I've been reading, practicing and trying to study up on Video Poker for my next trip. However, I have a question that I'm just not finding the answer for.

I keep reading about people getting 4OAK with a Kicker or trying to get the Kicker...

OK, probabaly dumb question of the day, but what exactly is the 'Kicker'? Can someone explain this to me?

    Thanks for any help. :peace:

One some games, most notably Double-Double-Bonus Poker, you get an extra payout with 4OAK with certain 5th cards (the 'kicker').

i.e. AAAAx is worth 800, but AAAA[2 or 3 or 4] is worth 2000. 2222x is worth 400 but 2222[A or 3 or 4] is worth 800. The specified kicker makes the hand worth more.

the reason they call it kicker is because kicker is a general poker term for the card that doesn't play in the hand (one pair, two pair, etc), but is used to break a tie.

Next time you're in a casino, take a look at a DDB or TDB pay table and it will make complete sense.

Oh and by the way, if you start playing these games you've just moved from pills to the needle.:wink2:

I don't play a lot of VP, but mostly DDB when I do. I love your analogy - very fitting!
