Still licking my wounds after a pretty painful trip last month. My wife and I are low rollers but we usually play non-stop for 3 or 4 days, except when we're walking to the next casino or shuttlin' to Palms. Dropped half of my VP bankroll at Wynn with only a few 4oak. Hate the new layout. They took out a bunch of the $0.25 machines and the best progressive bank. Okay, Wynn and quarter play may not line up too well but they also jacked with the dollar machine layout. Until this trip, Wynn and Encore were our favorite places to play VP. Atmosphere, beautiful people, quick bev service and lots of quads. We could play for hours on a hundred bucks. I was 3 bills in before I got my first quad (DDB).

Well....we usually do OK at Wynncore too but we got blanked this last trip to Bellagio so maybe it was just the way things were rolling in Sept?:drunk:

So how did they change Wynn up? I heard they were moving some machines around but that's about it. There was definitely more VP at Wynn than Encore....is than not so much the case now?

Which qtr bank did they take out, the one down at the south end of the casino? Are all the dollar progressives still there?

Bellagio was pretty good to us and a $20 trick at check in got us a premium fountain view room during a busy week (reportedly).

We would typically get 10-12 quads a day and on this 4-day trip I got a total of 10 and my wife got 12. If she hadn't hit Aces w/kicker on the last day, we'd have come back empty handed. Never in 15 trips has that happened. We never expect to hit a big one, but we do expect to hit some small ones, at least enough to play on their money for awhile. I guess that's why they call it gamblin'.

As for Wynn, they re-arranged most of the machines (VP and slot) into carousels instead of straight banks. They dismantled the $0.25 progressive 14-machine bank that was on the aisle near the High Limit area (formerly Blush; south end?) and there was an 8-machine bank across the aisle that's also gone. There were also a couple of progressive banks on each side of the aisle on the other side of the BJ tables that are missing. And I think Encore only has one bank of $0.25 machines now.

Wynncore has reduced another 15% or so of their machines by going to the carousel design vs the straight design. After our stay there in July, I wrote a comment card expressing my dissatisfaction with their slot floor (pitiful now IMHO when you compare it to Bellagio, Aria or Pallazzo/Venetian). I think they have about 25-35% fewer machines on the floor now than they did when they opened 5 years ago.

Obviously this is a cost saving measure and I understand that, but it is pitiful what they have done to my favorite hotel.

I couldn't agree with you more. We were very disappointed. Thank you for taking time to fill out a comment card. I hope they listen, even a little. I politely voiced my disgust to one of the servers. With a smile, she said, "Yeah, it really opened the floor up." Positive spin. I guess all of the profits are going to Macau.

    Enjoy your trip next week.

They have an email address you can use......I've used this for both positive and negative comments. They usually reply pretty quickly although it's never obvious that anything changes because of my comments. However, I said something positive about a couple of people in the hotel and when they saw me next trip, they made a point of thanking me for the positive comments.

    You can email them at:

Last trip there (July), played on a quarter progressive bank of 2x4 over by the Red Card desk kinda by the cashier cage. I get so turned around in there after that long walk through the Wynn Esplanade, that I have no idea which way is up! So I could be wrong on the location, but it was on my way back to Encore every night!

The point I failed to make is that it appears Wynn is not reinvesting any money into the casinos in their LV properties.

I downloaded the Wynn app to my phone. There are many icons on the two pages to choose from.......and not a single one of them is the casino or gaming. What does that say about what interests Wynncore these days?

Unfortunately he's been pretty clear lately that Wynncore is a night club venue these days w/ gambling as a side ammenity. We've loved staying there but if they've gutted the VP, that's not going to work. I'm still planning to stay there in Feb and I'll go look around and make sure they didn't just move some of those machines that we think have been removed. The used to do that at the Mirage all the time. I'm going to ask our host what she knows too.

Not sure where I'd stay if it wasn't Wynn. Ruled our Bellagio after this last trip....possibly Red Rock or ARIA.

I'm pretty sure Encore was like that when we were there last fall. Only 1 qtr progressive bank and that was over by the Southside Bar.

Maybe they're trying to push the VP players up to the "no drink service" bartops because those things are usually vacant.

Just checked VPfree and it says a month ago they added a qtr progressive bank and a $1 progressive bank in front of the Society Cafe.

I don't think removing slot machines to reconfigure the floor is a cost cutting measure, I think it is about aesthetics. SW is big on that.

Removing VP IS a measure to introduce higher house advantage machines, consistent with the worsening BJ rules and the overall idea that Wynn is a nightclub now, not a casino.

Dean, from your prior posts I think you may really like GVR as a VP player. Pay tables are outstanding (so good, your eyes will pop out of your head if you are used to the strip). The overall feel is quiet and upmarket. Red rock may be similar or better as newer Stations property. I prefer Aria overall as a BJ player but VP is tough there as it always is on the strip.

They've also changed the seats at the machines in the casino (Wynn and Encore both). The new ones provide more cushion but they're somewhat uncomfortable after the first few minutes. It seems like they're pitched at a strange angle or something.

My opinion with the topic of this thread after last weekend is there are fewer machines, but there was never a wait for one... This was at the $1, $2, and $5 level. Pay tables haven't changed.

I've never had luck there, and it's always SO dead. Nearly every time i've been in there there was like literally 5 people gambling, no noise, it's just boring and quiet and didn't make me excited... and want to drop my money.

I don't know why, but I prefer the casinos that are noisy and fun. Also yea, I'm a pretty low roller, I feel like they will never reward me anything so why bother. Maybe I'll check it out again...

Took one of my worst VP beatings at Encore shortly after it opened and Wynn was trolling for new customers. Had 3 nights comped. Beautiful room and casino. Staff very friendly and nice selection of places to eat, but the gambling.....UGH. Never been back, but I've heard the VP over at Wynn is better.?

Heather, one of the nice parts of Wynncore is you have both casinos. Encore is usually quieter but I love playing there in the morning or afternoon. Wynn is more the party casino for playing at night. The atmosphere at Encore does pick up when Surrender is open but it's not always the gambling type party atmosphere you're looking for.

Encore can be a bit bipolar with the 50+ crowd and the EBC crowd mixed together in the summer months.

We just got back from Wynncore, so I can give you an update as to what is changed.

There are two banks of quarter progressives at Wynn, but instead of having 5 machines on each side, they now only have 4 machines on the one side that is closest to the tower suites check in. The one over by Allegro is also just 4 machines on one side. I didn't look at Encore quarters.

For the dollar progressive, there are two banks at Wynn.....one over by the high limit area that has a total of 8 machines (4 each side) and one in the middle of the casino where it has always been that also now just has 8 machines.

Maybe because it was a busy weekend (Free Play Frenzy tournament), but you could not get a seat at the $1 or $2 level video poker on either Friday night or Saturday night. I don't play at the $5 level, so can't comment on those banks. Agree with you that the pay tables haven't changed.
