If I want a room comped on the weekend at a property like MGM or Mirage, how many hours/day of $X BJ do I need to play?

Will 4 hours at $100/hand per day do it?

I certainly think $100/hand for 4 hours/day would get you OFFERS for free rooms at either place. Getting your room comp’d on the back end might be a little harder. I’d say it would be close, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Last I heard (from my host in late 2011), Mirage standard room comp was 4 hours at $125 per hand.

$100 / hand and 4 hours per day is insufficient for weekends. Ck with your host for requirements as they vary with room selection.

its funny that wagering 2 hands is enough for the room anyways.

Several years ago at Mandalay Bay a pit critter told me $50 minimum blackjack bet to be rated. That was before Mlife. That was not for a room comp, that was for the property to even start counting.

I think you are close at MGM or Mirage. Unless someone wants to correct me, it does not matter whether it is weekend or midweek. A room has a comp value.

At $125-$150 you should have no problem getting a room comp at checkout.

A host at the Mirage (Francis) had explained to me that we (table players) can be comped the following:

40% of your avg bet per hour, times the number of hours played.

They also have the ability to comp slightly more if they want...their call. If you are playing small, you may just have to play a lot more hours to earn comps to cover part or all of your stay.

You're close. They've recently raised the reqs but that used to be enough. They want $150 avg at MGM now. But a good host will do it anyway as the room comp costs them so little.

Crazy to think about how big of a difference there is between low edge table games and slots. Play $100/hand on BJ for 4 hours a day on a three day trip, and you have $480 in primary comps. Play 1.50/spin on a penny machine for 4 hours a day on a three day trip and you have 720 bucks available in primary comps.

You need a bankroll of about 5-6k min to be comfortable playing that level of BJ, you need a bankroll of about 1500-2000 to do the same on the slots.

Of course you are exposing less to the edge on BJ, but it's still pretty crazy. That's also the reason why you see such a big variance among people posting their comps on this board, and you see "low-roller" slot players that are getting as good or better offers than the mid-level table game players.

What is the requirement for Aria?

I've heard 60k TCs per day which is probably around 4 hours at $500/hand.

If that's accurate, that's ridiculous. I've never stayed at Aria, but from what I've seen and heard, it's still not on the level of Wynn, and you can get comped at Wynn with a lot less play than that.

Also if the 40% of your average bet per hour is accurate, that means that they're valuing a room comp at 800/night???????? That's absolutely insane.

I have no idea what Aria’s “official requirements” are. But I’ve stayed there a few times – in a standard room and a corner suite – comp’d (both from marketing offers and through a host). And I don’t average anywhere near $500/hand. I’m probably in the $200/hand neighborhood (though, I think I average about 25,000-45,000 TCs/day so I obviously play more than 4 hours/day).

It absolutely matters...Midweek rooms are cheaper than weekend rooms...

So it will require less theo to cover the cost of the comp

60k TCs comes out to $2000 theo...

    So you would need:

    2000 = 4 hours*70 hands/hour *1% HA *$X/hand...

So you would need to bet around $700 per hand...

I was thinking 100 hands per hour, but yep... that's the formula I used.

Can you imagine being comped 40% of your average bet?

I would move into the casino if that were the case.

If you assume 100 hands per hour and a 1% expected loss, then 40% of your theoretical is the same as 40% of the average bet, right?
