    My Trip Report

    Okay. So I was in Reno with the not yet wife.

    We used to go to Reno for the day. Just for the heck of it. We were about 3 hrs away.

    This Saturday we decided to go for it. We drove out to Reno for the day.

    We definitely weren't planning on spending the night.

    Well I decided to try out this new game called "let it ride". I had actually played it maybe once before and lost about $50 bucks.

    Anyways, I decided to play again. I sat down and bought in for maybe $40 on a $3 table. Out come the cards. One A, two A, three A just like that.

    Well hell, here we go I'll just let it ride of course.

    Sure enough the dealer pulls over another A. I about shit my pants!!!

    Remember I'm a total noob. Little did I know if I didn't sit down the lady next to me would have got my hand. (since then I feel real bad). But in the moment I was screaming and hollering. It was a $3 table and I made about $700 I think.

    I feel bad like I should have given the lady some chips, but at the time I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

    In fact, the husband fo the lady actually pushed me to tip the dealer. Otherwise I probably would have just pleaded ignorance.

    Anyways, I cashed out, felt bad, but still went on my way.

    If it ever happens again, I'm sure to help out the neighbor...

    Not saying helping out the neighbor is a bad thing, but do you think if you sat to her right and she got a better hand because you sat down that she would of paid you anything? Don't feel bad, it is gambling and no one knows what will happen next.

    I was playing three card poker one time and I was losing. I lost my whole stack and bought back in but told the dealer to just deal me out a hand. Only one other guy to my right. He got dealt some crap hand like J 10 4 and the dealer, who got my hand, go 10 10 10. I wasn't pissed, I just shrugged it off and said I should of played, at least the guy got paid out on the 4th ten because he had the 6 card bonus bet out there for $5.

    And on taking other peoples hands. My feeling is that they had the chance to get it themselves. The seat was open, no reason someone couldn't have moved to their right to lock in which number hand they get.

    Would I have tipped them something? Honestly no idea. It is kindof an in the moment thing.



    You sat down at a table, took money from a casino, left when you were up. No reason to think you did anything wrong. :)

    Let it ride has been dealt in Reno since the early 90s, it is not a new game.

    And no, you didn't take the other player's hand. There is absolutely no reason for you to feel bad or share your winnings. Congrats.

    No need to feel bad: if you hadn't played she wouldn't have gotten your hand, the four aces.

    The way the cards are dealt if you didn't sit down to play all the hands would have come out differently.

    Like if you just numbered the cards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and they were in that order in the deck and dealt them out to one player and the dealer then the player would have cards: 1, 3 and 5 and the dealer's cards would be 2 and 4.
    But since you sat down, as a third player, the dealing of the same preset deck (going 1 to 10 in order, as above) would be:
    Player 1: 1, 4, 7
    Player 2: 2, 5, 8
    Dealer: 3, 6

    So if the aces are cards 2, 5, 6 and 8 in the deck then the woman would have been dealt only one ace and the dealer would have had one ace.

    Auggie makes a really good point, I didn't know that is how the cards were dealt for this game. 3 card poker is all three dealt to each player one player at a time.

    Most LIR I've played is machine dealt, all three cards to the first player, then all three to the next, etc. There are two possible variations to this scenario. If you had not sat down, the lady would have had trip Aces, but not the 4th, since the dealer's cards would have been different. If you had sat in a seat to her left, she would have had trip Aces and the quad, since the dealer's cards would have been the same as with your deal. But years ago in Pahrumph, I played LIR where the cards were hand dealt, first card to player one, second card to player two, etc. That would have completely changed the deal.

    Congratulations! I've been playing LIR in casinos for years and have yet to hit 4 of a kind. But I still give it a try on nearly every casino visit. Some day. . . .

    OK, then this would pretty much cover it.

    I've only played LIR at my local casino, not in Vegas, and here its dealt one card to each player and then the dealer and then one card to each player and then the dealer and then finally the players get their last card.

    But yeah, if it is three to each player and then the dealer gets their cards last it still would have been a nice win for the lady, but she would have only gotten three of a kind, not four of a kind.

    Actually, I didn't make it too clear in my post, but this happened some time ago, probably mid-90s...I've just been carrying around the guilt since then :)

    Wow. I never realized it. Thank you both for pointing that out...you are 100% correct that she wouldn't have had a 4 OAK in any scenario. I feel a lot better now.

    Also thanks for the other posts - it makes me feel better now and I can move on and not feel guilty anymore!

    I still continue to try too...I hope for a repeat eventually...

    Only Cal-Neva has $3 LIR, nowhere else (in any Casino I've EVER been to)
    Funny story: The first time I went into Cal-Neva was BECAUSE of the $3 LIR table (my cousin said they had it so cheap; LIR was all the rage when it was brand new)

    NEVER feel guilty that you "STOLE" someone's hand!!!!

    You are in a casino and you are gambling, these things happen all the time every hour of every day.

    I detest it when someone gripes about someone "stealing" their hand or their jackpot. If we hit a good hand on the first VP play or slot pull, should we find the last person who played on that machine and give them some reward? If people don't want anyone to "steal" their hand, then sit at first base or play high enough money for the casino to close the table to other players.

    As far as tipping the dealer on a great hand, you should throw the dealer some chips, the amount/percentage is up to you.

    Golden Gate in Downtown LV used to have either $2 or $3 LIR during the day. This was at least 10 years ago but I was surprised to see that low of a minimum on one table there during the day.
