Hi guys... I need some help.
I have a friend who is currently at Boulder Station and asked me to e-mail her bus routing info from there to the Strip/downtown.

Can one of y'all help me?

    Thanks!

I've forgotten some of my Boulder Hwy geography, but she could walk to Sam's Town and get the free shuttle to the Cal, or to the Strip.

actually boulder station and sams town is probably a good mile and a half away from each other so not recommended to make the walk to sams town.

hopefully someone can give bus routings to help the OP out.

Thanks guys...it looks like the BHX stops at Boulder Station & will get her to downtown.
From there she can take the WAX or SDX to get to the strip.

(I hope i'm correct, as I just e-mailed that to her!!)

I'm assuming she is going to spend some time downtown, not just going there to get a bus to the Strip?

But anyway, the WAX picks up outside Binion's and the last dropoff before the airport is next to Tropicana.

Well, I hope she will. It's her first trip to Vegas & the Fremont casinos are a 'must-see' in my opinion.

I was trying to get back to her quickly, and that BHX route was the first one I spotted.

Is there a better bus to take her from Boulder Station to the strip?
I can always e-mail her again with those details.

I took the BHX from downtown to Sam's Town a couple weeks ago when I was changing hotels from Suncoast. (I'd normally take the WAX to the Binion's stop, kill a little time in the Fremont, and then catch the free shuttle to Sam's. I should have.) The X for express in BHX is only a letter; there's nothing express about it. Still, from Boulder, you're already half way, so it's probably the best way to go. BTW: I've walked from Boulder back to Sam's and wouldn't recommend it.

The west bound 203 has a stop on the east side of Boulder Station on Lamb. A 30 minute ride to the Fashion Show Mall. Runs about every 20 minutes.

I am curious? Why would you not recommend it?

I routinely walk a couple miles around the neighborhood where we live. It's peaceful, quiet, lots of trees, few cars, and pretty much a pleasant way to get in a little extra exercise – often after the gym. (I often take my happy hour drink, which is probably better than just sitting on my tail at home.) In contrast, walking from Boulder Station to Sam's is beside a busy highway, noisy, lots of exhaust fumes, anything but scenic, with more than a few intersections to contend with. As people are always saying about the Strip, everything seems further away than it really is. Just getting to Arizona Charlie's seemed to take forever, and of course, Sam's is further still. I never knew a 30 minute walk could take so long, and the warm weather definitely didn't enhance the experience. And while I didn't encounter many bums the afternoon I walked it, I definitely wouldn't do it at night.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "I wouldn't recommend it," just that walking wouldn't be my first choice to get between Boulder and Sam's.

Thanks for this one. It is a new route for me.

I would also not walk Boulder anymore than is necessary although that stretch from Eastside Cannery to Sam's Town seems fine.

Here is the schedule of Sam's Town free shuttles. This takes a half hour to get to downtown. And it is free.
    http://static.boydgaming.net/samstownlv10/media/downloads/Shuttle_Bus_Schedule_9-1-12.pdf

The BHX is slower, but it would take just 15 minutes to go by BHX to Sam's Town or Eastside Cannery

So, she would tour Sam's Town or Sam's Town and Eastside Cannery, get on the shuttle at Sam's Town and go downtown and then head back to the strip from there.

Why not email her the link to this thread rather than just an email of one route and let her play with what she might like to do.

If she wants to see Eastside Cannery have her ride to that point and then walk back to Sam's Town after that.

I guess I was unlucky, but when I took the BHX from BTC to Sam's Town, it took over 30 minutes and left BTC 10 minutes late! (It's listed as around 38 minutes in their schedule!) As I read on your blog, "… BHX is longer, with more stops and starts, and a pretty tough clientele as well." That certainly was the case when I rode it. It's good to have an alternate way between downtown and Sam's, but I'll be using the free shuttles from now on.

No, I think you have it right and you were not unlucky. That is to be expected. the BHX stops at every stop and so it takes a long while to get and from downtown.
Since the HDX schedule change there has not been a fast route along Boulder unless you want to go to Sunset Station or Fiesta Henderson. Although for someone starting at Boulder Station nothing has changed much as the HDX used to have the first stop at Sahara and would get to Sam's Town in 16 minutes. Now the first stop from downtown is Sunset for the HDX. It is hard to believe, but going downtown to Fiesta Henderson is just 30 minutes.
I'm thinking the woman could leave Boulder Station
and go to Eastside Cannery and then walk to Sam's Town and take the free shuttle from there to downtown or to the strip. Adding in a couple more visits for a newbie might be fun and not any more transportation time to get downtown because the free shuttle saves 15 minutes over the BHX and often saves time to the strip as well, especially if you want Harrah's area rather then Bellagio area. 203 is 40 mintues to Fashion Mall. Free shuttle is 40 from Sam's Town to Harrah's. Flamingo is more like 45 minutes, but is another option from Eastside Cannery. It stops right by the parking lot there. However, sometimes the 45 is more like 55.

Thanks for the information, I have been to Sam's, but never walked around other than to the 202 bus stop.
