ventilation and others not so much.

I do not remember smoke being an issue at NYNY.

As to construction, I think it is pretty much outside.

I stayed at Excalibur 2x in 2006. The problem I have with the place is the smell. It's the stinkiest Casino on the Strip!
I just looked at their website and I was surprised at the updated rooms. For Excalibur they really don't look half bad!
    I used to love Luxor. I stayed there 5x from 2006 - 2007. Yeah I went to Vegas 4x in 2006 and 3x in 2007 haha!
I miss the old charm Luxor had back then. I'll be staying at MGM in Dec for the first time. Never been to NYNY yet.
