I saw a link to this blog in Bob Dancer's column westie posted. Never heard of it but since Dancer linked to it he must have some profile.

    http://markslasvegas.markanduss.com/table-game-comps-and-tiers/

He says MLife only gives 4% of your theo in comps, not 40%. That can't be possible. The 40% number may be high for a lot of people, but it would be pretty obvious if it was only 4%. I got more than that in express comps.

He also says after an hour of blackjack the pit boss told him his theo. Has anyone ever heard of a pit boss being able to tell you your THEO in real time like that? That would be some nice info to have if it was true. Its sketchy though because he says he played $25 BJ varying his bets and had a theo of $66. That theo sounds high to me from the numbers I've seen unless he was averaging closer to $100 per hand. Maybe even just $75. But why wouldn't he say that instead of saying he played $25 BJ varying his bets?

Thoughts? Is the guy an idiot or are we just woefully wrong about everything? :evillaugh

""About 1/4 of those comps go to your Express Comps account which you can see. The rest go into you Primary Comps balance. You need to go to a host or Mlife representative in order to access those. I’ve recently discovered that Mlife reps do not appreciate it when you mention Primary Comps, so you might just want to ask them if you have any additional comps available beyond your Express Comps. Hosts can also help with discretionary comps. This is really helpful if you lose a lot quickly or if your actual loss is a lot greater than the theoretical loss""

i can say this part is correct and just had a host comp me a big dinner after a loss without using express comps.ive done this at several mgm properties ,im a local so i dont use a room so all i get express comps and what ever else i want i go to the host on duty and the bring up my play and ask me where and how much you want.its very simple to do .rember worse thing that can happen is they say no

I don't know if I agree with "Mlife reps do not appreciate it when you mention Primary Comps", though. I've frequently had both mLife reps and other hotel staff use the term in conversation with me, and I never got the sense that it was some secret they were trying to hide from the average gambler.

i didnt mean the part about mentioning primary comps as i always mention it and they never blink ,i ment that there is extra comps besides express ,you just have to ask for them and alot of people dont know that.

I'm not motivated enough to really try to figure out the math, because this guy indeed sounds like an idiot, but maybe it's 4% of something? Obviously not theo, but maybe there's some way it makes sense, or at least a distant relative of sense?

Maybe he's playing 6:5 blackjack. Very possible, since does seem to be an idiot.

I ran across that guy's page some time ago.

He has a lot of outdated and/or wrong info, and he just doesn't have good math skills.

    so I just reread this.

that's actually not far off. I think it's actually 5% these days, but that's close. he's not saying 4% total, just in ECs. the rest are primary comps.

however, I either totally misread what he wrote before, or he edited the post in the last day.

He has edited it in the past 12 hours, perhaps he is reading this thread.

Rereading again, he also removed the nugget about the pit telling him his theo was $66 after playing one hour of $25 BJ. He also no longer states that it makes "no business sense" for a casino to comp back 40% of theo.

I bet he is reading this thread.

Yeah he completely edited it. Changed it to express comps and removed all those portions about the 40% number being unrealistic and the section on his BJ play.

Well kudos for him for correcting things but it would be proper protocol for him to note that it was a correction.

Ive been to LV a good 4 times a year for the last 5 years or so and have had my room "truly comped" every single trip by my hostess. Although my corporate offer is always like 3 nights in a deluxe room, she gives me 4 or 5 (however many im staying) in a suite and has never once touched my EC's. It pays to be loyal to a particular property.

I don't know about all of the above, as I haven't been very active on the board lately, so I am not up to date with all the threads discussing what you all feel the ratios have boiled down to, but I can share some input from last weekend that shows that the 40% of Theo is pretty valid towards overall comps, and that 1/4 of the theo goes into express comps.

So my theo last weekend was $14,000, as I didn't play that much, so my overall comp balance would have been about $5600 or so (40% of theo). My express comps went up by around $1200, which would be close to the 1/4 of overall theo earned (it was actually .21%). For the $5600 in comps, I got Mansion for 3 nights, golf at Shadow, couple $500 dinners, about $1000+ in spa, and a few other misc things as well as all other meals / drinks. My express comps weren't touched. I think all of this equates to at least $5600 in primary comps, if not more.

Fwiw, the $14000 theo generated about 400,000+ TC's, however that works out?

Also, BJ players get screwed on the theo as they do not factor in 1. playing alone, 2. speed of play, 3. hands per minute / hour - just overall time and average bet (which is another bone of contention as they are sitting there watching every hand, ask about what my average bet is, and then it still gets inputed wrong into the system, wtf!!)

Last I heard it was 35 - 36% goes to primary and 4-5% goes to ECs, but your data supports the numbers being closer to the previous 27% primary and 13% ECs...

the 400,000 TCs for $14k in theo supports the 30TC per $1 theo number that has been suggested...

Are you assuming this or was it confirmed? I've always wondered about it. Because this could make a huge difference in terms of actual theo vs. recorded theo. And it seems like such an easy thing for the computer to incorporate since the system will already know how many players were at the table.

The TCs work out but the EC number seems high. I'd have thought you'd get 7% (5% + 2% NOIR bonus) which is $980. But you got around 8.5% which is more like 6% plus the 40% NOIR bonus. Nice.

I confirmed that we get screwed. I asked specifically if these factors are taken into account, and the answer was NO.
